Think before you act, Mind Builders School graduating class 2024 advised

The members of Mind Builders School graduating Class of 2024 have been urged not lose all they  and their parents worked for in a vulnerable moment. Therefore, they must always think before they act.

“You have achieved something remarkable, and now you stand on the precipice of a world full of opportunities and challenges. As you step into this new chapter of your lives, I want to remind you of a profound truth: Freedom without boundaries is bondage.

“In the coming years, you will have more freedom than ever before. Cherish it, but also be mindful.

“Do not lose all you have worked for, and what your parents have worked for, in a vulnerable moment. The Internet does not forget, so always think before you act,” the keynote speaker at the event, Mrs. Anuoluwa Akinola, told the graduands.

The ceremony was held recently in the school ultra-modern hall with the theme: “Breaking Limits”.

Mrs. Akinola congratulated the graduates for the significant milestone in their lives, admonishing them to always reflect on the incredible efforts, hardwork, dedication and resilience put together before achieving the great success.

Urging the graduands to make the best of every moment, he counseled them to embrace the mind-set of a life-long learner.

“Keep learning, because failure is not the end, but a part of your learning curve. It’s an opportunity to grow. Step out of your comfort zones and build your strengths. Volunteer, serve others, serve your parents and the less privileged. Have a plan for the next six months and strive towards it with determination “.

“Believe in your dreams. Every one of you can achieve greatness. Your dreams are valid, and within you lays a seed of greatness. Do not let it die by neglecting to nurture it.

“I have lived in a village, failed many exams, yet today, I have awards from all over the world. I once competed with first-class students and came out on top. Maintain a positive perspective and believe in the power of your mind-set”.

Education Director (ED) of Mind Builders School, Mrs. Bola Falore, in her remarks, said “the most befitting way to begin the event was to thank the Almighty God for His faithfulness and numerous blessings upon the school, for His protection over our children, His provision for our parents, His strength for our teachers, and His wisdom for the management are especially cherished during these challenging times marked by economic uncertainty, inflation, and the dread of the unknown.

“Despite these challenges, we are still standing strong.”

The ED congratulated the graduates, whom she attested to their tireless works on assignments, homework, and projects, overcome challenges and had persevered to reach the moment as well as by their hard work, determination and resilience.

She enjoined them to be proud of their achievements. “Congratulations, you have made it”! She exclaimed.

The graduates were urged to remember that education did not end at the occasion, but just the beginning.

The guest minister of the occasion was Rev. (Canon) Bode Daramola, Vicar, Bishop Irunsewe Kale Memorial Church, Olowora, Lagos and the Chairman of the day was Dr. Olukayode Taiwo, Managing Partner, Golden Palace Consulting.

Rev. Daramola urged the graduands to embrace challenges with a mindset of doing the impossible. “While success and failure are inevitable parts of life, they do not define us. Instead, let us discover our true identity in Christ and embrace the strength He provides to persevere through every trial.

“Use technology and every available resource to develop your talents and skills. Just as an eagle soars high above the storms, aspire to elevate yourself beyond limitations. Learn to say “No” to distractions and carefully consider the consequences of every action.”

  • How sports can boost national talent pool

Principal of Mind Builders School, Lagos, Mr Francis Fasuyi, has urged government officials in charge of sports to attend school sports programmes regularly to spot new talents for Nigeria.

Speaking at the 8th Biennial Inter-House Sports competition of the school held at the Agege Stadium last Friday, Fasuyi said in the course of training for the competition, some of the athletic professionals engaged for the event identified a pupil who displayed excellent skill in high jump.

Fasuyi also said the school was collaborating with Ex-Super Eagles Goalkeeper, Peter Rufai, to spot football talents.  He said if such could be done for all sports, Nigeria would not be lacking in talents for international meets.

“As we are here, we have discovered so many talents.  We are working in conjunction with Peter Rufai so that talents can be groomed for football.  We are looking for more trainers in other sports.  We expect government officials in charge of sports to attend events such as this so they can spot talents that can be groomed for the country,” he said.

The competition featured track events such as the sprint races (50, 100, 200, and 4x100m relay), invited schools’ relay, march past and choreography by the four houses, and tunnel and hoop/treasure/hoop and ball/bakers/big fish and 25 metres races for pre-school children.

