  • I missed my first semester in school -Nina

Nina Chinonso is mostly linked to winner of Big Brother Naija, Miracle Igbokwe to won she was romantically attached throughout the show. During a visit to The Nation last week, the model who disclosed that she missed her first semester in school as a result of the show, said she has no regret about her romance in the house, as the things she did in BBN house are things she does in the outside world.

I know it’s been crazy since you guys got out. How have you been handling this new status, this celebrity life?

Well, I’m trying to know what it’s all about. It’s not easy but then I’m just handling it the best way I can.

I go through posts and I see people talking about you, especially when it comes to the obvious things, Miracle and Collins. How have you been handling the comments?

Well, I don’t believe those comments.

    You don’t?

    (mumbles )

    Are you sure?

    I don’t.

So, you don’t go through the comments?

    I don’t.

You don’t hear people tell you?

People do. I just don’t hear.

Where does Collins stand at this moment?

Actually, I really don’t want to talk about that.

What next? What do we expect from you now that you’re out of the house?

Okay, first of all, I actually want to open up my wig brand – Nina Wigs.  And I’m opening it on my birthday, that’s 31st of this month. And again, I’m entering the entertainment industry. And I have passion for beauty and fashion. So, those are the basic things I want to do.

Do you intend to do them concurrently – both schooling and that together

As for schooling, I’m in my final year and I missed the first semester. I’m thinking of; let me start from this, then later I would finish up with my school.

So, school is not the priority now?

I never said that. It is.

But right now, are you putting it on hold?

    Yeah.

There was actually a video of you that I saw. You were acting. Are you an actor?

    Yes

There is this perception that Big Brother house is all about immorality.

Like I said when I was in the house, anything I cannot do in the house, I cannot do outside. That’s just not me.

Presently, how does it stand between you and Miracle?

The priority for me is my goal, to achieve my dreams, especially when I went into the house, I really had this in mind. I wanted to go there so when I come out, I will achieve something. So right now, I really want to achieve what I want to achieve.

Towards the end of the show, we saw a closeness between yourself and Cee-C. What was the bond about?

We were only five in the house. Cee-C was just the only that wasn’t really associating with every other person. And me, I’m free with her, so I felt like, since she’s not really free with everyone, let me be with her so she won’t be lonely.

But outside the house, you guys are still close

    Yeah, we’re cool.

  • Sheikh Ibrahim’ll be sorely missed, says Asiwaju Tinubu

Sheikh Ibrahim’ll be sorely missed, says Asiwaju Tinubu

All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwart, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, yesterday said the late Chief Imam of Lagos would be sorely missed as he always put his deep knowledge and understanding of Islam at the disposal of many in Lagos.

The former Lagos Governor, in a statement last night in Lagos by Tinubu Media Office, said: “I’m deeply saddened by the death of the Chief Imam of Lagos. But as Muslims, we must take every occurrence as the will of Allah.

“As the leading Islamic scholar in Lagos, Sheikh Ibrahim will be sorely missed not only by Muslim faithful but by the people of Lagos and South-west.

“Sheikh Ibrahim always put his deep knowledge and understanding of Islam at the disposal of many. Through his sermon and ‘Khutbat’, he drew attention to the various societal ills and suggested corrective steps.

“As Lagos State governor, I presented him with the staff of office as the 9th Chief Imam of Lagos on July 30, 2000 following the demise of his predecessor, the late Alhaji Liadi Alade Ibrahim (OBE). I will miss him personally. He brought calming words during our period of turmoil.

“I mourn with members of his immediate family. I mourn with Muslim Ummah in Lagos, across the country and the world. May Almighty Allah grant him Al Jannah Firdaus.”

  • Your editorial on Envoys missed it

SIR: After reading your editorial entitled Envoys Visits, I came to the conclusion that though your newspaper has taken a firm position on the developments in the Senate, it has also decided to stand the facts on the head, in order to make your unjustifiable conclusions believable.

While your newspaper is free to assume the position of counsellor to the US and UK on which Nigerian official to visit and what position they should take on issues arising in Nigeria, I believe that an editorial must dish out only facts and nothing but the facts.

The editorial stated that “ Senator Saraki teamed up with the PDP senators and about eight from the APC to get the position at a time that about 51 other members of the of the APC were at the International Conference Centre in Abuja to attend a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari”. It continued that “as part of the trade-off by Senator Saraki, Senator Ike Ekweremadu of the PDP was elected Deputy Senate President. Not a few wondered how a man could have stabbed his own party in the back the way Senator Saraki did, just to realize his ambition”.

The rest of the editorial is based on the statements above. However, the editorial chose to ignore the fact that the candidate of the section of the party leadership which continued to claim that it is representing the APC, Ahmed Lawan, enjoys the support of only 27 senators out of 108. Thus, the so-called meeting purportedly convened by the President was planned by the same section of the party leadership which now flagrantly used the name of the party to legitimize its scheme. Its aim is to use the gathering to railroad and coerce the Senators and Representatives to go and rubber stamp its decisions.

This is against the position of the entire Senate that members should be left to decide their leadership. If it is true that Mr President conveyed the meeting at ICC by 9a.m., how come that by 10. 05 a.m. when the Senate began sitting on the strength of the proclamation issued by the same President stating that the inauguration should be done by 10a.m.the same day, Buhari had not arrived the venue of the meeting at ICC which they claimed he convened?

