He expressed dismay at the rising rate of poverty in Nigeria, saying that the issue will have devastating consequences on the global community if not addressed.

Moghalu said that “I am hopeful that we can defuse the Nigerian poverty time bomb because Nigerians are not poor. We are only impoverished by our lazy rulers. Nigerian youths are not the lazy ones. Pretend- leaders who cannot promote opportunities for the youths are the lazy ones.”

The YPP presidential flagbearer will also hold a town-hall meeting in London themed Nigeria, Stand Up! on Saturday, 22 September, 2018, where he will engage with Nigerians in the diaspora speaking to them about his presidential candidacy and what he has planned to include them better into Nigerian system.

“In accepting the presidential ticket of this great party, I stand here before you to say that Nigeria is fully capable of achieving greatness at home and abroad in our lifetimes.

“But this cannot happen with the normal way of doing things, the so-called Nigerian way.”

  • Why all Nigerians must be involved in politics, says Moghalu

A presidential aspirant, Prof. Kingsley Moghalu,  has called on all Nigerians to be involved in politics in order to effect  the desired  change in the country.

Moghalu, a former Deputy Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) , spoke yesterday at a book reading event organised by the  Ibadan School of Government and Public Policy (ISGPP).

The ISGPP Book Readers’ Club was inaugurated on August 8.

Moghalu’s book, ‘Build Innovate and Grow ‘(B.I.G), was the first to be read.

The author  said the book, which  had four parts spread across 25 chapters, was  seeking to provide answers to the myriads of challenges facing Nigeria.

He said the book was a product of his 17 years experience at the United Nations and five  years at the CBN.

Moghalu  added that the book was focused  on leadership and governance, nation building, economy and foreign policy.

“Politics first defines the human condition in any society. How it is managed and run, whether it has good outcome, free or fair among others;  these determine  whether a society can prosper.”

  • Moghalu: I’m a leader, not politician

A presidential aspirant of Young Progressive Party (YPP), Prof Kingsley Moghalu, has said he has no interest in becoming a politician but a leader.

He said there should be no retreat or surrender in the quest to take back the nation from “old and recycled politicians who have no souls”.

The YPP aspirant spoke during the “To Build a Nation (TBAN)” town hall meeting at the National Centre for Women Development in Garki, Abuja, the nation’s capital.

The former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) also said next year’s election will be a defining moment in the nation’s history.

According to him, Nigerians will have to “make a choice between poverty and prosperity, stability and lack of cohesion as well as between security and insecurity”.

He urged Nigerians to prepare to send old politicians into retirement in next year’s general elections by voting away such leadership.

The YPP aspirant advised voters to get their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) to vote out bad leaders.

Decrying the absence of good leaders with a worldview, Moghalu said: “We will rebuild this country into a great nation. We will set out a national ambition, a world view for this country and we will no longer continue to worship the God of small things, such as oil and tribalism.”

The presidential aspirant promised to run an innovation-led and development-driven country, while also growing the economy and creating jobs by launching a N1 trillion venture capital fund to invest in new businesses for young entrepreneurs.

If elected President, Moghalu said the Federal Government under him would set up skills acquisition centres in all the 774 local government areas across the country so that citizens can acquire the skills necessary to prosper.

  • Coalition lacks agenda for Nigerians, says Moghalu

Presidential aspirant of the Young Progressive Party (YPP) Kingsley Moghalu, has described the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) as lacking the agenda to improve the lives of Nigerians.

In a statement yesterday, Moghalu said: “It is interesting to note the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and over 30 other parties. On the face of it, it is a legitimate move; after all, we are in a democracy.  However, we must be clear about what it represents: power for the sake of power, without any real agenda to improve the lives of Nigerians.

“The question Nigerians must ask is this: How have the parties involved changed? Has PDP purged itself of its bad actors that led to its downfall in the first place? Have these other parties demonstrated any true commitment to an open or transparent democracy? asks Moghalu.

He added:  “We’ve watched this film before and know how it ends. For those who want a true, lasting democracy, now is the time to join forces and square up against the old guard. It is time for those who truly want to fix this nation to realise we must build a coalition of progressives that can truly lead this nation, beyond any one person, beyond any one group. This is about a Nigeria that works for all. This is a Nigeria that – for once – will deliver victory for the people,” he said.

  • Shuaibu, Abdullahi, Moghalu return to NWC

    •Delegates vote out Izunaso, Ramatu
    •Kwankwaso: why I stayed out

AFTER keenly contested elections, 33 more candidates emerged as members of the new National Working Committee( NWC) of the All Progressives Congress( APC).

The new officers yesterday joined the new APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole and 25 others, who were elected unopposed on Saturday –  the first day of the party’s National Convention.

