  • Police arraigns man for defiling minor

    The Police in Edo State has arraigned one Ogbe Moses before an Evbouriaria Magistrates court for having unlawfully carnal knowledge with a five-year-old girl.

    Police Prosecutor, Sergeant Olatoye Oluwaseun, informed the Court that the accused committed the offence on March 2, at Elemare Street, off Sapele road in Benin.

    Oluwaseun said Nwaobi unlawfully inserted his penis into the victim’s vaginal.

    Nwaobi pleaded not guilty when the one count charge of unlawful carnal knowledge was read to him.

    Presiding Chief Magistrates, Mrs C.E Oghuma, granted the accused person bail to the sum of N400,000 and a surety in like sum who must be a civil servant with grade level 14.

    Oghuma adjourned the case to April 4 for hearing.

    Edo: Father of three jailed for defiling minor

    A secondary school teacher and father of three, Rotimi Olayemi, has been sentenced of two years imprisonment for indecently assaulting a 13-year old female student inside the school premises.

    Rotimi, aged 47, was jailed by an Egor Magistrates Court which found him guilty of the two count charge preferred against him.

    The convict was arrested in 2014 after some neighbors noticed how female students spent longer hours in his office.

    Prosecutor Osasu Ewemade, informed the court that the convict committed the crime on May 26, 2014 at his office in King of Kings College.

    Ewemade said that the convict usually invite his victims to his office where he do hug, kiss, fondled and put his hand on their private part.

    The convict pleaded not guilty to the four count charges bothering on unlawful assault.

    Presiding Magistrates, Mrs. Igho Braimoh, sentenced Rotimi to one year on each count or an option of N50,000 on each of the count.

    The jail term is to run concurrently.

    Policeman remanded for defiling minor

    A 37-year old police officer, Umar Babatunde has been remanded in prison custody by an Egor Magistrate Court for having unlawful carnal knowledge of a 9-year-old girl in Benin.

    Babatunde was alleged to have committed the offence on November 2 at No 12,  Omokaro Street off Siluko road in Benin.

    Investigating Police officer (IPO), Sergeant Vivian Akhionbare told the court that the accused has been dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force since November last year when the case was reported.

    The accused pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge on unlawful carnal knowledge preferred against him.

    State Counsel, Mrs O.R. Ewemade, said the offence contravened section 218 of the criminal Code Cap. 48 Vol. ll laws of the defunct Bendel State of Nigeria 1976 as applicable in Edo.

    Presiding Magistrates, Mrs Igho Braimoh, remanded the accused in prison, and ruled that bail would be considered in the course of trial.

    She adjourned the case till May 11 for hearing.

    14-year-old teenager remanded for defiling minor

    An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday remanded a 14-year-old teenager (names withheld) at the Boys Correctional Centre, Isheri, a suburb of Lagos, for allegedly raping a five-year-old daughter of his neighbour.

    The Chief Magistrate, Mr Tajudeen Elias, who remanded the accused, over the alleged defilement, then adjourned the case to March 23, to listen to the accused’s bail application.

    The accused, a student, who lives with his parents at 2, Kao Close, Santos Estate, Dopemu, a suburb of Lagos, is facing a charge of defilement.

    The prosecutor, Benedict Aigbokhan, said the accused committed the offence on Feb. 4, at his residence’s toilet.

    “One of the neighbours, who heard the cry of the girl, had to rush into the toilet where he apprehended the accused,” the prosecutor told the court.

    The offence, according to the prosecutor, contravenes Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 137 prescribes that any person who has sexual intercourse with a child is guilty of a felony and is liable to imprisonment for life.

    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.

  • Man jailed three years for defiling minor

     

     

    A 45-year old man, Joseph Okoye, has been sentenced to three years imprisonment with hard labour for defiling a four year old girl.
    Joseph, a palm wine seller was said to have in August 2014, lured the minor from her great grand mother’s apartment to his shop, where he was said to have sexually defiled her.

     

    Delivering  judgement, Presiding Magistrate Prince M. Oare, described the action of the convict as wicked and evil,
    According to him, “I have listened to the plea for leniency by the Convict. I have also taken into consideration that the convict is a first time offender. However, taking the age of the victim into consideration, the act of the convict will not only be regarded as wicked, but evil.”

     

    “In this regard, an option of fine cannot be considered. The Convict is accordingly sentenced to three years in prison with hard labour. The term of imprisonment is to commence from when he was admitted into Prison Custody in 2014, since bail was not granted”.
    Programme coordinator of BraveHeart Initiative, the group that spearheaded the case, Priscillia Usiobaifo, said her continued visit to the victim’s grandmother and family served as assurance that the victim would get justice for crime committed against her.

  • Businessman gets N1m bail for ‘defiling’ minor

    An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court has granted N1 million bail to a 23-year-old trader, Obinna Obaji, for allegedly defiling a three-year-old girl by fingering.

    Chief Magistrate Tajudeen Elias, in his ruling last Friday, ordered the defendant to produce two sureties in like sum as part of the bail conditions.

