  • Nigerians saxophone player need to improve – OLUJAZZ

    A professional saxophone player, Olu Alabi popularly called Olu Jazz has said some Nigerians saxophone player needs to up their game as most saxophone players in Nigeria are not playing the right way and needs to improve.

    Olu Jazz made the call during his mentorship session for young Nigerians saxophone players held for beginners and intermediate saxophone players recently in Lagos.

    The training according to OLUJAZZ is geared towards helping young and aspiring people become better saxophone players.

    OLUJAZZ in interview said he got inspired to organize the training after the noticing that a lot of Sax players in Nigeria need improvement.

    “I started playing sax in the 90’s. It wasn’t all rosy for me though as I had to quit school after I couldn’t afford money for my tuition fee. There was a time I didn’t have a personal saxophone for 3years after learning, but i thank God that everything is going as planned now and I have I spent two years training on saxophone in America.”

    “I decided to oganise this training after noticing that most saxophone players in the country needs upgrade on their sax skills and it also a form giving back to the society and it was why the lecture was organised for free to young sax players. I see this as an alternative to provide job to young once, just like i also make my living through this instrument.”

    On how he got the name Olu talkative, Olujazz said the name became a household name after ace comedian, Kofi, said he talked too much on the sax.

    Also, Issac Gerrad a singer and song writer said he has been playing the saxophone for the last nine years.

    He said, “I have been a professional R&B singer for the last 10years. I play drums and this training is opportunity for the younger generation.”

    “I have worked with Falz, Tiwa Savage, MI, Sound Sultan and i believe music itself is a work and if you keep on working hard, at the end of the day you will get there”.

    A student of Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta (FUNAB) participant at the training, Boluwatife Ojo said the organizer; OluJazz has been a very good mentor to him.

    According to, “I have been playing this instrument for past four years now and what has really helped me is meeting sax players like with Yemi sax, Yori Omole, and other professional saxophone.

    A saxophone engineer in interview The Nation, Akintoye oluwaseun said young saxophone players need to learn from professionals’ sax players.

    “I am a sax repairer and I have worked on all types of saxophone. I also play saxophone, though for fun as I prefer repairing. I have been working on saxophone for the last sixteen years.”

    “I learnt this work from Y.S Akinbosun who once worked with Fela Anikulapo Kuti. I know every single part of this instrument. I know fault of  the sax I already know the faulty parts, once I have my tools am good to go no matter the problem of the saxophone I’ll fix it.”

    “I have worked with Yemi sax, Yori Omole, Olu Jazz, Segun Atoyebi, Lagbaja, almost all popular professional saxophonists in Nigeria.” Akintoye said.

    Oluwaseun further advice young saxophone player to learn from professionals, keep rehearsing and be committed.

     

  • How MI closed Legend show in Abuja

    THE just concluded Abuja edition of The Real Deal Experience, which marked the finale of this year’s shows had many talking about the A-game brought by Nigerian rapper, Jude Ibaga, aka MI, in closing the show.

    Earlier in the year, the show held in Enugu in February and was headlined by the songster Harry Song. In Aba, fans were served thrilling performances by Nigga Raw of the Obodo fame for Easter in April, and then the Obiligbo Brothers thrilled Onitsha and Port Harcourt fans in May and June. Next, it rode the train to Lagos in August, serving fans the double excitement of street pop sensations, Mr. Real and Slimcase. Next, it was headed to Jos in September with MI Abaga.

    On October, 27 fans were at the Apo Resettlement Park Abuja for another leg of the show, as headlined by MI Abaga.

    Mr. Incredible, as MI is also called, was in his A-game as he got a responsive Abuja crowd cheering to the performances of many of his songs, from the throwback ones to those from his latest album, Yxng Dxnzl. The lyrical King, who himself had a great time with the fans, expressed his gratitude to Legend Extra Stout for once again bringing him face to face with his fans. He pointed that every chance to connect with his fans is one he doesn’t take for granted, let alone when it is facilitated by a brand like Legend Extra Stout.  While speaking of his fans, he made sure to add with a smile, “There’s no Mister Incredible without them”.

    The show was hosted by comedian, De Don and Big Brother Naija’s Ifu Ennada who got a lot of fans reminiscent of her wit, slangs and mannerisms on the Big Brother show. Also featured were comedy and musical acts from all over Abuja, and with all the dancing and laughing, there was not a single dull moment.

    During the Taste, Tell and Win game, lots of fans showed their long lasting loyalty to the Legend Extra Stout brand and were rewarded with all kinds of prizes ranging from electronic gadgets to crates of their favorite beer.

    The brand wanted to give a fitting finale to this year’s run of The Real Deal Experience and ended up doing just that.

  • MI thrills Jos residents at Real Deal Experience

    The tin-city of Jos came alive last weekend as Legend Extra Stout hosted thousands of fans courtesy of its flagship consumer engagement platform, the Real Deal Experience. Thousands of fans turned up for the exciting show which held at The Polo Field.