Members of staff, teachers, and invited guests were not left out as they participated in staff race, mothers’ race, fathers’ race, and executive race for invited private school proprietors.

The mothers’ race required mothers of pupils to unwrap 10 seasoning cubes before running to the finish line; while the fathers had to knot a tie before running to the finish line.  For the Executive Race, the school owners danced gracefully with the Education Director, Mrs Bolajoko Falore to the finish line where gifts packs awaited each of them.

At the end of the competition, Diamond (Grey) House came first with 16 Gold, five Silver and three bronze; Peridot (Green) came second with seven gold, nine silver and 11 bronze medals; Citrine (Green), was third with five Gold, 11 silver and nine bronze medals; while Lapis (Blue) came fourth with three gold, six silver and four bronze medals.

In her speech, Mrs Falore underscored the importance of sports in education and national development.

“Education without sports is incomplete.  In Mind Builders, we believe in developing a total child through total education.  One of the ways of building the total child is to expose them to physical training through a competitive exercise with the spirit of Olympics,” she said.

A beneficiary, Rasak Kaseem, said he is grateful for such opportunity and urged other schools to emulate the gesture.

“It is, indeed, thoughtful of Mind Builders to organise something of such to benefit the public. I am grateful that I benefited from it.This is something schools should do to the public, most especially for the less privilege,’’ he said.

“The school has decided to put a smile on my face. I am very happy to be part of this. I had an eyeglass free. May God bless the school for remembering us,” said another beneficiary Mrs Deborah Popoola.

Mrs Aina, who accompanied her husband to the venue, said: “The eye surgery targeted at 20 persons is quite expensive coupled with other benefits from this screening, but the school has decided to shoulder the cost and that is laudable. It is not about how much you have but how many lives you touch.”

The Chairman of the school, Mr Bosun Falore, said the gesture was the school’s way of giving back.

“It (donation) is about giving – helping the less-privileged – and making quality contributions to the society. Also spiritually, it is more blessed to give. Also how can you feel happy when surrounded with people in need?  We are 20 years; so we decided to do something for the public.”

He praised Dr Leke Pitan, former Lagos State commissioner for Health, for his impact in the reformation of the health sector in the state among which included Lagos State Ambulance Services, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and others.

He thanked the state Commissioner for Police through the Police Medical Hospital, Falomo for providing medical personnel, materials and laboratory test kit for the free cervical test.

Pitan, who chaired the occasion, commended the school’s initiative to render free services to the public.

“It is a unique path-finding,” Pitan said.

“You appreciate that education is no just about teaching pupils. What you are doing, you may consider it a small matter but is a unique activity in many respect. You are doing what ought to be the norm in our society but unfortunately many mistakes have been done that made us not to remember such things. Not only it is being done by educators but in a school compound where the pupils will also be impacted the necessity to give back to the society. You are working the talk. It is laudable and commendable,’’ he added.

  • Mind Builders holds parenting seminar

    Mind Builders holds parenting seminar

Handling the dicey task of parenting was the focus of a parenting seminar at Mind Builders School, CBD-Alausa branch Lagos on Monday as part of the school’s 20th anniversary celebration.

The seminar with the theme: “Parenting for success: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow” was coordinated by Mrs Yinka Ogunde of Edumark Consult.

Keynote Speaker, Mrs Alero Ayida-Otobo said parents must deliberately nurture the talents of their wards.

“Parenting is more than just giving a little bit of your time; it is beyond paying the school fees; you need to know your children, live with your children, work alongside your children to nurture and develop the talent that is inside of them.  You need to nurture their destiny; you need to incubate their purpose.  You now begin to see them as nation builders, solution carriers.  When you begin to see them as those two things, your approach to parenting will change,” she said.

She also said everyone should be concerned about how other people’s children in their communities are raised as they could have relationships with their own children later in life.

A panel discussion that followed the keynote address featured three panelists, Mrs Ronke Adeniyi, a school owner and parents’ rights advocate, Mr Wemimo Ogunde, former Attorney-General /Commissioner for Justice, Ogun State, Mrs Helen Essien, a parenting enthusiast, and a moderator, Mr Akinropo Akinola.