The editorial conveniently omitted the fact that the APC members present in the Senate Chambers that day fielded Senator Ali Ndume for the position of deputy senate president and voted for him but were defeated by the 49 PDP Senators who were all present as against the  25 APC senators present. Thus, instead of accusing Saraki of back stabbing his party by helping Ekweremadu to win, those who kept APC senators from the chambers and did not realise that they ought to change the time on the presidential proclamation sent to the Clerk, made Ekweremadu the Deputy Senate President by default.

It should be noted that if the Clerk of the National Assembly had conducted the elections of the leadership of the House of Representatives before or at the same time as that of the Senate, we would have ended up with a PDP Deputy Speaker as it happened in the Senate. The two hours in between the time he concluded the election in the Senate and when he started that of the House of Representatives saved the day in the House as it allowed members of the party to return from the aborted meeting to the House chambers. Otherwise, the PDP would have been in the majority on the floor in the absence of the APC members.

It is heartwarming that The Nation conceded that “there is no doubt that the Senate President met the legal requirement of a simple majority that he needed to emerge as the senate president”. This singular fact, combined with the fact that he enjoys support across party lines because majority of the senators believe in his capacity and capability to protect the independence of the legislature and nurture the principle of separation  of powers which undergirds the presidential system, justifies the endorsement by friends of Nigeria especially the countries from which we copy the essential elements of our democratic system.

  • Why Ibenegbu missed Nasarawa’s tie

    Why Ibenegbu missed Nasarawa’s tie

Heartland attacking midfielder, Ikechukwu Ibenegbu missed his side’s mid-week Globacom Premier League Matchday 18 clash against Nasarawa United at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri.

The Nigerian playmaker picked a thigh injury in his side’s 1-3 loss at oriental foes, Enugu Rangers on Sunday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.

However, the midfield maestro will use the time-out to rest his leg as well as inform friends and well-wishers of his upcoming wedding to heart-throb, Lilian Esom on June 29 at the Blessed Sacrament Parish, Enugu.

“I won’t be available for the game against Nasarawa United on Wednesday in Owerri, I had a severe knock on my thigh towards the tail end of the match at Enugu Rangers in Enugu on Sunday.

“I’ve been asked to rest the leg to avoid worsening the injury. So I’m out of the encounter but I’ll be praying for their victory. It has been tough in the past three matches criss-crossing the nation without a point to show for it.

“We need the points badly to reassure the increasingly worried fans that we’re still in the race for the league shield. We’ve been thoroughly busy lately so I hope to use the little time on my hands to inform friends of my wedding slated for June 29 in Enugu.

“The lucky lady is no other person than Lilian Esom, a Mass Communications undergraduate of Ebonyi State University. I think I’ve grown in the round leather game and time is ripe to get a partner who will further help me to grow in my chosen career. Together I’ll be a far better player both on and off the pitch,” said the former El-Kanemi Warriors playmaker to supersport.com.

  • Why Osaze missed Arsenal’s game – Clarke

Why Osaze missed Arsenal’s game – Clarke

STEVE Clarke has explained why he opted to start Shane Long ahead of 13-goal top scorer Romelu Lukaku in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat by Arsenal.

The Baggies boss also revealed Peter Osaze Odemwingie missed the Hawthorns clash after suffering a training-ground injury.

Long and Lukaku lined-up alongside each other in last weekend’s 3-1 reverse at West Ham.

But Clarke opted for the former to play the lone striker role against the fourth-placed Gunners, while the latter dropped to the bench before coming on with Markus Rosenberg as a 62nd-minute double change for Graham Dorrans and Jerome Thomas.

And Ireland international Long proved too much to handle for Per Mertesacker, who was sent-off after bringing him down for the 71st-minute penalty that James Morrison converted to give the hosts the chance to push for a late equaliser after going 2-0 down.

    “It was tactical,” said Clarke.

“Every team we’ve put out against the top teams this season we’ve always started with one up front. My call was whether to start with Shane or Romelu.

“It was Shane because I felt his particular style could cause their two centre-halves a problem.

“By and large it worked out that way.

“When Romelu and Markus Rosenberg came on we were chasing the game and there was a momentum to the team at that stage. They both made a good impact, which is pleasing.

“Peter picked up a little niggle through the week so we decided not to involve him in the squad.”

  • Baraje rues missed chances

    Baraje rues missed chances

El Kanemi Warriors Technical Adviser, Zachary Baraje was left to rue his side’s missed scoring opportunities in their Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) opener against Nasarawa United at the Lafia Township Stadium on Sunday.

The former Dolphins of Port Harcourt assistant coach, described the game against his former club as a competitive game but insisted that his side would have at least gone home with a victory had they capitalised on the counter-attack opportunities that came their way during the game.

“It was a first league match of the season for both sides and it was a very competitive game. Nasarawa United were very prepared for the game too. I want to commend my boys for playing to the game plan but they were unable to utilise counter-attack opportunities. We got so many of them but they missed the opportunities. The tempo of the game very high knowing full well that the two sides are coming from the lower league. It was a tough draw no doubt,” Baraje told SportingLife.

Replying a question, Baraje said: “It is too early to predict what will happen in the league because we all just played one match and we are fighting for one cup.”