    Headlining the show was popular rap-star M.I, who delivered a thrilling performance. From the moment he mounted the stage, a deafening applause greeted him and grew louder as he grabbed the mic and sang from his popular hits. M.I, known for his energetic stage performance left the crowd asking for more. Most of them did not want his session to end.

    With the show being hosted by Ifu Ennada and comedian DeDon, the audience did not have a boring moment throughout the night.

    And in keeping with its traditional legendary taste, a ‘tell and win’ competition was held. The competition is a blind taste test in which participants were made to tell the difference between the taste of Legend Extra Stout and other stout brands. Lucky winners of the competition went home with prizes.

    The Real Deal Experience is known for its intense musical performances, hilarious stand-up comedy, funny and poetic eulogies. And prior to the show, the brand’s Portfolio Manager, Mainstreet Lager, and Stout brands, Emmanuel Agu, assured that the show was raising the bars with the Jos edition.

  • Harrysong, MI, others champion zero maltreatment for widows

    Some Nigerian artistes led by Felix King of the 90s music group, Fellyx & Mozzyx, have urged the United Nations (UN) to declare June 23 Zero Maltreatment Day for widows.

    They made the call last Saturday at Moremi Hall, University of Lagos, Akoka, Lagos State, against the backdrop of culture-backed inhuman practices widows are known to suffer in this part of the world.

    King, who is the founder of the Felix King Foundation, was joined by pop star Harrison Tare Okiri, aka Harrysong, rapper MI Abaga, internet sensation, Charles Okocha aka Igwe Tupac and comedian Bayegun Oluwatoyin, popularly known as Woli Arole.

    The event also witnessed the simultaneous flag-off of the ‘Widows Rights Movement’ campaign by the Felix King Foundation in Nigeria, Ghana, the US, Canada and the UK.

    King described the movement as an international campaign for the abolishment of widows’ maltreatment, while advocating for a UN declaration of June 23 as a ‘Zero Maltreatment Day’ for widows in countries with traditional societies where women suffer human rights violations, with membership spread across the world.

    “The ultimate goal of the day is to develop resources and policy to empower widows and allow them to have access to education, work, healthcare and lives free of violence and abuse, while enables them to create a life for themselves and their children following the death of their husband and ending a cycle of poverty and abuse,” he said.

    Also speaking, Harrysong who performed at the event said widows’ maltreatment in Nigeria and Africa at large should be outlawed.

    Igwe Tupac also lent his voice to the campaign, condemning the practice which he describes as ‘unnecessary’.

    Aside performances from Harrysong, Wole Arole, Igwe Tupac and MI, some University of Lagos undergraduates performed a drama to demonstrate the ills of widows’ maltreatment in the country.

    Ororo Pattaya directed a short 60 second film with voiceover by M.I Abaga which had been aired in both Nigeria and international media.

     

  • MI, Simi celebrate Headies wins

    The 12th edition of the annual Headies Awards held sway last Saturday at the Eko Convention Centre, Victoria Island Lagos springing surprises on music enthusiasts.

    A night of music, fun and laughs, the event was graced with performances by comic and music acts including the likes of Bovi, Seyi Shay and a host of others.

    Leading the pack of winners with four awards was none other than Davido. He won the Artist of the Year, Song of the year and two other categories. Following him closely was Simi who bagged three awards in the ‘Best R&B Single’, ‘Best Recording of the Year’ and ‘Album of the Year’ categories.

    Wizkid had three awards while Simi won the Album of the year.

    Star boy, Wizkid, on the other hand won two awards in the ‘Viewers’ Choice’, ‘Best Music Video’ and ‘Best R&B and Pop Album’ categories.

    Another big winner for the night was celebrated Nigerian rapper, Jude Abaga, aka Mr Increcible (MI) whose diss track, ‘You Rappers Should Fix up Your Lives’, earned him victory in two categories; ‘Best Rap Single’ and ‘Lyricist on the Roll’

    For MI, it was a not just a time for gratitude but also a moment to reminisce on past victories. “Won my first award in 2008. Ten years later I won the same award. I am humbled and grateful.. God bless you guys for supporting me,” he posted on his Twitter handle.

    Soulful RnB singer, Simi who has been having a wonderful outing since the release of her album, also expressed gratitude to God for the numerous victories she bagged. “Yassssss!!!!! #SIMIARMY we did it!!!! God is the Greatest. When God got you, everything else will fall into place,” she wrote in two separate posts on Instagram.

    The Headies 2018 also conferred a Special Recognition to Nigeria’s dance queen, Kaffy and a Hall of Fame to music impresario, Chris Ubosi.

