  • Osinbajo hands over apartment to EDOBEST teacher

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has presented the key and certificate for a two-bedroom apartment, a unit in Emotan Gardens estate, to Mrs. Osaru Noragbon, who is the best teacher in the Edo Basic Education Sector Transformation (EDOBEST) programme.

Osinbajo presented the apartment to Mrs. Noragbon during the commissioning of first phase of 100 units in Emotan Gardens Estate at Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State.

Welcoming the Vice President to the state and the estate, Governor Obaseki said: “This is cluster one of Emotan Gardens, whose foundation you laid a few months ago.”

Emotan Gardens is an initiative of the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led government developed through a joint-venture partnership between Mixta Africa, a renowned real estate developer and Edo Development and Property Agency (EDPA).

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the development was signed in May 2018 with Mixta Africa had a delivery timeline of 12 months for the first phase.

However, this was delivered well ahead of schedule.

Commissioning the first phase of the estate, Osinbajo said: “It is my pleasure to officially commission cluster one of the Emotan Gardens Estate for immediate occupation by the first occupant and the winner of EDOBEST programme.”

Obaseki said the goal of Mixta Africa, the developer of the estate, is for subscribers to move into the property as soon as possible and that they inhabit a safe, serene estate that meets their needs.

“The first 100 of the houses are ready for inauguration. As a government, we have bought 10 of the houses, while about 50 of the houses have been sold to the public,” he said.

  • Housing reform will drive Edo’s economic rejuvenation – Obaseki

Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has described the 1, 800-unit Emotan Gardens project being developed in partnership with MIXTA Africa, as a project that will stimulate economic growth in the state.

The housing project is part of project billed to be showcased alongside other reforms embarked upon by the Governor Obaseki administration at the 27th edition of the Edo National Association Worldwide (ENAW) convention, in Canada.

He said, “From our strategic vision, we envisage Edo State as that state in Nigeria that offers opportunities to all Nigerians to aspire and attain their aspirations. Specifically, we are creating a society in which people can live in peace and harmony.”

On the Emotan Gardens project, he said, “This project is going to be of huge benefit to the economy of the state; almost 80 per cent of what is required or what will be used to build the Estate is going to be sourced from Edo State. From the cement, to the steel and rods that will be used, will be manufactured here. The sand, gravel, granite, and all other such materials will be obtained here. Tiles, sanitary fittings, are all manufactured in Edo State.

The glass, the aluminium profiles, the roofing sheets, the lumber for the roofing are all made here, and of course the labour. So, almost 80 percent of what will be required to build this estate will be sourced locally.”

The governor said the estate project, “is going to be a large-gated community with lots of amenities, serviced with electricity 24/7; it is going to have metered water supply, security and entertainment around it. There is going to be shopping mall and arena, and other facilities like healthcare centre and a school. It would provide perhaps the kind of quality living that our people are aspiring to, but most importantly, it will be affordable.”

He said that the state government intends to use the project to grow a new set of artisanal manpower and experts in building, that will be the envy of all, noting, “The project will be quite impactful. But more importantly, it will help us to train a whole new generation of artisans, construction workers, professionals in construction industry, who we hope will now be pioneers in developing many more estates in the state.”

On creating access to the estate, he said “The Estate is located on Sokponba Road and one of the main arteries of Benin City. Our plan is to expand and dualise that road so that access into the estate will be smooth. We also plan to build another artery road behind the estate to also help in easing traffic flow into and out of the housing estate.

Noting that Emotan Gardens is one among many innovations in the state, he said, “We are having a revolution in the education sector as well, with Edo-BEST. There is also the Edo-Health Improvement Programme (Edo-HIP) in the health sector.

  • Obaseki showcases 1800 Emotan Gardens, land, education reforms

With less than four weeks to the 27th edition of the Edo National Association Worldwide (ENAW) Convention, holding in Toronto, Canada, the Edo State Government is set to parade her achievements in the housing, education and other sectors at the event.

