    The Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Minister of State, Mariya Mahmoud, has joined millions of Nigerians to celebrate the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, as he clocks 57 years.

    Mahmoud in her social media handles described the minister as a visionary leader who is committed to service delivery.

    She emphasised that as the minister marks another year of impactful existence, God will continue to bless him with wisdom, strength, and good health to continue his noble service to the nation.

    Minister vows to create enabling environment for Women

    The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) on Wednesday, pledged its commitment to create an enabling environment for women entrepreneurs to excel at all levels.

    Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, Mariya Mahmoud gave the assurance at the first major African Economy, Women Entrepreneurship, and Finance Confidence, organized by Impact HER and supported by the US Department of Commerce, the African Union, and FCT Administration in Abuja.

    She revealed that the Administration through targeted programs and partnerships had prioritized access to skills training, and mentorship platforms for women.

    Mahmoud said the current FCTA leadership is collaborating with stakeholders to provide financial assistance for businesses that embrace sustainability in renewable energy, waste management, eco-agriculture, or environmentally conscious urban development.

    She stated the conference with the theme, “Igniting Africa’s Green Revolution: Equipping Women Entrepreneurs, as Catalyst for Sustainable Growth and Eco-Financing Solutions” embodies the Administration’s shared vision of empowering women entrepreneurs.

    According to her, empowerment will lead the charge towards sustainable economic development while addressing the urgent environmental challenges.

    She said the two-day conference was a call to action and a reminder of the immense potential for green investment opportunities within the Federal Capital Territory.

    According to a statement issued by an Assistant Director of Information (office of the Minister of State FCT, Freda Aideyan, the minister said: “This conference embodies our shared vision of empowering women entrepreneurs to lead the charge towards sustainable economic development while addressing the urgent environmental challenges of our time.

    “We are committed to creating an enabling environment for women entrepreneurs, especially those in eco-friendly business.

    “Women are the backbone of Africa’s informal economy. Still, we must go beyond recognition and equip them with the tools, resources, and opportunities to lead in the formal and green economies”.

    In her remarks, the founder of ImpactHER Ms. Efe Ukala commended the stakeholders for their collaboration in addressing the challenges through the Africa’s Green Conference.

    She said: “We commence at a critical juncture, we’re on the path of industrialization and environmental stewardship, presenting both challenges and offering better opportunities for our countries in Africa.

    “Let’s plant the seeds of prosperity and sustainability. Let’s grow them in the same soil we are protecting our planets, fuels our profits, so together, we will have the best future that is both rich and sustainable”.

    Woman entrepreneurs catalysts for sustainable development – Minister 

    Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Minister of State, Mariya Mahmoud, has observed that women are not just vital contributors to national economy, but also catalysts for innovation, social change, and sustainable development.

    The minister who was the Special Guest of Honour at the Abuja Business and Investment Summit on Friday also called on stakeholders to support women entrepreneurs.

    Speaking on the importance of women entrepreneurship, Mahmoud asserted that businesses led by women tend to be more socially responsible and have profound impact on their communities.

    Mahmoud highlighted some of the significant barriers faced by women to entrepreneurship despite their potentials.

    “From limited access to financing and mentorship, to social and cultural constraints. The challenges are numerous.

    “However, it is time we recognize that empowering women entrepreneurs is not just a matter of equity; it is an economic imperative,” Mahmoud emphasised.

    While expressing gratitude that women are increasingly taking on leadership roles in business, she revealed that the World Bank estimates, women own about 41 per cent of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the country.

    According to her: “Most women are breaking barriers, creating jobs, and driving economic growth. They are in technology, agriculture, manufacturing, and services—proving that their contributions are as diverse as they are impactful”.

    The minister tasked the Abuja Investment Company Limited to intensify efforts in establishing platforms that connect emerging women entrepreneurs with experienced mentors that could provide the guidance and support necessary for success.

    Amb. Maureen Tamuno, the Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Abuja Investments Company Limited, in her opening remarks stressed that it is the responsibility, as leaders and changemakers, to dismantle barriers faced by women and create pathways for sustainable growth for women entrepreneurs.

    Tamuno, expressed satisfaction that the 2-day summit has set the stage for actionable strategies that promote gender equity, drive inclusive growth, and foster a business environment where both men and women can succeed.

    She called for collaboration and partnership as key to unlocking new opportunities and creating an investment landscape that embraces innovation, nurtures entrepreneurship, and delivers lasting impact for the communities.

    The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, has charged the management of Nigeria Television Authority, Channel 5, to explore new opportunities for collaboration, especially in the areas of security and flooding.

    The minister gave this charge when the management staff of the station paid her a courtesy visit to her office.

    She noted that residents in hard-to-reach communities should be well informed about the impact of flooding and security challenges in recent times.

    Mahmoud, expressed appreciation for the robust relationship the administration has enjoyed with the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA), noting that the station has continued to provide quality information in the media landscape.

    According to her: “First, I want to express our sincere appreciation for the enduring relationship we have enjoyed with the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA), the largest network in Africa.

    “To state the obvious, the NTA has continued to provide quality information in the media landscape and we are truly grateful for your service to our residents at the grassroots.

    “Let me assure you that as we look towards the future, we are keen to further strengthen our relationship and explore new opportunities for collaboration, especially in the areas of security and flooding”.

    The minister, in a statement issued on Wednesday by her Special Assistant, Media, Austine Elemue, expressed hope that significant potential would enhance the joint efforts and achieve even greater outcomes in areas of security and flooding.

    Earlier in his remarks, the General Manager of NTA Channel 5, Mr. Paul Atte, noted that the station had in the past enjoyed a fruitful relationship with the FCT Administration, just as he appealed for stronger collaboration.

