    Monarch cautions against protest

    • Says Lagosians ‘ll not tolerate destruction of facilities

    The Gbadewolu of Araromi, Oba Lukman Adebambo, has called for calm and advised against participating in nationwide protests.

    The monarch stressed the importance of maintaining peace and order amid growing socio-economic challenges.

    Oba Adebambo urged the agitators to seek peaceful and constructive ways to express their grievances.

    According to him, “It is true that there is hardship in the country, but it is not limited to Nigeria, other countries are also facing similar experiences.”

    The monarch emphasised that protest could escalate into conflicts, causing harm to people and property.

    “Protest is not going to solve the crisis at hand. People should remember what happened during the last #EndSARS protest, a lot of things were destroyed, lots of companies and government properties were destroyed.

    “These are also part of what is affecting us today; the destroyed properties were built with public funds, the money that were supposed to be used for other projects are being used to refurbish those properties,” he said.

    The monarch said that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is  aware of the current hardship and he is doing everything possible to bring down food prices and commodities.

    He added that “whenever there is a protest, infrastructure in Lagos State bear the brunt. People should remember that Lagos State accommodates all and indigenes should be made to regret their accomodative gesture.

    “We will, henceforth, not tolerate destruction of infrastructure under the guise of protest.”

    Oyo youths seek monarch’s enthronement

    Youths of Eruwa in Ibarapa East Local Government of Oyo State, under the aegis of Eruwa-Ojoko Youth Development Mission, have demanded the enthronement of new Eleruwa of Eruwa.

    This is happening almost five years after the stool of Eleruwa of Eruwa was declared vacant, following a Supreme Court verdict, which ordered the sack of Oba Samuel Adebayo Adegbola, after spending over 20 years on the throne.

    The youth, who barricaded major roads leading to the town from neigbouring cities and towns with bonfire and carried placards, called on Governor Seyi Makinde and other relevant authorities to expedite action on the process of enthroning a traditional ruler as soon as possible.

    Speaking at the Eleruwa palace, the President, Eruwa-Ojoko Youth Development Mission Movement, Kunle Adebola, said: “We, the entire members of Eruwa-Ojoko Youth Development Mission, on behalf of the whole populace of Eruwa land, through this peaceful protest, appeal to relevant stakeholders involved in the process of enthroning a new Eleruwa to please expedite action on the process.

    Monarch challenges CIoD on economy

    A traditional ruler, HRH George Eze Nwankwo, has told the Chartered Institute of Directors, Nigeria (CIoD) to seek ways of increasing production as the only panacea of stabilising the economy.

    He said the country’s currency and economy could only maintain a consistent boom if the directors help the federal government in moving the economy from consumption to production.

    The Igwe Ezinnia 1 of Okara Orba Ancient Kingdom, Enugu State, said the institute should engage the Federal Government, make recommendations and initiate activities required to build the economy.

    He spoke during the Investiture of the 4th Chairman of the institute’s Port Harcourt zone, Dr. Innocent Akuvue held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

    Eze Nwankwo told the directors to seek an end to the culture of consumption and promote a production driven economy as the permanent solution to strengthening the naira.

    He insisted that any economy based on consumption would always be unstable, adding that the country’s high level of consumption was no longer sustainable.

    The king urged the institute to deploy its network and experience to challenge the apex government to begin to chart a new course before things got out of hand.

    He commended the new Port Harcourt zone’s chairman describing him as one with the midas touch.

    The monarch said: “Having known Dr. Innocent for a pretty long time I will say that this institute has made the right choice. Notwithstanding in Nigeria today our economy is very unstable.

    “The exchange rate you cannot determine. You are all members of the institute of directors, the greatest challenge our economy is suffering is because we are 90, 95 percent consumer nation.

    Monarch confers chieftaincy title on Indian philanthropist

    The Oba of Odi-Olowo in Mushin, Lagos, Oba Sikirullah Ayinde, has conferred a chieftaincy tittle of ‘Boba Selu Odi-Olowo’ to an Indian philanthropist, Mr. Krishnamurthy Kannah.

    According to Oba Ayinde, this was done in recognition of Sivashankar’s humanitarian contribution to the community for 53 years.

    The conferment which took place at the Oba’s palace in Odi-Olowo, had in attendance dignitaries from India and community heads.

    Kannah thanked the community for finding the honour.

    “This is my first chieftaincy title. I am so happy to be a Nigerian. I am used to Nigerian culture and the climate. The whole thing was arranged by my chairman, a retired Captain. We’ve been together for the past 42 years. This is my 53 years in Nigeria. He is a source of encouragement. For me, simplicity is the best attribute anyone can possess,” he said.

    Kannah’s daughter in-law Mahalakshminayaki, described him, as a philanthropist, adding that the family would serve the community holistically.

    “My father in-law has lived in this country for 53 years. He has done so many good things to the people. He is a big philanthropist. He has offered scholarships to students. We would do more. We will support women and children education.

    “We are ready to provide whatever the community requires from us. We will provide them. We will look into children’s education. We are going to provide them with books. Serving the community is our utmost priority. We will also look into hospitals, supply medicine and medical support,” she noted.

    A Consultant in charge of Revenue in Mushin Local Government and Chairman, University of Lagos Akoka (UNILAG) Alumni Lagos state chapter, Owoeye Adedeji, described the tittle as a significant one

    “The tittle is very significant for a man who has contributed to the community for years.