They deliberated about issues of discipline, community parenting, practices of the past compared to today, schools and their relationship with the home, among others.

Mrs Adeniyi said parents of today need to be informed to be able to effectively monitor their wards.  She said parents should fill their knowledge gap by reading widely so they don’t lose their children.

“The is a gap in knowledge these days.  If you tell a child the sky is blue, you need to google and explain why it is so.  The moment we say don’t do this, and we don’t find out what they already know, we will lose them,” she said.

Mrs Adeniyi advocated for an institute of parenting so parents learn to be good parents.

“You don’t just get married and start having children.  You need to know why you want to have children.  Some people have one child too many and they may only have one child.  We need an institution for parenting so people can learn how to parent,” she said.

Speaking on stigmatization attached to single parenting, Mr Ogunde said single parents need not feel ashamed or incapable.  He said several factors apart from having a child out of wedlock caused single parenthood including death of a spouse, divorce, etc.  He said since two parents in a home usually had contradictory parenting styles, a single parent had a chance to be a lone voice in parenting and could effectively raise good children.

“It is not compulsory a father and mother raise a child. In most homes, fathers and mothers have contradictory ideas about raising children.  When you find conflicting signals sent by parents, who said only one parent cannot raise a child?” he asked.

On parenting styles, Mrs Essien advocated a mix between the Authoritative and Authoritarian styles, and warned parents to stay away from the Permissive parenting style.  She said each child in a home usually required a different style of parenting.

“In those days, we had authoritarian ways of raising children.  That does not work anymore.  We have to fit the parenting style to the child,” she said.

Prior to the Parenting Seminar, Mind Builders School, opened the 20th anniversary programme with an in-house service last Friday, during which Pastor Tunde Bakare, Serving Overseer of the Latter Rain Assembly ministered.

Pastor Bakare praised the school for investing in Nigeria’s development through education.

“I want to congratulate you for staying in the corner that will make Nigeria great.  If you can help them build their minds to be strong, when that happens, nobody can stop this school,” he said.

  • ACE Ondo old students reunite

It was an exciting moment for the 1981-1984 set of the old students of the Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo State, following their meeting at the Mind Builders School, Ikeja last week.

They exchanged pleasantries, dined together, took photographs and danced to various genres of music after three decades of leaving their alma mater.

It was the second reunion party of the set fondly called the ‘Arbicans’ since they parted ways 35 years ago after their studies.

Amidst laughter and mimicry, they introduced themselves, the positions they held and their current status. They also celebrated an alumnus, Mrs Bola Gureje, a poultry farmer whose birthday coincided with the reunion.

Gureje, who had earlier made plans to celebrate her birthday in Ibadan, said she cancelled it to mark it with her peers.

“My joy knows no bounds to meet with my old mates.  It brings back those days of school. The closeness, the trust and support we gave ourselves. It rejuvenated the old days.

“I did not hold any position, but I was active in students’ activities.  We would always come out en masse to support any cause that benefited the students. During that period there was nothing like cultism, what existed was Palmwine Drinkers Club,” she said.

The founder of The Arbicans, Mr Adewale Shiji, said there was need for a reunion.

Shiji, also known as ‘Mr White’, recalled how he formed the Man O’ War arm of the school and was the director of students’ welfare.

He was happy that members of the set had excelled individually, with many becoming prominent personalities in the society.

“It is a great reminiscence leaving school 35 years ago and meeting them again. It is not easy; to God be the Glory.

“I am happy that the set has produced people, who are contributing to the society. This set has about five permanent secretaries, heads of service, directors, 32 principals and still counting,” he said.

The set also appointed their leaders to ensure effective continuity of the reunion.

It was an exciting time last Wednesday for pupils of Mind Builders, School, Alausa, who were joined by family and friends to mark this year’s Christmas carol/concert as part of activities to wind up the year.

Tagged:”Joy to the world”, the carol of seven lessons featured choir, orchestra, drama presentations by the nursery, primary and high school sections of the school.

According to the school’s executive director, Mrs Bolajoko Falore, the idea behind the event was to reflect on the reason why Christ was born and the essence of our existence.
