A son of former military President Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB), Mr. Mohammed Babangida, has denied rejecting the recent appointment President Bola Ahmed Tinubu gave him as the Chairman of the Bank of Agriculture (BOA).

The Federal Government announced the appointment last week alongside seven others.

The social media was awash yesterday with a letter purportedly written by Babangida rejecting his appointment.

In the letter, purportedly written to President Tinubu and leaked to some social media platforms, Babangida expressed appreciation for the confidence reposed in him but cited personal and professional reasons for turning down the role

But in a swift reaction through the Ibrahim Babangida Media Office in Minna, the Niger State capital, Babangida described the circulating letter as fake and politically motivated.

In a telephone interview, the spokesman of the Babangida Media Office, Mahmud Abdullahi, dismissed the letter as fake.

He said when Mohammed saw the purported letter of his rejection, he waved it off as the handiwork of mischief makers.

Abdullahi said: “It is a concocted letter from disgruntled elements. I am ready to serve as the chairman of the Bank of Agriculture.”

The spokesman stressed that after properly scrutinising the purported letter of rejection, “we discovered that the signature on the letter was not Mohammed Babangida’s. We also discovered that the telephone number on the letterhead does not correlate with his number.

“There is no truth in that letter. The members of the public should disregard it”.

  • Happy moments for MOHAMMED BABANGIDA

IT is no longer news that the 14-year-old marriage of scion of the Ibrahim Babangida’s dynasty, Mohammed, to one of the daughters of the Borno State-born billionaire, Mohammed Indimi, Rahama, has crashed. The gist is that after several physical and emotional tortures, Moha, as he is fondly called, has gained the custody of his four children.

In the recent past, Rahama has come on social media to allege Mohammed has been a threat to her life and he has allegedly being trying to take their children forcefully from her; however, some family sources alleged that it was blatant lies.

Also, she had taken Mohammed to seven other courts during this period over the same matter; Sharia Court in Minna, Sharia Court of Appeal, Minna, High Court, Minna Area Court, Abuja Upper Sharia Court, Abuja High Court Abuja and Court of Appeal, Abuja.

With full custody that the court has granted her estranged hubby, Rahama may risk going to jail if Moha decides to pursue the matter further, because she took two of be children out of the country without the knowledge of their father.

In a swift reaction, Rahama took to the social media, Instagram, insisting that her ex manipulated the Sharia court to get custody of their kids. “Well, I won my case in Minna last year. But victory was short lived when Mohammad Babangida refused to accept his defeat. He brought his personal judge to hear the matter again in the same court instead of going to the Sharia Court of Appeal. I’m thinking since I’m done in Minna, I can finally move on with my life. Unfortunately the case was relisted. I told the court I’m not interested in doing the case, lo and behold, the judge forced me to be the plaintiff. As plaintiff, my lawyer said we are still not interested in the case. Fine, I’m forced to do a case that I know they have no jurisdiction over, against my will. Long story short, the judge said I’m not truthful because I have a marriage certificate. What has customary law to do with sharia law? This man changed the sharia law to fit his client. He gave him exclusive custody of all the four kids. Mind you, sharia gives my mum custody if I’m unfit to mother my children. I will continue to fight till my last breath. EFCC recovers N102m for Bank of Agriculture

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission ( EFCC ), Kaduna zonal office, has recovered N102 million diverted from the Bank of Agriculture ( BOA ) in Kebbi.

A statement by the spokesman of the commission, Mr Wilson Uwujaren, said the funds were diverted by beneficiaries of the Central Bank of Nigeria ( CBN ) Anchor Borrowers Programme, disbursed by BOA.

Uwujaren said so far a total of N297 million had been recovered by the commission in favour of BOA in Kaduna and Kebbi states.

The Head of Operations of the Kaduna office, Ibrahim Bappa, formally presented a bank draft for the N102 million to one Mohammed Babangida, who represented the BOA Managing Director.

Bappa assured the bank that the EFCC would continue to assist it in the discharge of its statutory duties.

He, however, decried the worrisome trend in which beneficiaries of the scheme diverted the funds, and urged the BOA to ensure proper orientation before loans were disbursed.

Responding, Babangida lauded the efforts of the EFCC in the recovery, saying the action had restored confidence in the bank.

The EFCC spokesman said investigations into the matter began in 2017 following a complaint.

According to him, the complaint bordered on the diversion of part of the N12 billion disbursed to some rice farmers through BOA in which Kebbi acted as uptaker for the purchase of paddy rice.

“In the course of investigations, it was revealed that some rice mills in Kebbi collected bags of rice but failed to remit the total agreed sum.

“So far, the Kaduna zonal office of the EFCC has been able recover N297 million in favour of the Anchor Borrowers Programme in Kaduna and Kebbi States,” he said.

  • Mohammed Babangida’s large heart

    Mohammed Babangida’s large heart

Mohammed the scion of the former military President Ibrahim Babangida’s dynasty, is proving day by day that he is a chip of the old block.

The younger Babangida, we gathered, gave out three bedroom flats each to all the pioneer staff of El-Amin International School founded by his late mum, Maryam, many years ago.

The polo-loving dude who is the executive director of the school has continued to keep the memory of his late mum alive through his kind gesture to the institution.

  • Mohammed Babangida in high spirits

The more he tries to get his activities off the spotlight, the more they come under the searchlight of the public. Mohammed Babangida is a gold fish that has no hiding place. Forget the tales of his governorship ambition in Niger State, where there has been sustained pressure to drag him into the murky waters of politics.

But his love for polo is one thing that is never in doubt. Joy was palpable on the face of the captain of Fifth Chukker Polo team last Saturday as his team won the prestigious MTN African Patrons Polo Competition in Kaduna. Mohammed is not just a polo lover; he plays ‘the game of kings’ with a lot of dexterity and this has earned him global recognition..

  • Mohammed Babangida keeps them guessing

Muhammed Babangida is not a man of many words. In fact, most reports about him have been based more on what he did than what he said. It is within the foregoing prism that one can situate the ongoing speculations about his plan for 2015.

Talks about his rumoured ambition for the number one seat in Niger State have been circulating in the media for some time. Some have even mentioned a former senator as his deputy. In spite of all the talks, Mohammed, the heir apparent to former Military President Ibrahim Babangida, has maintained a silence that has continued to confound many in the politics of Niger State.

Although there was a report a few months ago to the effect that the energetic polo player did not plan to contest the governorship election, the polity has rested from the rumour. IBB’s eldest son, known for his disarming humility, has simply kept himself busy with running his businesses and travelling to different parts of the world to strike lucrative deals.

Muhammad Babangida currently serves as special advisor to Santa Isabel Petroleum Company, which is a subsidiary of the China National Petroleum Company. He is responsible for negotiating and coordinating with appropriate governmental agencies on behalf of Santa Isabel in Equatorial Guinea where Santa Isabel operates.

However, political watchers say his silence should not be taken for lack of interest.

At the moment, he is one of the new faces dotting the political landscape in the North and there are serious speculations about his quest to occupy the number one position in Niger State.