    As a bonafide Odi-Olowo son, I feel there’s need for development to come to my local government. That was why I decided to be part of it. As time goes, you would see his good works.

    “Whatever they can do to uplift Odi-Olowo, will be welcomed. It’s not about government, it’s about individuals and every entity that resides in this community,” he said.

    Kamarudeen Olatunde, a retired captain, said: “I am happy because he deserves it. For the years he has been in this country, he has contributed greatly to the development of this country, He will manage the tittle very well because he’s a very generous man. He’s a philanthropist. He has good intentions. He’s going to contribute greatly to the development of Odi-Olowo. I also give credit of today to Owoeye.”

    Monarch marks anniversary, reiterates quest for community development

    For riverine folks of Ladaba community of Epe, Lagos State, who witnessed the first year coronation anniversary of HRM Oba Nureni Odedina, Ward C1, Epe division, the Oniladaba of Ladaba kingdom, the fond memories of the joyous occasion will last longer still.

    Hints that the day was going to be a momentous one was apparent as friends and well-wishers who thronged the palace auditorium were treated to the best of local dishes, choice wines even as traditional and contemporary musicians serenaded the audience to a medley of songs.

    Upbeat, Oba Odedina, who also doubles as Alugbin I of Ladaba kingdom, was effusive with praises, as he expressed profound gratitude to his subjects for their support and cooperation thus far, noting that this was self-evident in the steady progress recorded during the past 12 months of his reign as the paramount ruler of the town.

    “When I ascended the throne of my ancestors over a year ago, I had mixed feelings about what fate had in store for me. But looking back now, I can only thank the good people of Ladaba for their steadfast commitment to the peace and stability of our ancestral home.”

    While appreciating all his subjects for their overwhelming support and cooperation thus far, Oba Odedina, however, said, it was very disheartening to note that some criminal elements, especially land speculators operating under the shadow of darkness, have been perpetuating all forms of heinous crimes capable of breaching public peace, a development, he stressed must be put to an end.

    He said, “I hereby sound a final note of warning to all old and new landowners to come forward for proper verification and identification of their property from now till the end of May, or risk forfeiture.

    “These measures have become inevitable to weed out all the criminal elements within and around our neighbourhood.”

    Oba Odedina, who reiterated his commitment to the socioeconomic growth and development of the town, hinted of plans by the traditional council of chiefs to collaborate with some private sector partners to set up cottage industries in the town in order to provide gainful employment to the teeming youths population.

    “If our youths are gainfully employed, they will have no room to get involved in any form of vices for as they say an idle mind is the devil’s workshop. So, we are going to ensure that all our youths have something meaningful to do and ultimately be able to contribute their own quota to the development of our community,” Oba Odedina stressed.

    The Ojora of Ijora and Iganmu, Oba Abdulfatai Aromire, has promised support to residents both morally and financially.

    Speaking during a Ramadan lecture at his palace, the monarch said he will continue to support the government in promoting culture, customs, knowledge and fighting crimes.

    “I will continue to support government in ensuring peace prevails in my domain. I will not tolerate a breach of law and whoever is caught threatening security of other residents will be handed over to the appropriate security agency for prosecution,” he said.

    Aromire urged Muslim faithful to use the message of Ramadan to change the condition for better.

    “Let me call on brothers and sisters in Islam to continue to pray for the success of the administration as it is trying to tackle insurgency, corruption, kidnapping and economic sabotage.

    “We should pray for the peace, progress and development of our state and the country. May Allah bring to an end the senseless killings and kidnapping in this country,” he added.

    Soldiers killing: Delta monarch whisked to Abuja

    The traditional ruler of Ewu-Urhobo Kingdom, Ughelli South LGA, His Royal Majesty, Clement Oghenerukevwe Ikolo, Urhukpe 1, who voluntarily surrendered to the Delta police command, yesterday, has been flown to Abuja, The Nation has learnt.

    He was escorted to the Asaba International Airport by the Commanding Officer, 63 Brigade Nigeria Army Asaba, the Delta state police commissioner, and other senior military officers.

    He boarded Air Peace Airline with the plane departing Asaba Airport at about 9:10 am to Abuja.

    The monarch released a statement to reporters where he reiterated his innocence, adding that he was shocked to be included among persons declared wanted by the Defence Headquarters.

    Monarch seeks help to stop ‘trespasser’

    Traditional ruler of Topo, a Badagry suburb in Lagos State, Chief Oluwadami Avoseh, has appealed to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to stop an expatriate from claiming Topo Island, “our ancestral land.”

    He soke yesterday at a news briefing, saying: “The island is where we have our coconut. It belonged to our forefathers.

    “It was leased out to the Catholic Church in the 18th century for 90 years.

    “There was an MoU between our ancestors and missionaries, which led to leasing out of the island to them.

    “Coconut tree was first planted on Topo Island by Roman Catholic missionaries in 1845.

    “The lease expired years ago, but surprisingly, one expatriate, a businessman, claimed to own the island.

    “Since the lease expired, we have not given the island to any person because it is serves as our tourist attraction.”

    The monarch urged Sanwo-Olu to intervene in ther matter.

    “We have not sold the island to anyone; it still belongs to the people. We will not allow anyone to claim what belongs to us.

    “Lagos State should call this man to order and allow peace to reign,” he said.