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, will lead the state’s delegation to the Toronto convention, which has become the single largest assemblage of Edo professionals and experts living and working in the diaspora, and forms a large part of the state’s critical mass.

At a strategy meeting between representatives of MIXTA Africa, the joint venture partner in the development of the 1800-unit Emotan Gardens, and representatives of the state government, Executive Chairman, Edo Development and Property Agency (EDPA), Isoken Omo, assured that a mix of engagement strategies would be deployed in the state government’s effort to meet the housing and other needs of Edo people in the diaspora.

“The Edo State Government and her partners are upbeat about the Emotan Gardens and similar housing projects coming on stream soon. It is an opportunity many of our people have been waiting for to acquire decent housing through a very transparent process devoid of encumbrances,” Omo said.

She explained that “the appeal of Emotan Gardens has been phenomenal, as would-be subscribers are just waiting for us to open sales. Governor Obaseki is passionate about this product and will be exhibiting it at the ENAW Convention.”

Also, at the meeting, Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Communication Strategy, Crusoe Osagie, said “the governor will also be showcasing the technology-based teaching method, which is a component of the Edo State Basis Education Sector Transformation (Edo-BEST) initiative.”

The governor’s aide added that “Edo is the first and only state that has deployed the technology in public primary schools in Nigeria.”

According to him, “Another sector that will feature in the governor’s presentation at the ENAW Convention is the peace being enjoyed by developers following the signing of the Private Property Protection Law, which has abolished the activities of Community Development Association (CDAs).

“The sanity in the built sector now is beyond compare and we are happy to report a new era devoid of crisis over land and building construction across the state.

“The abolition of CDAs was thought impossible considering the influence the members weighed and many Edo people could not build houses because of the activities of these misguided youths.”

The four-day Toronto convention, the 27th in the series, will hold from August 31 – September 3.

  • Osinbajo commends private sector-led economic expansion in Edo

…lauds Obaseki on 1800-unit Emotan Gardens project

The Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo on Thursday in Edo State, commended the private sector-led economic expansion in Edo State under Governor Godwin Obaseki.

Osinbajo gave the commendation at the groundbreaking ceremony of the 1800 housing-unit Emotan Gardens, in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State.

He said, “It is good to see the great and dynamic work the governor is doing. I was in Auchi recently to commission the Edo Fertiliser and Chemical Company Ltd. I was in this local government for the Benin Industrial Park. I commend the governor and MIXTA Africa for this excellent idea.”

He lauded the governor’s investment drive and the increased participation of the private sector in the state’s economy.

Chairman, Board of Directors, MIXTA Africa, Eddy Eguavoen, said that the firm was excited about the partnership with the Edo State Government on the project, noting that from his experience with other governments across Africa, Edo State government’s support for the private sector is unparallel.

According to him, “Our experience has been remarkable. I want to assure Nigerians and those in the diaspora that this project will be delivered with the quality and standards that MIXTA Africa is known for.”

Governor Obaseki said that the project is the realisation of his campaign to turn the state into an economic hub, noting that the project is in line with the pledge to revive the state’s economy.

He said, “I promised to create 200,000 jobs in the first instance, and some of them were to be in agriculture and construction, among others.

“We realised that housing is also key. Hence, we have re-enacted the Edo Development and Property Agency (EDPA) law and set up a new management. This project is a reflection of the new direction.”

Noting that the state has proven that much can be achieved with the private sector, he said, “I am happy that we have proven that it can be done.

Obaseki added, “This building was put up in record time. I assure you that 80 per cent of materials used for this project was manufactured in Edo State. They will be used for the entire project.

“We are starting a new paradigm. We expect that the houses will sell from between N3 million to N12 million. We are praticalising policies being enunciated in Abuja.”

Former Governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, noted that the Vice President’s visits to Edo State indicate that the Edo economy is on track with Obaseki as governor.

