Injured ABS midfielder out for 12 weeks

The Coach of Abubakar Bukola Saraki (ABS) Ilorin FC, Henry Makinwa, has confirmed that one of his players Muiz Adeoti will be out for at least 12 weeks due to a fractured toe.

Makinwa while speaking with journalists on Wednesday in Ilorin said the young midfielder had undergone a successful surgery on the toe in a private hospital in Lagos on Tuesday.

“We are very sad about the injury but we thank God the operation was successful.

“He should be out for no fewer than 12 weeks.

“We had tried a lot of corrective measures to get him back on the field but it has not yielded any results.

“This is why we opted for the operation, we will give him all necessary support to get him back quickly.

“At a time, we asked him to run but he couldn’t run very well then, hence the reason we went for the operation,” Makinwa said.

It would be recalled that Adeoti has not taking part the season due to the injury sustained at the end of last season.

Nasarawa Utd midfielder dedicates debut goal to family

Nasarawa United midfielder Aminu Abdulkadir has scored his first goal of the season for the Glo Premier League club, and he’s dedicating the goal to his family.

The attacking midfielder who joined the Solid Miners from Kogi United before the on-going campaign commenced was on target for his team as they won 2-0 in a Nigeria Professional Football League match against FC Taraba on Wednesday.

The youngster told News24 that it was his first league goal of the season and revealed what this ‘special goal’ meant to him.

“I am very, very happy, extremely happy. But what’s more important is that we won the game and the goal was the opener,” he said in an exclusive interview with News24.

“It was my first goal of the NPFL season, it’s for my family. It’s a special goal for me, first goal in a long time. But what’s more important is that we won the game.”

“The goal wasn’t meant to be a statement and I know one goal doesn’t automatically give me game time. Whatever happens from today onwards, I will always try to give my best for the team and I’ll just take it one game at a time.”

Aminu grabbed a total of ten goals for Kogi United in the 2013/14 Nigeria National League season before he was snapped up by Nasarawa United.

  • Swansea’s bid for Montpellier midfielder Stambouli accepted

Swansea’s bid for Montpellier midfielder Stambouli accepted

Swansea City have had a €5 million bid accepted by Montpellier for midfielder Benjamin Stambouli, Goal understands.

Montpellier rate Stambouli highly, but the 23-year-old has just 12 months remaining on his current contract, forcing the French club to lower their valuation of the player.

The Ligue 1 side have already sold Remy Cabella to Newcastle United this summer after the Tyneside club’s lengthy pursuit of the midfielder, and could now also lose Stambouli.

The versatile defensive midfielder, who can also play as a centre-back or right-back, has also attracted interest from Fiorentina, but Swansea are understood to have made a bigger offer than the Serie A outfit.

  • Obiora finally at home in Coimbra

Obiora finally at home in Coimbra

Super Eagles midfielder, Obiora Nwankwo has said he is finally enjoying life as a professional footballer after a difficult period.

Obiora joined Portuguese club, Académica de Coimbra on a free transfer for Spanish side, Córdoba on July 31. The midfielder revealed that the deal was basically down to his relationship with the Académica coach, Paulo Sérgio.

“Paulo Sérgio was my coach while I was at (Romanian club), CFR Cluj. He asked me if I would like to play for him at Académica and I said “Yes”. That was that,” Obiora told supersport.com.

The 23-year-old had joined Córdoba in January, 2014 but had a six-month spell to forget as his contract was cancelled by the Spaniards. It came to him as a shock as Córdoba had just been promoted to the top flight (Primeira Division) and he was looking forward to life in the top flight.

He played just six league matches for the club as he had to nurse an injury for most of the period and that necessitated the romance between both parties to come to an abrupt end.

“I had to leave Spain because of my injury. After we got promoted, the club called me and said because I’ve been injured for four months and played only six games, they would have to terminate my contract.

“It was the most shocking thing I heard this year. I told them the injury wasn’t my fault but they had already made up their mind. Things would, however, look up for me because God being a covenant keeping God made sure I was soon smiling. I already had this offer (to come to Portugal) even before last season ended,” he said.

Obiora had previously played club football in Romania and Italy where he turned out for 18-time Italian champions, Internazionale and he identified that period as the best in his career.

“I was a very young footballer then. Training and playing with some of the greatest footballers in the world was an education and a privilege. I even got a chance to play in the UEFA Champions League and that was the best period of my life.

“It’s been rough ever since I left Inter Milan. Moving from one club to another at six months intervals is a complicated thing. I finally feel like I am back on the right track here in Portugal,” he said.

Obiora made his debut on Saturday as Académica drew 1-1 with Lisbon giants, Sporting Club. He played all 90 minutes of the contest and was booked in the 54th minute.

“I mistimed a tackle and got a yellow card. It was a relief to finish the game without picking up another booking because I was walking a tight rope. The standard is very high here. Portuguese football is highly respected all over the world and with great sides like Sporting, Porto and Benfica, I am sure I will grow as a man as a footballer,” he said.
