    Olympiakos’ manager showers praise on Olaitan

    Michael Olaitan’s rich vein of scoring form continued on Saturday after he netted a brace as Olympiakos defeated Veria 5-0.

    The Nigeria international was on target in the 70th and 90th minute of the encounter at Stadio Verias to take his tally of goals to 10 in all competitions this season.

    Manager Michel has showered praises on Olaitan, whom he signed from Veria on a four – year deal this past summer.

    “He (Olaitan) is a basic and important player for Olympiakos. He was called to fill the gap of Mitroglou and succeeds in the best possible way

    “I wish I had in the team other players like Olaitan! ” Michel told reporters.

    Olympiakos have amassed 68 points from their first 24 games in the Super League.

    Michael Olaitan scored his third league goal of the season on Saturday as Olympiacos beat Levadiakos 2-0 on match day 20 of the Greek Super League.

    Olaitan netted in predatory fashion in the 54th minute after his teammates, David Fuster and Javier Saviola failed to apply the finishing touch to Andreas Samaris’ low cross from the right.

    It was a telling contribution from the Nigeria who had barely been on the pitch for eight minutes. He was drafted in as a substitute on the stroke of half time for top marksman, Kostas Mitroglou who is the club’s highest goal scorer this season with 14 league goals to his name.

    Olaitan’s goal on Saturday at the Stadio Georgios Karaiskáki was his third in the league this season after he scored against Asteras Tripolis on December 12, 2013 and Ergotelis on December 1, 2013.

    The 20-year-old has been in good form this season with inspiring displays for Olympiacos in the Greek Cup and the UEFAChampions League.

    He has represented Nigeria at Under-20 level and was part of the Flying Eagles team at the FIFA World Cup in 2013.

    Michael Olaitan shone again for Olympiacos on Sunday to again stake further claim for an Eagles call-up leading up to the World Cup.

    The Flying Eagles attacking midfielder was the hero of his Greek Super League club when he scored in his team’s 2-0 win over Levadiakos to earn three points.

    Olympiacos, who will battle Manchester United in next month’s UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie, remains top of the table with 56 points from 20 points.

    He scored the opener in the 54th minute, just eight minutes after he came on as a substitute for Konstantinos Mitroglou.

    He has now scored three goals in 10 games.

    He has been tipped by MTNFootball.com to be considered by Stephen Keshi on his 40-man provisional squad for the World Cup in June in Brazil.

    Olaitan seals win for Olympiakos

    Michael Olaitan scored for Olympiakos as they beat Asteras Tripolis 2-0 in the Greek Super League at the weekend.

    The 20-year-old scored on the 89th minute to seal the win for the defending champions, after Alejandro Domínguez 74th minute spotkick had given them the lead.

    Olaitan also scored in Olympiakos 3-0 win over Egrotelis last weekend. The midfielder has scored twice in the Super League, and twice in the Greek Cup this season. Olympiakos now top the Super League with 40 points from 14 games, and sit 8 points adrift of second placed PAOK Thessaloniki.

    Abdul Ajagun was an unused substitute for Panathinaikos as they recorded a 4-0 away win over Kalloni on Sunday.
