Meghan Markle Sells Princess Diana’s Iconic ‘Revenge Dress’

Sources close to the Sussexes confirm that the off-the-shoulder black silk dress, designed by Christina Stambolian and made famous by Princess Diana in 1994, quietly changed hands earlier this month. The new owner is Ukrainian First Lady Olena Zelenska. The dress gained notoriety when Diana wore it to a Vanity Fair event at the Serpentine Gallery on the very night Prince Charles confessed to infidelity in a television interview. It quickly became a global symbol of empowerment, independence, and grace under pressure.

The Duchess of Sussex had been in possession of the dress since shortly after her marriage to Prince Harry, gifted privately by a donor from Scotland who had acquired it at Diana’s famed 1997 charity auction. Markle, who has often paid subtle homage to Diana through fashion and causes, is said to have found the timing right to pass it on. The sale price is believed to be $2.9 million. A replica of the dress, which Christina Stambolian made in 2010, is kept in the Museum of Style Icons, in Newbridge, County Kildare, Ireland.

  • Breaking: Duchess of Sussex gives birth to baby boy

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry on Monday welcomed their first child, with Buckingham Palace announcing that the Duchess of Sussex gave birth to a son at 5:26am, local time.

Baby Sussex was born weighing seven pounds and three ounces.

Mother and child are reported to be doing well.

The Duke and Duchess are likely to announce the baby’s title in a few days, when the name will also be announced.

Unless the Queen grants a special Letters Patent, it is highly unlikely the baby will receive a Royal title like the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s children.

Baby Sussex is seventh in line to the throne behind dad Prince Harry, Prince Louis, Princess Charlotte, Prince George, Prince William and Prince Charles.

Meghan’s last engagement ahead of the birth was on March 19, when she and Harry paid their respects to the victims of the Christchurch shootings at New Zealand House in London.

Ahead of the birth, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex released a rare public statement in which they said they would keep the news of their first baby’s arrival into the world private.

Kensington Palace officials said in a statement that Harry and Meghan “look forward” to sharing the news of their baby’s birth once they had a chance to celebrate as a new family.

“Their Royal Highnesses have taken a personal decision to keep the plans around the arrival of their baby private,” the statement said.

“The Duke and Duchess look forward to sharing the exciting news with everyone once they have had an opportunity to celebrate privately as a new family.”

  • Harry, Meghan rewrite royal rule

Since announcing their engagement in November 2017 and their eventual wedding on May 19, 2018 at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle in the United Kingdom, both Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle have defied all the rules of royal family.

The marriage between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle is definitely going to change so many things about the British royal family.

Nobody would have thought that Prince Harry would settle for a woman with not only a humble background but an artist with African-American and Dutch-Irish descent. It was the first time a woman of mixed race would be coming into the British Royal family.

The love birds first met in Toronto, Canada during the royal’s visit to promote the Invictus Games.

Meghan and Harry met through a mutual friend, who set them up on a blind date in London. In an interview with the BBC’s Mishal Husain, the pair admitted they didn’t know much about each other until they met.

“I was beautifully surprised when I walked into that room and saw her… I thought, I am really going to have to up my game here and make sure I’ve got a good chat,” said the prince.

My British have expressed concern that Markle had been married before, a far depar ture from royal tradition.

Meghan was married to LA production company manager Trevor Engleson, tying the knot in a Jamaican beach wedding in September 2011, after more than seven years of dating. However, just short of two years later, it was all over – the pair were reported to have separated in August 2013.

As expected, the marriage has been throwing series of issues. Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton, Prince Harry’s brother, have been rumoured to have been involved in a ‘ghastly row’

With the age difference of four years, how Harry will be able to cope with Meg is a subject of conjecture.

How two of them would be able to cope because of differential background is what ponders the mind of many.

Meghan, while realising this, had responded in an interview that: “While my mixed heritage may have created a grey area surrounding my self-identification, keeping me with a foot on both sides of the fence, I have come to embrace that.”

In fulfilling British royal expectations, in January 2018, Meghan was reported to have deleted her remaining social media accounts, including Instagram and Twitter, as per royal protocol. However, she joins Prince William, Kate Middleton and Prince Harry on the Kensington Palace social media accounts, which include Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

Many have argued that there should be no cause for concern as Harry was never a saint. A publication has described Prince Harry as a ‘royal renegade’.