    Elias said Obaji should deposit N100, 000 into the Chief Registrar’s Account, pending the determination of the case.

    Obaji, a trader on Orisumbare Street in Iyana Ipaja, Lagos was arraigned on February 29 on a one-count charge of sexual assault, but he pleaded not guilty.

    Prosecuting Inspector Benedict Aigbokhan said the defendant committed the offence at his residence on February 21.

    Aigbokhan said the defendant was living in the same compound with the victim’s mother.

    “It was when the victim, a three-year-old girl, wanted to urinate that her mother discovered that she was finding it difficult to urinate and also crying.

    “The mother saw marks on her daughter’s vagina and when she asked her what happened, the girl said it was the defendant that inserted his hand into it,.’’ Aigbokhan said.

    The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 404 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

    Elias adjourned the case to April 13 for the Department of Public Prosecution’s advice.

    Police arrest man for alleged Sodomy

    For allegedly raping a five-year-old boy repeatedly, one Ganiyu Amusat, 25, has been arrested by police operatives in Lagos.

    He was said to have lured the minor, who is said to be in a critical state at a hospital, with biscuits.

    The victim (names withheld) was said to have been playing with his mates in front of their compound along Hanson Street, Alakuko, when the suspect signalled him to come.

    He was said to have taken the boy into his apartment where he allegedly raped him through the anus.

    The Nation gathered that it was the wailing of the minor, after the incident that gave the suspect away.

    Upon examination, curious neighbours who had gathered to find out what was wrong with him noticed that the minor’s pants were stained and blood was gushing out from his anus.

    When asked what happened, he reportedly mentioned Amusat , consequent upon which he was apprehended by the Police.

    Confirming the development, Police Commissioner, Fatai Owoseni said the suspect was assisting police investigation, adding that the victim was ruahed to Jeffis Specialist Hospital in the area.

    In another development, a suspected member of a four-man armed robbery gang was yesterday killed during a gun battle with policemen at the Ebute-Metta area of the state.

    The robbery it was gathered, snatched a vehicle from a female motorist at Estate bus-stop and was zooming off when a team of policemen arrived the scene.

    A gun battle was said to have ensued during which the suspect identified as Isiaka was killed.
    Owoseni who confirmed the story said the case has been transferred to the Special Anti-Robbery Sqaud, (SARS), Ikeja for further investigation.

    Man held for raping seven children in Ebonyi

    Ebonyi State Police Command has arrested a middle aged man, Chinedu Nwoja, for allegedly defiling seven female children at Onueke in Ezza South local government area of the state.

    The state police spokesman, Mr. George Okafor, stated this in Abakaliki Thursday.

    The Command took up the matter following a petition by the Family Law Centre, Abakaliki.

    Narrating their ordeal, some of the victims aged between six and 10 alleged that the man who was a father of three had on several occasions lured them to his vehicle and other isolated places where he repeatedly carried out the act.

    Some of the parents of the children, Mrs. Elizabeth Nweke and Mr. Monday Obaji said they became aware of the development when their children started complaining of pains in their private parts, pointing out that the accused admitted to the offence when confronted by the community members.

    The Chairman of Family Law Centre, Mrs. Elizabeth Nwali, explained that the Centre petitioned the State Criminal Investigation Department following complaints that the accused who was handed over to police at Onueke was discharged same day without proper questioning.

    But the police spokesman said the matter was under investigation, but claimed that the affected families were yet to bring the victims for medical test.

    Man docked for defiling minor

    An Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun on Tuesday remanded a 41-year-old man, Yusuf Garuba, in prison custody for allegedly defiling a four-year-old girl.

    Garuba, who resides at No. 29 Adura St., Ijaye, a suburb of Lagos, is being tried on a charge of defilement.

    The Prosecutor, Sgt. Rosemary Samson, told the court that the accused had an unlawful carnal knowledge of the girl at No. 4, Ajayi St., Ota, Ogun.

    He said that the offence contravened Sections 215 and 249 of the Criminal Code, Revised Law of Ogun, 2006.

    The Magistrate, Miss Temitope Adebutu, ordered that the accused should be remanded in prison custody pending the advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

    Adebutu, however, adjourned the case till Dec. 4 for mention.

  • Policeman held for defiling minor

    A police corporal with the Ugbodo division in Ebonyi local government area of Ebonyi State, Samuel Okere, has been arrested by the Juvenile Welfare Centre (JWC) for allegedly defiling a three-year-old.

    Okere was said to have committed the act at the victim’s house when she returned from school. Her parents were not at home.

    When the parents returned from work, the girl complained of pains in her private part.

    She told her father, Emmanuel Iyiekuna, that the policeman ‘defiled’ her. Iyiekuna challenged Okere but he said he did not have sex witht he girl.

    He was said to have offered Iyiekuna N50,000 to take care of his daughter which he rejected.

    But it was confirmed at a clinic that the girl’s hymen was broken.

    Iyiekuna reported to the family law centre, a special court that treats such cases but Okere denied the accusation.