With the conclusion of the election, 59 members of the NWC have been duly elected.

Of the 59 slots, 26 candidates were elected unopposed.

But the election led to the return of some former NWC members, including the National Secretary, Mallam Mai Mala Buni; Senator Lawal Shuaibu (Deputy National Chairman, North); the National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi; the National Auditor, Chief George Moghalu and the National Vice Chairman (North-West), Alh. Inuwa Abdulkadir.

Some former NWC members and APC leaders, rated as bigwigs, were however voted out by delegates including former National Organising Secretary Senator Osita Izunaso, ex-National Women Leader Hajiya Ramatu Tijjani and Farouk Adamu Aliyu.

The outcome of the convention indicated that the consensus option adopted by APC governors and endorsed by President Muhammadu Buhari and other party leaders was strictly adhered to by all groups in the party.

A governor said: “We had a consensus list based on fault lines in the party and we thank God that all governors and party leaders kept faith with our agreement.

“We accommodated those who have grievances and we dropped some candidates like Izunaso and Ramatu Tijjani as sacrifices for the unity of the party.

“We will use this benchmark henceforth in reuniting APC and charting a new course for this great party. We want to reconcile as fast as possible because presidential and other primaries for 2019 poll are around the corner.

“We hope to revisit our coalition and make it to work better for all caucuses in APC.”

But’ a former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso yesterday said he boycotted the convention of APC to avoid causing embarrassment to the party.

He said his group was unhappy that all the congresses it conducted were not recognised by the dissolved National Working Committee (NWC), which was headed by ex-National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun.

Kwankwaso, who made the clarifications in a statement in Abuja, said his presence and that of his loyalists will not be in the interest of the convention.

He said: “The All Progressives Congress (APC) group in Kano, which I am opportune to lead will like to congratulate and felicitate with the newly elected Chairman Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and his newly elected members of the Executive Council.

“I wish to inform the leadership of the party and the public that we had wanted to be part of the National Convention but regrettably all the congresses that we conducted at the wards, local government councils and at the state level were not recognised by the outgoing National Executive Council of the party.

“Therefore, I felt that presenting ourselves at such an important event will not be in the overall interest of the entire convention, that is assuming we are allowed access into the convention ground.”

  • Moghalu vows to fight poverty, drug abuse

A PRESIDENTIAL aspirant on the platform of Young Progressive Party (YPP), Prof.  Kingsley Moghalu, has promised to reposition Nigeria’s economy and fight social vices like drug abuse and poverty, if voted into office in 2019.

Moghalu, a former Deputy Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), faulted economic and social contract policies of the present administration and insisted that a lot need to be done to put Nigeria in its pride of place as “the giant of Africa”.

According to Moghalu, who spoke during a town hall meeting with his Kano supporters at Aminu Kano Centre for Democratic Studies (Mambayya House), said the time has come to redeem Nigeria.

The aspirant said: “This is the time to heal Nigeria. This is the time to wage war against poverty and drug abuse. This is the time to rebuild a nation and take it on the right part of economic prosperity.

“This is the time for a technocrat that has physical and mental energy, a visionary leader that will not discriminate or marginalise against religious or ethnic divide to take over the mantle of leadership.”

He promised to introduce a N1 trillion equity capital fund to boost entrepreneurial capital economy among teeming unemployed youths where they would engage in massive skills acquisition programme that would make them self-reliant and responsible citizens.

At Emir of Kano’s palace, when he visited the monarch, Muhammad Sanusi ll, Moghalu lamented that the rate of poverty in Nigeria was a serious national security threat that could not be overlooked by any serious government.

He said he was aspiring for the office of president for three reasons: to build a nation that would unite its citizens devoid of their religion and ethnic differences, to revive the nation’s economy and restore the country’s lost glory.

“The rate of poverty, unemployment and drug abuse, especially among youth and women, is getting worst by the day. My vision is to wage a decisive war against these vices. I have an economic plan that is independent from oil. I have a one trillion ventured capital economic plan that will provide job opportunities to youths and women,” he stated.

Emir Sanusi urged politicians to ensure that the 2019 general election was peaceful and noting that peace was the key to development and progress of every nation.

Emir Sanusi also admonished politicians to allow electorates to elect leaders of their choice, saying under a democratic regime, everyone has a right to elect leaders of his choice.

He added that it was not the contest that matters, rather the contribution a contestant could offer to improve the living standard of the electorates if elected.

  • Moghalu plans N1tr Venture Capital Fund for entrepreneurs

•Takes ‘To Build a Nation Tour’ to Kano

Former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) deputy Governor and Young Progressives Party (YPP) presidential candidate, Kingsley Moghalu, has promised massive investment in entrepreneurship using his planned N1 trillion Venture Capital Fund to be accessed by entrepreneurs.

