    • Okpebholo reaffirms support for Presco

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has assured Presco Plc of the state government’s support, stressing that the Heartbeat State remains a prime destination for agricultural investment.

He spoke yesterday when he received the management team of Presco, led by its Chairman, Rasheed Sarumi, and the Managing Director, Raji George, on a courtesy visit to Government House, Benin City.

They announced a $100 million Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) by SIAT and its parent company into Presco’s operations, an investment the chairman described as historic and the first of its kind in Nigeria’s agricultural sector.

Okpebholo said Presco has been a long-standing partner in Edo State’s agricultural development and dismissed recent controversies surrounding portions of land for revocation.

“Presco to me has been here for a very long time. Just a few days ago, there was a misunderstanding, which I believe someone tried to politicise. There was nothing in it. There were reasons tied to natural resources why certain areas were reviewed,” he said.

The governor, according to a statement by his Chief Press Secretary Fred Itua, noted that whenever there are issues, his administration prefers dialogue rather than speculation or misinformation.

“If I have anything against you, I will call you. Last time I received complaints from communities on compensation, I called your MD immediately because I believe in addressing issues directly,” he added.

Reaffirming his commitment to agricultural expansion, Okpebholo said upon assuming office, he increased the agriculture allocation in the inherited budget from N5billion to N70 billion, signalling his administration’s determination to drive food security and agro-industrial growth.

“Agricultural revolution is the best way to go, and it aligns perfectly with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. For food security, we must grow what we eat and export what we grow. Edo has fertile land, and your investment here is not a waste,” he stated.

The governor condemned narratives portraying Edo as hostile to investors, describing such claims as misleading and “satanic.”

“I am an investor myself. I cannot be the one sending investors away. That impression is completely wrong. You are here by the grace of God, and you will prosper here,” Okpebholo assured.

Sarumi praised the governor for providing a stable governance structure, improved security, and an enabling environment that encouraged SIAT’s $100 million investment decision.

He noted that Nigeria received only $250 million in FDI this year, making Presco’s share a significant boost to the national economy.

Senior government officials present at the meeting included Deputy Governor Dennis Idahosa; Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilo; Chief of Staff, Mallam Gani Audu; Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Dr. Jerry Uwangue, among others.

The chairman expressed confidence that the new investment will strengthen Presco’s expansion plans and reinforce Edo State’s position as the centre of Nigeria’s agro-industrial revolution.

Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, has sacked Managing Director of Edo State Geographic Information Service (EDOGIS), Mr. Tony Ikpasajah.

Government sources, who confirmed the sack, said Ikpasajah had been issued an official letter relieving him of his appointment.

The sources said the governor was embarrassed that Ikpasajah misled him to revoke statutory Rights of Occupancy of Presco Oil in Ologbo, Ikpoba-Okha Local Government.

Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Musa Ikhilor, in a statement, said Ikpasajah acted unilaterally, without authorisation, and in  disregard for established procedures and the actual number of hectares intended for excision from PRESCO PLC’s total landholding.

The statement said a formal administrative review had been initiated to address the unauthorised actions of the former EDOGIS managing director and to strengthen internal controls and prevent future breaches.

Ikpasajah could not be reached for comments.

NGO hails govt’s decision to disown land revocation

The Coalition for Good Governance and Economic Justice in Africa has lauded Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo for his firm and transparent handling of the controversy surrounding a purported revocation of Presco PLC’s Statutory Right of Occupancy.

In a statement yesterday, the group hailed the governor for distancing his administration from a newspaper publication announcing the alleged revocation; a notice the government has since described as unauthorised, misleading and false.

The coalition in a statement in Abuja by its Country Director, Mr. John Mayaki, said Okpebholo’s response ‘’shows maturity, responsible leadership and a clear commitment to investor’s confidence,” noting that such decisiveness was essential for economic stability and sustainable development in Edo State.

According to the group, the episode could have triggered panic among investors and disrupted agricultural and industrial productivity in the state, but the governor’s quick clarification helped “restore calm, protect livelihood and reaffirm the administration’s respect for the rule of law.”