  • M.I TO HEADLINE LEGEND’S ‘REAL DEAL EXPERIENCE’

    ICONIC rapper, Jude Abaga, aka Mr incredible (MI) will headline Legend Extra Stout’s signature nationwide music tour, Real Deal Experience, in Abuja come Saturday, September 2 at The Palms, Galadimawa, Abuja.

    Part of the activities lined up for the event includes an online talent competition on Legend Extra Stout’s social media pages that will reward the winner with N50,000.

    The Lagos State Government on Friday said it has concluded plans to climax the Lagos@50 celebrations with a spectacular display of fireworks.

    The Government, in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde, said the fireworks would be on display at midnight of Sunday, May 28 on the water of Eko Atlantic.

    ”This is inform the public that there will be a display of fireworks as part of the music and fashion show to round off the 50thAnniversary Celebrations of the State. The fireworks will be on display at exactly 12 midnight at the Eko Atlantic City during the Golden Concert. Residents do not need to panic or nurse any fear whatsoever when they hear the sound of the fireworks as it is only just a symbolic way to draw the curtains of what has been a very splendid and successful celebration of our golden State.”

    “Residents who cannot attend the concert can also catch it live on Television as it promises to be a historic and exciting night of fun and maximum entertainment”, Ayorinde said.

    The Commissioner also expressed the gratitude of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to the sponsors of the fireworks, Eko Atlantic Nigeria Limited.

    The Lagos@50 Celebration, which began on May 27, 2016, has featured series of events and activities to showcase the cultural essence of the State, including Jazz Meets Runway, International Conferences, Arts Exhibition, Film Shows, among others.

    50 top artistes who have ruled the Lagos music scene over the years are expected to perform at the concert.

    Some of the artistes billed to perform include juju music maestros – King Sunny Ade and Evangelist Ebenezer Obey as well as the legendry Highlife Patriarch, Sir Victor Olaiya.

    Other superstars on board are Davido, Phyno, Olamide, Humble Smith, Adekunle Gold, Lil Kesh, Partoranking, ‘Mr Capable’ Banky W, Runtown, Vanessa, MI, Eedris Abdulkareem, Mr. Eazi, DJ Spinall and Waka Music star, Queen Salawa Abeni.

    Also expected are star Fuji artistes like Adewale Ayuba, Abass Akande Obesere and Wasiu Alabi (Pasuma Wonder).

    The Concert would also feature a fashion show to depict the evolution of fashion in Lagos state.

    Ghana-based Dancehall star, JKL4Real also known as Dr. Money, has revealed that he is currently working on collaborative efforts with two top Nigerian musicians – 2Baba and MI.

    He strongly believes that the time has come for African and Black Musicians to take the bull by the horns and impact mankind positively with their lyrical contents and vocal prowess.

    “My journey so far is impressive. My management is currently in a fruitful discussion with 2Baba for a remix of my single, Whatever. In the same vein, we are also in talks with MI, for a collabo on my fresh single – Chineke. In the next couple of weeks, we will be making official and categorical statements on these historic and laudable collaborative projects”, disclosed the widely travelled crooner.

    Also, JKL4Real and his team recently secured a mouth watering contract, which allows them to host a celebrity Karaoke Party every Friday night at the prestigious Vienna City Nite Club, in the heart of Accra.

    The entertainer, who was among the foreign stars that thrilled at the Independence Day Bowler Hats Bash (BHB) organised by online newspaper, Daylight.ng in Nigeria, on October 1, is billed to embark on a global music  tour that is expected to kick off from Malaysia.

    “My world tour kicks off in Malaysia, where I will also be attending the ASAM Awards. I will be in Uganda this December for the One World Xmas Festival. And in January, we will be jamming at New Days of Righteousness show in Jamaica. We are also performing at the Rebel Salute concert in Ghana by March, after which we will be storming Israel and Sweden respectively in June and July. 2017 is going to be a very busy year for us.”

    Addressing the media parley, CEO of Buckwyld ‘n’ Breathless Media Network, Efe Omorogbe spoke also unveiled other headliners set to perform at the concert.

    He reiterated that the concert will be nothing short of extraordinary, a fusion of what he describes as ”Power of Music put together by the greatest acts to come out of Nigeria”.

    Omorogbe also emphasized that this concert will not be a musical concert like expected but a concert that collaborates theatrical performance, dance and music, telling the legendary tale of Nigeria’s world class talents- 2Baba and MI Abaga who have collaborated on major hits songs and have journeyed to fame by shear hard work and raw talent.

    “We ensured that the concept of disruption revolves around the delivery of more when it comes to the standard of concerts in Nigeria and to prove that concerts from Nigeria can scratch beyond the surface,” he said.

    Other artistes expected to perform at the concert include Vanessa Mdee, Waje, Jesse Jagz, Nosa, Ice Prince, Sound Sultan, Vector, and Cohbams Asuquo with Andre Blaze as the host accompanied by Emma Ugolee. Also to grace the show will be a special celebrity guest who is yet to be unveiled as co hosts of the concert.