He disclosed this during his To Build ANation Tour in Kano where he was received by residents of the city who trooped out in large numbers to welcome him.

The YPP Presidential candidate was also welcomed by the Emir of Kano, HRH Muhammadu Sanusi II, in his palace. Representing the spirited drive among Nigerian voters to change the status quo, the former CBN deputy governor was escorted by a large number of members of the Kingsley Moghalu Support Organisation (KIMSO) and To Build A Nation (TBAN) in Kano State.

Speaking during his visit, Moghalu promised massive investment in innovation through the Venture Capital Fund, an economic policy that he emphasized would not be determined or controlled by ethnicity, religion or status. “It is time for a new generation of leaders that are interested in creating a better future for Nigerians. Every young Nigerian can contribute to the development of our great country, but there needs to be opportunity and access to education, skills, and better security to improve their lives.”

The presidential candidate also promised to bring back industries through strategic support for the manufacturing sector in order to create jobs, diversify the economy and promote investment.

In his response, the Emir of Kano welcomed Moghalu and his delegation and recalled the presidential aspirant’s contributions to the successes achieved by the CBN during his tenure as governor.

“Kingsley and the other three deputy governors made important contributions to the bank’s success during my term as governor. In my view, any of those four deputy governors is qualified to hold any leadership position in Nigeria today. There is no question that whatever happens, Kingsley’s participation in Nigerian politics as an aspirant to the highest office of the land has already steered the narrative in the right direction,” said the Emir.

Speaking with participants during the closing ceremony of 1,000 Women Skills Training conducted under the Kingsley Moghalu Women Initiative in partnership with the Isaac Moghalu Foundation, the candidate emphasized that upon becoming President, his administration would combat poverty by providing access to finance and education for women and girls in the country.

Moghalu also paid courtesy visits to the families of the late Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Sule (Dan Masanin Kano) and the late Sheikh Isiyaku Rabiu at their residences.

  • APC convention: Enugu endorses Enukwu, Izunaso, Moghalu for 2nd term

Ahead of  the national convention of the  All Progressives Congress (APC), the Enugu State chapter of the party has endorsed the incumbent National Vice Chairman, South-East, Chief Emma Eneukwu, National Organizing Secretary, Senator Osita Izunaso and National Auditor, George Moghalu for re-election

The endorsement was announced in a communique issued at the end of its meeting held  at the party’s secretariat yesterday.

The state chairman of the party, Dr Ben Nwoye, who read the communique issued at the end of the meeting, which was also attended by the State Working Committee members of the party, said all the existing zoning arrangements of the party remains.

The development is not unconnected to a press statement issued by a group in the state, which is sympathetic to a former Secretary to Enugu State Government, Chief Onyemuche Nnamani and touting him as Eneukwu’s replacement.

But the party said such group should be dis-countenanced as they were merely in a task to destabilise the APC in Enugu State and eventually deny President Muhammadu Buhari votes in 2019.

The communique reads in part: “Chief Hon. Emma Eneukwu having performed excellently well and being an indigene of Udi Local Government Area has the support of the entire Enugu State delegates to the APC national convention.

“That we condemn in totality any attempt by anybody no matter how highly placed to destabilise the agreed zoning arrangement in the state, previously established by leaders of the party in 2014, as it relates to party positions.

“That we commend the national convention committee of the APC in all of its efforts in planning a hitch-free national convention.

“Enugu State APC cannot be cowed by anybody, no matter any previous position you may have held, or the position the person may occupy. We must learn that new leaders must emerge.  We can’t continue to lead this country with our past glory.

“Every day,  new leaders emerge, the world is calling for new leaders. Very recently, President Muhammadu Buhari signed the Not Too Young to Run Bill into law, this shows progressive leadership.

“Those who have been either past governor, past senator or past this or that must allow new leaders to emerge. They  must allow those who are leading well to lead. We cannot be cowed by those who joined us from the PDP.

“If the PDP was a great party, where they had served as either senator or SSG, they should have remained in the PDP. We built the APC, we established the APC in Enugu State. So, we cannot be pushed around.

“People believe that politics is about their village, that politics is about those who bear the same surname with them.

“Today, Enugu State APC has taken a stand, we cannot have a state chairman from Nkanu West and Vice Chairman, from Nkanu West.  It can’t help us in election. People here are not in APC because Buhari won, they have been here even when APC was yet to be accepted, when people called us all sorts of names, including Boko Haram. Some of us were almost ostracized. We cannot, therefore, at this stage allow latter day converts push us aside.

“For emphasis, Emma Enuekwu, George Moghalu, and  Osita Izunaso are our choice.  We are 100 percent behind our leaders,” it further stated.