The coalition welcomed the government’s revelation that the publication was issued unilaterally by the former Managing Director of Edo State Geographic Information Service (EDOGIS), who acted without approval and in violation of established procedures.

It lauded the state for initiating an administrative review to prevent similar breaches in future.

The coalition enjoined stakeholders, particularly in the agricultural and industrial sectors, to continue supporting the government’s efforts to maintain a stable and investor-friendly environment.

It said the swift disowning of the notice confirmed that Edo State under Okpebholo was committed to fairness, legal compliance and protection of strategic economic assets like Presco PLC.

Bandits’ threat: Okpebholo holds high level security meeting

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has held a high-level security meeting with security agencies over threats of bandits’ attack in Edo Central Senatorial district.

The meeting followed a trending video which a self-acclaimed bandit was seen issuing threats and claiming presence around Ekpoma and adjoining communities in the localities.

A statement by Chief Press Secretary to Governor Okpebholo, Fred Itua, said the Governor has been fully briefed on the matter.

Itua said Governor Okpebholo has treated security as a top-tier priority and has not left any stone unturned to confronting emerging threats.

He said the security architecture was designed to ensure early detection, swift response, and sustained pressure against criminal networks.

According to him, “Following the Governor’s latest directive, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), local vigilante formations, and the Edo State Special Security Squad, have commenced intensified operations across forests, boundary communities, and known flashpoints.

“Search-and-comb missions are ongoing, backed by enhanced intelligence gathering and coordinated patrols to deny criminal elements safe haven anywhere within the State.

“Already, significant breakthroughs have been recorded. Arrests have been made in connection with recent security breaches, and several leads are currently being pursued.

“The Government reiterates that these operations are continuous and will not cease until every inch of Edo land; urban centres, rural communities, and transit corridors are fully secured and safe for residents, commuters, and investors.

“Misinformation, panic-driven narratives, and unverified videos should be avoided.

“Governor Okpebholo remains resolute in his commitment to safeguarding lives and property, and his administration will continue to deploy all lawful measures to ensure that criminality has no breathing space in Edo State.”

    • Okpebholo is God’s will for Edo people, says Akpabio

Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has unveiled 30 new tractors, five bulldozers, 150 implements and a low-bed truck.

He said they would expand the state’s  agricultural capacity, enhance productivity and accelerate rural development.

The governor who spoke yesterday in Benin City at the unveiling, asked the Federal Government to begin the processes of repatriating former Governor Godwin Obaseki to answer questions concerning Museum of West African Art (MOWAA).

He said his administration had resolved to ensure clarity and responsibility in the management of public funds.

He said the machinery would expand Edo’s agricultural capacity, enhance productivity and accelerate rural development.

The governor said the acquisition was designed to open thousands of hectares of new farmlands, attract agribusiness investments, reduce post-harvest losses and create sustainable employment opportunities for youths and women.

He said it was a shift from subsistence agriculture to full mechanisation, as well as ensuring the state became a reliable contributor to national food reserves, while reducing the state’s vulnerability to economic shocks.

“This is a strategic investment that will change the trajectory of Edo’s economy. We are laying the foundation for food sufficiency, commercial-scale farming and long-term prosperity for our people.”

Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who inaugurated the tractors, said Federal Government would review Okpebholo’s submissions and assured citizens that due process would guide further actions.

He described Governor  Okpebholo as God’s will for the people of Edo State.

Akpabio thanked the people of the state and Southsouth  for endorsing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for second term.

Akpabio stated this during the unveiling of Agricultural Equipment (Tractors and Bulldozers) day in  Benin, the Edo State capital.

A statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom, quoted Akpabio as saying: “I am very pleased to be here to witness your first year anniversary in office. When I listened to what went wrong in the last administration, after the tenure of Senator Adams Oshiomhole, I wept because that was the same thing I met in my state when I took over as governor in 2007.

