    Screening for Miss Niger Delta ends in Rivers

    Screening and auditioning exercise for Miss Niger Delta Beauty Pageant has been concluded in the three selected states and centre.

    According to the organisers, the process for the NDDC 25th anniversary edition was held in Edo, Imo and Rivers.

    Rivers had its centre in Port Harcourt with over 100 contestants in attendance.

    In a statement in Port Harcourt by its Coordinator, Prince Sodin Akiagba, the exercise was well attended in each of the centres, adding that names of those who emerged successful in the screening would soon be published.

    He noted that the pageant is basically to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of the people of the region, as well as to celebrate the great jobs NDDC is doing in the communities and the commitment to empower girl children and female youths of the Niger Delta areas.

    Akiagba thanked the NDDC for its commitments in promoting value orientation and empowering young women through initiatives like the Miss Niger Delta pageant, adding that the Commission’s sponsorship and commitments to the course has continued to open doors of opportunity and transformation for young women across the region.

    “We thank God for grace and mercy, we’ve just concluded the screeing and audition exercise for Miss Niger Delta NDDC 25th anniversary edition. The committee has gone to eight other States, and we have just concluded the Screening exercise for Port Harcourt.

    “At the Port Harcourt centre we had over a hundred intended contenders for the anniversary Beauty pageant edition.

    “We cannot thank NDDC enough, it is all about orientation of value, promotion of self esteem, capacity building/skills acquisition and then to identify a talented female youth of the Niger Delta that wear the crown of the Miss Niger Delta, our Ambassador for peace and development, we’re celebrating NDDC for remarkable achievements over this 25 years.”

     Akiagba said: “The 25th anniversary edition promises to be a spectacular celebration of culture, purpose, and the evolving strength of the Niger Delta woman.”

  • Miss Niger Delta Peace pageant to hold Saturday

    All is set to hold the 17th edition of the Miss Niger Peace Cultural pageant at the Trade and Investment Centre, Port Harcourt Road, Owerri, Imo State on Saturday, July 21.

    Twenty contestants would be contesting for the crown which was won last year by Miss Iniobong Ikon

    President of Miss Niger Delta Organisation, Prince Sodin Akiagba, said, events lined up during the competition include performances from Timaya, Mercy Chinwo, Arinze baba, K Mouth and other artistes from within and outside the region. According to Akiagba, since inception of the pageant show in 1999, the competition has produced 15 beauty queens who have used their positions to touch lives of the people positively.

    “20 contestants from the nine states of the region will compete for the coveted crown, Miss Niger Delta Ambassador for Peace and Development and the winner will go home with a brand new car and other consolation prizes for the contestants,” he said.

    Already, the contestants have visited tourist attractions in the nine states of the region. They were also trained on different skills on arts and crafts by Aroma World, South Africa, as this is part of the main objective of the organisation which is centred on building capacity in arts, promoting hard work, discipline among female youths of the region.

  • Miss Niger Delta Peace audition for Owerri

    Come Saturday, June 30, audition and screening exercise will take place for the 17th edition of the Miss Niger Delta Peace Cultural pageant.

    The event takes place at the swimming pool side, Titanic View Hotel, Owerri, Imo State.

    Eligible contestants must be Niger Delta indigenes and be between 18 and 25 years with a minimum of West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). They must be single, 5 feet 8 inches tall  and must not have been convicted of any criminal offence. Contestants must also be prepared to carry out the role of an ambassador for peace and development and positive transformation.

    Executive and External Relations Director, Pageant and Development Network, Mildred Emmanuel, said the exercise is to select credible contestants for the pageant which comes up in Owerri before the end of the year.

    “The pageant is a platform to promote re-orientation of positive values among female youths of Niger Delta, skills and entrepreneurial development, economic for self-reliance, hard work, good conduct and project the region positively for investment and sustainable development,” she said.

  • INIOBONG OKON CROWNED MISS NIGER DELTA

    THE Ibom hall, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State came alive on Friday, December 30, 2016, as the grand finale of the 16th edition of Miss Niger Delta Peace Cultural pageant held.

    After a keen contest involving 24 contestants, the show climaxed with the crowning of a new queen, Iniobong Okon, a 400 level student of Ebonyi State University.

    Congratulating Miss Okon for emerging winner, President of Miss Niger Delta Organisation, Prince Sodin Akiagba, said that the show focuses on re-orientation of values, socio-cultural integration, peace promotion, talent and skills development, capacity building for self-reliance, self-employment and empowerment of female youths of the region.

    “The show is not about fanfare of crowning beauty queens but one event that is aimed at assisting young females from the region to play their roles as ambassadors for peace and development in the nation. Since inception of the Miss Niger Delta pageant in 1999, the events and projects of the pageant have served as a veritable platform to project the image of the region positively. Also, it promotes the rich cultural heritage of the region in culture, fashion, music, dance, the beauty and unique sites of tourism potentials,” Akiagba stated.

    The new queen, Iniobong Okon said: “I’m very grateful to God and my parents for their support during the competition. I will use my reign to impact positively on the lives of people in the region and be a good ambassador of the organization.”

    Artistes that performed during the show include Harry Song, Ikpa Udoh, Lafin Gas, Rock Nana, Dear Kelly, Don A and Okpo Real, Ice Kid, Aphysiks, General Ode, Skanky Master, The Soundforce Band and Lady B.

  • Miss Niger Delta audition holds in Port Harcourt

    The race is on for who becomes the next Miss Niger Delta 2014.

    Contestants from the states across the region will be converging in Port Harcourt, Rivers State for an audition which is proceeding the battle for the crown come Saturday, December 20.

    The pageant, according to the President, Miss Niger Delta organisation, Prince Sodin, seeks to promote the rich cultural heritage and dignity of women, saying the pageant does not permit bikini wears and indecent dressings or exposures during the event.

    Sodin said this year’s edition, entitled: One voice for peace, empowerment and transformation, will take place at Doctor Gabriel Cultural Centre, Yenegoa, Bayelsa State, adding that winners of the competition will be expected to build bridges of peace not only in the Niger Delta region but through synergy with other queens from other regions to promote peace, love and socio-cultural integration.

    He added that the audition will be holding this Friday at Berverly Hills Hotel, GRA, by 9am.

    “The event which is not all about crowning beauty queens but designed to promote socio cultural integration, tourism, human capital development and through various advocacy projects. The Miss Niger Delta competition has  carried out various programmes that has promoted early education for children, protection of the girl-child rights, campaigns on indecent dressings and prostitution, HIV/ AIDS/ Sickle cell, breast cancer, environmental protection, examination malpractice, cultism and other social vices.

    “The winner will be going home with a cash prize, a brand new car, a trip to Durban South Africa, while the first runner-up will go home with a cash prize, a trip to Dubai and the second runner-up goes home with a cash prize, a trip to Tinapa, Cross Rivers State. Other contestants will also go home with consolation prizes,” he said.