    He pledged that despite the current challenges facing the station, the NTA Channel 5 will still uphold its standard as a “unity station.”

    Minister pledges to prioritise FCT staff’s welfare

    As the Federation Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) celebrates 33 retired management staff, the FCT minister of state, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, has emphasised the administration’s commitment to ensuring that the welfare of all staff is topmost.

    The minister, who made this commitment at the grand reception in honour of the retired management staff of the administration, also stated that the establishment of the FCT Civil Service Commission was one of the promises fulfilled.

    Mahmoud, who was represented by her senior special assistant on administration and strategy, Dr. Abdullahi Isah Kauramata, noted that the establishment of the commission has restored the lost hope among career civil servants in the FCT Administration.

    She said: “I think that hope has been given to the civil servants; that hope of realizing your ultimate desire; that hope of reaching the peak of civil service career, has been granted today by the present administration.

    “I must at least commend the effort of His Excellency, Barrister Nyesom Wike, with my support as Minister of State, we are able to realize this goal and this is made possible by the commitment of the present administration under the able leadership of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

    “The ongoing activity of award and recognition is one of those steps we will continue to take to appreciate you. Because words alone cannot appreciate the contributions you have made. What we need to do is to give you more hope by engaging you where necessary”.

    While congratulating them for their meritorious services in office, Mahmoud, however, tasked them with a healthy lifestyle.

    According to a statement issued by her Special Assistant Media, Austine Elemue, the minister said: “First, is to appreciate you for the invaluable contributions you made to the FCT Administration. Our achievements wouldn’t have been possible without your contributions.  You are part of the foundation that transformed the FCT today.

    “Secondly, look after yourself after the service. I mean healthy living so that you can see many more years ahead; so that your families that have now welcomed you back home will spend more quality time with you. And this can be achieved through a healthy lifestyle, a healthy diet, among others”.

    In his address, the FCT Head of Service, Mr. Samuel Attang, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary Education Secretariat, Mr. Prospect Ibe, observed that the careers of the retirees have been marked by diligence, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to the principles of public service.

    He, however, commended the support and vision of the Minister of FCT, Barrister Nyesom Wike, and Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, for fostering a culture of excellence and dedication within the ranks.

    Attang described the retirees as the backbone of the administration, just as he assured them that their hard work would not go unnoticed.

    He said: “The impact of your work will be felt for years to come. The policies you helped craft, the projects you oversaw, and the initiatives you championed have all contributed to the growth and development of the FCT.”

    Earlier in her remarks, the Acting Director of Reform Coordination and Service Improvements, Dr. Jumai Ahmadu, stated that the event offers an opportunity for the administration to communicate its vision, goals, and priorities to both outgoing and remaining staff members.

    She further said that it allows for reflection on past accomplishments and sets the tone for future endeavours.

    “By taking the time to celebrate the achievements of their departing colleagues, they demonstrate that they value and respect their staff members. This can have a positive impact on employee satisfaction, retention, and overall organizational performance,” she affirmed.

    The high point of the event was the presentation of assorted gift items to the retirees.

    Minister drums support for Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Initiative

    Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister of State, Mariya Mahmoud, has called on women leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to come up with ideas that would support the Renewed Hope Initiative of the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu to succeed.

    The minister, who made this call when women leaders of the APC paid her a sympathy visit in her office, also tasked them to work together for the interest of all Nigerians.

    Mahmoud harps on the need to bring women closer, not only when elections are around the corner, but to build an inclusive society.

    She, however, commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for his style of leadership, stressing that the government is on the right track towards building an inclusive society.

    According to her: “for us to achieve the issue of inclusion, we have to work together. And that is even the logo of our great party, the broom tied together.

    “We have to synergize for us to achieve. We have to be working together with synergy. We need to know what is happening in Taraba, we need to know what is happening in Katsina, we need to know what is happening in Imo.

    “And more importantly we need to know how we can assist our mother, the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. What are her methods of getting closer to our women so that we apply the same in Kano, we apply same in Katsina and other states of the federation for us to achieve?

    “We have to bring these women closer. Not when elections are around the corner. So we need to be close because we need to advise the First Ladies of our states. We have to really work harder. We have to brainstorm and come up with practical ideas”.

    While speaking on the recent infrastructural developments in the FCT, Mahmoud assured her guests that before the end of the tenure, residents of the territory would witness several changes in terms of infrastructure, agriculture, people’s welfare, education and health sector.

    She said:  “And I want to assure you that this is just the beginning. Before the end of the tenure, you will see several changes in terms of infrastructures, in terms of agriculture, in terms of our people’s welfare, and then also the education and health sector at large”.

    According to a statement issued on Monday by the Special Assistant, Media, Austin Elemue, the leader of the delegation and National Deputy Women Leader of the APC, Hajia Zainab Ibrahim, commended the FCT Minister of State for her teamwork, noting that the recent changes in the nation’s capital were as a result of committed teamwork.

    While expressing sympathy over the fire incident that gutted the minister’s residence two weeks ago, she, however, pledged the commitment of APC women to support the programmes and policies of the present administration

    She said: “The projects we are seeing in recent times in our capital city are worth commendation. We are very happy that both of you are working together for the upliftment of FCT.

    “We sincerely hope that these infrastructural developments are cascaded to the satellite towns so that our people in the rural areas can feel the impact of the government.”

    Present at the occasion were the Senior Special Assistant on Administration and Strategy to FCT Minister of State, Dr. Abdullahi Isah Kauramata, and State Women Leaders of the All Progressives Congress across the federation.