According to the magazine, at 17, Harry was taken to a rehab centre after he admitted he had smoked marijuana and illegally drank alcoholic beverages. When he was 27, his naked pictures was published while playing strip billiards in a Las Vegas hotel suite.

Meghan has also broken several royal rules. She was accused of painting her nails in burgundy.

According to OK! magazine, there is a rule in place stating that coloured nail polish does not meet royal standards and is considered “vulgar.”

Meghan has not forgotten her humble background. She closes her own door, which is against the royal rule. According to a report, when Meghan arrived at London’s Royal Academy for her first solo engagement as Duchess of Sussex, she chose to open the door of the car herself; an act which is against royal rule.

As a member of the royal family, Meghan is not expected to have personal opinion and even if she does, she ought to make it private. Meghan is said to have an opinion about abortion

Meghan also wears a sleeveless dress to her first Trooping the Colour. On her Buckingham balcony debut on June 9 in celebration of Queen Elizabeth’s birthday, many British were shocked to see her in off-the-shoulder silhouette of her pale pink, “fashion tradition usually dictates that Royal women do not wear off-shoulder or other more revealing styles.”

Also, Meghan’s coat of arms does not include her family name.

Traditionally, royal men don’t sport wedding bands after they marry. Reports said Harry’s grandfather, father and brother have all opted to follow this tradition by not wearing a ring after they wed their respective wives. However, Markle and Harry have chosen to break this tradition, exchanging rings in the ceremony that they will continue to wear. This signifies equality in the marriage and is a modern step for the monarchy.

Like an hippy, Meghan wore a crossbody bag. The princess-to-be arrived at Edinburgh Castle on February 13, 2018 “wearing an appropriately chic and seemingly inoffensive outfit: Burberry coat, Veronica Beard pants, Birks rings and a Strathberry bag.

But it’s not what Markle was wearing that broke protocol, per se, it was how she was wearing it,” a British magazine observed.

Whether the duo will be able to sustain the marriage, time will tell.

The BBC reports that some 100,000 people are expected in Windsor, west of London, for the historic moment and street parties and afternoon teas are being held around the kingdom.

The service begins at noon (1100 GMT) in St George’s Chapel with Harry’s 92-year-old grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, in attendance, alongside celebrities including Markle’s former co-stars from the hit U.S television drama series “Suits.”

The ceremony will be a traditional Church of England affair but with unusual twists including a gospel choir singing “Stand By Me” and a lively U.S pastor delivering the address.

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, who will marry the couple, said they were “very sensible” and “self-possessed.”

Prince Harry and fiancee Meghan get wedding music tips

Britain’s Prince Harry and his U.S. fiancee Meghan Markle were given some street-level tips for their wedding music as they visited a pioneering radio station in south London.

Harry, fifth-in-line to the throne, and actress Markle, best known for the TV legal drama “Suits”, announced their engagement in November, with the wedding set for May at Queen Elizabeth’s Windsor Castle home to the west of London.

On their second official royal outing together on Tuesday, the couple were greeted by large crowds when they visited the Reprezent radio station in Brixton which was set up in 2008 as part of a response to a rise in knife crime among young people.

The station trains hundreds of young people each year in media and employment skills. It offers training in topics ranging from audio and radio production and editing to communication skills and work experience.

It also runs programs supporting youngsters with specific issues like mental health challenges, a cause dear to Harry’s heart.
Presenter Gloria Beyi, 17, said the couple showed a keen interest in the station’s music.

”The main thing I observed is they go quite well together,“ she told Reuters. ”This is genuine – this is real stuff. Having both of them in one room trying to talk to you and having interest in the station, how it works, the relationship between everyone, it’s just so amazing.”

Asked about possible wedding music recommendations, she said: “A little bit of house, a little bit of hip-hop, cos Harry did say that he is interested in hip-hop and house.

“So, that mixed together at a wedding? Then you’re pretty good. Those two genres if they’re there, you’re pretty sorted for your wedding.”

Harry, 33, and Markle, 36, will marry at Windsor’s St George’s Chapel on May 19.