“Imagine allocating a paltry N41 million to the Ambrose Alli University as running cost in a year. That cannot even take care of the office of the Vice Chancellor, but under one year of your administration, you turned the situation around and upped the allocation to over N500million per year because you are God’s will for people of Edo, just like what happened to medical students in my state, who couldn’t graduate after spending 14 years in the University due to lack of accreditation.”

Akpabio noted that “I have heard and seen what you have done in the area of education and I am very impressed because when you open the doors of education for the children, you shut the prison doors.

“Under your administration, Edo is rising,  progressing and shinning. You are a unifier because you have been able to work in peace and unity with your deputy, lawmakers and your leaders.

“Just like I brought the first flyover to Akwa Ibom State, you are doing the same, so you are God’s will for the people of Edo. By the time you are through with the people in eight years, there would be no house boys and girls again in Edo State.

“Just like I empowered the women of Akwa Ibom State through WADEP, you have done same by allocating N1billion for our market women to boost the economy of the state from the bottom to the top. I am happy I am witnessing this in Edo under you”.

On the 2027 presidential and national and state assembly elections, Akpabio said: “ One good turn deserves another. Continue to pray and support him to do more for you in the next eight years. I thank the people of Edo and the entire Southsouth region for endorsing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for second term in office. The competition would be rife in terms of votes.

Earlier in his remarks, Governor Okpebholo,  thanked Senator Akpabio and his entourage for honouring his invitation to be part of the one year anniversary of his administration.

  • One year of truth in Edo: Response to Aziegbemi’s misdirected attacks

One year of truth in Edo: Response to Aziegbemi’s misdirected attacks

    By Osagie Ize-Iyamu

Ordinarily, I would not respond to every political commentary, particularly when it comes from individuals whose positions are already well known to the public. However, when statements are released in a manner that may mislead our people or distort recent history, it becomes necessary to provide clarity, not to trade words, but to ensure that the truth is preserved.

I read the recent publication credited to Dr. Tony Aziegbemi, the factional chairman of the PDP. While he is entitled to his opinions, some of the claims he made require proper context so that Edo people are not misinformed. Interestingly, even within his submissions, there are acknowledgements that highlight some of the very issues Edo people have repeatedly raised about the immediate past administration.

Let me restate what is already evident to all: Edo State is on a new path. In just one year, Governor Monday Okpebholo has brought back a climate of hope, order, accountability, and genuine development- development that citizens can see, feel, and benefit from. This stands in contrast to the previous pattern of grand announcements that delivered very little to the ordinary Edo person.

Our people deserve honest engagement, not political misdirection. My intention is simply to ensure that facts remain facts, and that the progress being made today is not overshadowed by unfounded narratives.

     First truth Oziegbemi accidentally told

The first clear truth he inadvertently revealed was his acknowledgment of the Benin flyover project, a project the previous administration did not initiate in eight years, yet under Governor Monday Okpebholo, is already rising visibly and progressing steadily toward completion. That acknowledgment alone highlights the contrast in vision and commitment between both administrations.

Anyone familiar with the Ikpoba Hill axis of Benin, the gateway to Edo Central and Edo North, understands the gridlock, delays, and hardship that commuters have endured for years due to the heavy traffic on that route. The ongoing flyover is intended to permanently resolve that problem and ease movement for thousands of Edo people who rely on that corridor daily.

It is important to state that leadership requires presence, accountability, and continuity. A former governor who has chosen to remain outside the state since leaving office cannot credibly evaluate a government that is on ground, engaging with the people, and working consistently to rebuild what was left behind.

Public service is about responsibility, not commentary from a distance. Those who were entrusted with leadership yesterday must also be willing to answer for the choices they made, just as those in leadership today must be ready to account for their actions. It is only on this basis that assessments can be fair, factual, and meaningful.

     Mandate is legitimate; overwhelming

Let it be said without ambiguity: Governor Monday Okpebholo’s mandate is not accidental. It was clear, decisive, and affirmed by every tribunal. Edo people rejected Obaseki, rejected PDP propaganda, and embraced a governor who is humble enough to serve and strong enough to deliver.

