Ozil ruled out of Bayern Munich clash

Arsenal will be without German playmaker Mesut Ozil when they bid to turn a 5-1 deficit around against Bayern Munich on Tuesday night.

The Gunners must score at least four goals against the German champions if they are to have any chance of progressing in the Champions League, following their humbling during the first leg in Bavaria, but will have to do so without Ozil.

The midfielder missed Saturday’s 3-1 loss at Liverpool through illness but manager Arsene Wenger has now revealed he will not be ready in time to face Bayern.

‘Ozil is not in the squad, he only had one session and isn’t physically ready to be in the squad,’ Wenger said during his pre-match press conference.

The Gunners boss also insisted he has yet to decide whether to restore Alexis Sanchez to the starting line-up, after he was benched for the Anfield loss amid reports of a training ground bust-up – which Wenger has since denied.

Regardless of the team he picks, the Frenchman is keen for his players to make a fast start and try and worry their German opposition.

‘That’s the ideal situation but we want to give ourselves a chance by attacking and scoring goals,’ he said. ‘But no matter what happens it’s about our honour and pride to speak for 90 minutes.

Defender Per Mertesacker wants to see a response from his players when they take on Bayern as they bid to win back the support of their fans.

‘We have shown we are not up for a fight and that’s what I want to see tomorrow. We need to come around. Against Liverpool we had a real chance to push it and show we are a real unit.

‘It’s hard for the manager to select but he does it with his best knowledge and we trust him.

‘We need to make the first step to get the fans on board again. We need our fans. We’ve done something wrong in the last few games and we have to learn from our mistakes quickly.’

Mesut Ozil looks to be thoroughly enjoying the extended break handed to him by Arsene Wenger.

The Arsenal midfielder was permitted extra time off after enduring a poor run of form for the Gunners and he has taken the opportunity to fly to Turkey.

Ozil, who is of Turkish descent, was photographed leaving a restaurant alongside Amine Gulse, a former winner of the Miss Turkey beauty pageant in 2014.

Gulse is a 23-year-old Swedish-born model who has also starred in a Turkish television series.

The pair, who have confirmed they are just friends, were also spotted together last week dining out at Novikov back in central London.

Ozil had posted a picture of himself on a plane on his official Snapchat account before his side’s 2-0 win over Sutton in the FA Cup on Monday after earlier training at London Colney.

The midfielder has been granted the extra rest with Arsenal’s next game not until 4 March when they face Liverpool.

The Gunners were due to face Southampton this weekend but the Saints are in EFL Cup Final action against Manchester United on Sunday.

German World Cup Winner Mesut Ozil has been taken to court by his own FATHER, Mustafa Ozil after the 26 year old sacked him as managing director of marketing company Ozil Marketing GmbH last year.

Mustafa Ozil, who played an integral part in brokering his son’s £42.5m move from Real Madrid to Arsenal last summer, filed a complaint for a loss of earnings totalling €630,000 (£493,000).

German newspaper Bild report the ‘sad story’ as being a situation where a family has been pulled apart over financial issues involving a star’s contract.

Ozil’s company responded with a counter claim, demanding repayment of a loan worth in the region of one million euros and the return of a company car from Ozil senior.

But after initially refusing to pay out, Gunners star Ozil has reached a settlement with his dad although he won’t be involved in the company and has been replaced by Mesut’s brother Mutlu.

It’s all in a day, or months work for Ozil though who is said to be earning a figure in the region of £130,000-a-week at Emirates Stadium.

A not-entirely-dissimilar situation played out when Lewis Hamilton took the momentous decision to split with his father Anthony as his manager at the start of 2010.

The pair reportedly did not speak for months after their separation, but finally Lewis was able to rediscover a normal father-son relationship with an emotional handshake in Singapore earlier this year.