Oshiomhole maintained that the VP’s visits, the third since Obaseki assumed office, have always been to commission or kick-start economic projects that will propel growth and development and not for tea party.

“These visits confirm that Obaseki is building on the foundation I have laid for the growth and development of the state.

“I am happy because those that have doubt about our governor now know that we have a credible and a performing governor who is building on our development.”

Oshiomhole added that the governor had assured that he would concentrate on the economy and create jobs for Edo youths, noting “this he has been doing, and has attracted private investors to the state”.

The Vice President also launched the South-South Innovation Hub at the Edo Innovates facility. He also attended the Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Clinic, where he and the governor had a chat with Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and beneficiaries of the Federal Government’s Social Investment Programme (SIP).

The project is going to be a major pull for residents and those in the Diaspora to invest in bespoke real estate in Benin.

We are sourcing materials for this project within the state, which is quite remarkable, as this means that the building will be quite affordable at the end of the day.

“We assure that some level of structure would be on ground for the ceremony by the Vice President. This is to show how serious the state government and MIXTA Africa are to deliver on the project.”

Head, Sales and Marketing, MIXTA Africa, Korede Lawrence-Salu, said MIXTA Africa is impressed with the partnership, and promised that it would work round the clock to deliver on the project, assuring on delivery of high quality, valuable housing stock.

According to him, “after we sealed the deal to construct the 1,800-unit project, we have been inundated with enquiries from those willing to have a stake. So we are confident about this project. We have recorded high interest, especially among Edo people in the diaspora too.”

  • Mixta Africa takes WAKAA to London

Mixta Africa takes WAKAA to London

After its successful run last December,  in Lagos, Bolanle Austen-Peters Productions’ Wakaa!, will hit London’s West End for five days – July 21 till 25 – with seven shows.

This first foreign performance of the musical is supported by Africa’s leading Spain-based real estate firm, Mixta Africa.

Mixta Africa Chairman/ CEO, Deji Alli made this known at a joint press conference in Lagos with Bolanle Austin-Peters Production, (BAP) the award-winning production firm that also produced the popular Saro The Musical.

According to Mixta Africa Communications Manager, Imma Puche, ‘’We are proud to be the lead sponsor of Wakaa! The Musical.’  Wakaa! is an original African export that tells the African story, the African way. It illustrates the  reality of the typical African youth who is looking for a way out of Africa and failing to see the opportunities that exist in here.

He added: “When BAP Productions approached us about their intention to take Wakaa! to the global stage, it was easy for us to connect with, firstly, because we want to support the arts, an industry with immense potential. Our support also demonstrates what Mixta Africa is about: harnessing opportunities, which we do by building communities across Africa,” he said.

Wakaa! The Musical is a play about the trials, successes and experiences of young graduates with varied background.A wager between them after graduation has a twist when the realities of life and the folly of their choices hit them. The story reveals the struggle and challenge young people face in present-day Africa and abroad. Wakaa The Musical takes you on an emotional roller coaster and is a strong satire of the Nigeria’s politics.

Mixta Nigeria Managing Director, Mr. Kola Ashiru-Balogun, said Mixta’s support for Wakaa on the London project is also well– aligned with our strategy for the Diaspora market. “As you know, the African real estate sector offers huge opportunities for investment: right from affordable homes to luxury homes. There is a very strong African presence in London and we want to use this medium to reach out to them about the opportunities back home,” Ashiru-Balogun added.

On taking Nigeria’s first musical to London, Austen-Peters, said: “We should start exporting products, especially culture, from Nigeria and our musicals present us that opportunity. Creating jobs has always been my primary motivation. For example, previously outsourced cottage industries such as costume designing and training for technical roles are now being done in-house. We are birthing industries and developing talent that can rival any of the big institutions in the world.”

As part of the sponsorship, Mixta Africa will  host a real estate investment cocktail on the July 22 at the Pullman Hotel. It will also host Africans living in London on July 31 at a family fun day event which promises to be home away from home.