I contested against former Governor Obaseki for the governorship of the state in 2016 and 2020, when INEC declared him winner in both elections, I went to court to dispute the declaration, especially as the first election was generally acknowledged to have been won by me. Even the physical counting of votes done before the governorship tribunal showed clearly that the results that were announced were a lot higher than the actual votes counted, the tribunal still upheld that Obaseki won the election. I went all the way to the Supreme Court, and that verdict remained unchanged. It is on record that immediately after the Supreme Court pronouncement, I congratulated Governor Obaseki as a firm believer in the rule of law.

Throughout his eight years in office, I never criticized him or his government. Obaseki and his cohorts must put their disappointment and bitterness aside, accept the overwhelming verdict of the tribunal, Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court that Senator Monday Okpebholo won the election and is the rightful Governor of Edo State. They must also give him a chance to govern and develop the state rather than endless wailing and deliberate falsehoods to discredit his government.

On infrastructure: the lie and the truth

For eight years, former Governor Obaseki left much of Edo State, including large parts of Edo South, his own senatorial district without the physical development the people desperately needed. Instead of real infrastructure, our state was treated to presentations, projections, and endless PowerPoints that produced no meaningful improvement on the ground.

In contrast, within just one year, Governor Monday Okpebholo has begun addressing long-standing infrastructural failures that were ignored for nearly a decade:

Benin Flyovers at Ramat Park and Adesuwa Junction

These are not conceptual drawings or digital designs. They are real structures that Edo people can see; they are strategic projects intentionally sited in Edo South to ease traffic, improve commerce, and demonstrate a commitment to equity and balanced development.

    Road Interventions Across the state

Years of neglect left roads across all three senatorial districts in deplorable condition. The Okpebholo administration has now begun a phased and systematic approach to rehabilitation- addressing critical sections in Edo Central, Edo North, and Edo South. While the challenges remain particularly severe in Edo South, work has commenced in priority areas, and the government has also taken responsibility for several federal and LGA roads because, in the Governor’s words, “a bad road does not ask who owns it before it affects Edo lives.” This is what responsible and compassionate leadership looks like: recognising the scale of decay and beginning the process of rebuilding with sincerity, not excuses.

     Education: the myth of ‘Edobest’

For eight years, Obaseki promoted reforms that were heavy on presentations but light on real outcomes; endless slogans; tablets without teachers;  and training programmes that led to no actual employment.

Yet in just one year, Governor Monday Okpebholo has employed 5,000 teachers, a milestone the previous administration never reached. The message is simple: no amount of presentations can replace the impact of qualified teachers in the classroom.

Alongside this, there is ongoing renovation and construction of primary and secondary school facilities across the state to ensure that learning takes place in safe and conducive environments.

ON AAU Ekpoma: From captivity to liberation

Obaseki strangled AAU with an illegal SIT, dismantled its stability, and reduced its funding to a disgraceful ₦41 million monthly, leading to the dismissal of patriotic lecturers.

But in one year, Governor Okpebholo has: Restored lawful governance; Enabled the emergence of a legitimate Vice Chancellor; Increased monthly allocation to ₦500 million; Returned AAU to dignity and progress.  This is leadership grounded in justice and compassion.

Apart from AAU Ekpoma, the Usen Polytechnic, in Ovia South West, long neglected to the status of a secondary school is now wearing a new look. The internal roads have been tarred by the NDDC courtesy of the governor’s robust engagement with the Commission to do more in Edo State.

The Edo State University Uzairue is now better funded under the administration of Sen Monday Okpebholo unlike former Governor Obaseki who was determined to willfully close the University because it was established by his predecessor, Sen. Adams Oshiomhole, who ironically was also his benefactor.

    On economy: The real numbers

Under Obaseki, Edo’s IGR was drained by ‘consultants’ who were merely proxies.

Under Okpebholo: Middlemen removed; Leakages blocked; Revenue entering government coffers- not private pockets. This is why Edo’s IGR is rising steadily.

Edo Line, which had become moribund under the previous administration despite claims of technocratic expertise, has been revived by Governor Monday Okpebholo under the rebranded New Edo Line. Today, the company operates with a fleet of over one hundred buses, expanded terminals across the country, and a renewed, competent management team- creating meaningful employment for many Edo people.

In addition, new buses have been ordered for the Edo City Transport Service. This intervention will not only generate more jobs but also improve mobility and ease intra-state transportation for residents.

On security: from chaos to control

The past administration left Edo in frightening insecurity and violent cultism. It is symbolic that Dr. Tony Aziegbemi himself was kidnapped under that chaotic climate. But within one year, Governor Okpebholo has: Provided patrol vehicles, motorbikes, and operational support; Strengthened community policing ;Supported night patrols with logistics and allowances; taken firm action against cultism that Obaseki administration enabled; reduced violent crime across the state. Security is not a slogan. It is action- and Okpebholo has taken it.

    On social welfare and humanity

    Governor Okpebholo’s compassion is visible:

₦1 billion support fund for traders; ₦1 billion bursary approved for Edo students—never done in Obaseki’s era; Reopening the Central Hospital destroyed to serve private interests; rebuilding Oba Market left in ruins for years by Obaseki in the heart of Benin; established a School of Nursing in Edo Central; reactivating Customary Courts statewide;swearing in judges Obaseki unlawfully blocked for years; payment of backlog of salaries and benefits owed to dismissed staff of College of Education, Ekiadolor, which Obaseki was responsible for but refused to pay.

This is governance with a heart, unlike Obaseki who was nicknamed Ematon (Iron) by public servants in the state.

On agriculture: Real investment, not ‘audio agric’

Obaseki’s ESOP project was a land-grabbing enterprise that robbed Orhionmwon and Ovia communities of their ancestral lands and handed the benefits to outsiders and cronies. Edo State itself had no equity. In contrast, Okpebholo has:  Raised the agriculture budget ; Invested in real tractors- not laptops ; Given farmers grants quietly, without consultants or needless MOUs; empowered rural communities directly.

This is agriculture for the people.

On MOWAA, and the grand deception

Obaseki demolished a century-old Central Hospital to create an otherwise worthy project but dubiously tied to his private business network through Afrinvest and Phillip Iheanacho. Till date, Obaseki and his stooges on the MOWAA Board have refused to acknowledge the contribution of Edo State in terms of conceptualization, land, and financial contribution to the realization of the project. More worrisome, is the lack of disclosure of names of donors and amount contributed for the project. That is the truth. A man who cannibalised heritage for personal benefit and one who cannot even visit his state after leaving office cannot lecture Edo people on museums.

Governance style: Peace over conflict Governor Okpebholo is not fighting: his deputy, the House of Assembly, judges, traditional rulers, elders or youths.

He respects institutions. He values peace. He listens. This alone marks a total departure from eight years of hostility, arrogance, and needless wars.

A word to Dr. Tony Aziegbemi

A factional chairman who secretly sends his admiration of the leadership capacity and style of Governor Okpebholo should have remained quiet, instead of lending his name to a publication, sponsored by Obaseki, filled with vexatious fabrications.

But we understand: Those who supervised eight years of emptiness will always tremble before one year of progress.

    Final verdict

Let me say this with complete conviction: In just one year, Governor Monday Okpebholo has achieved more for Edo people than Obaseki achieved in eight grievous years.

Obaseki’s ’30 projects’ were mostly: Audio announcements, PowerPoint animations, Projects structured to benefit Godwin Obaseki, his company Afrinvest, his cronies, and outsiders, not Edo people.

But Okpebholo has already delivered more than 30 tangible, verifiable, people-centred projects in less than one year. Those still praising Obaseki should first encourage him to visit home, even briefly. After eight years as a visiting governor, the least he can do is return to the state he abandoned.

    Conclusion

Edo State is finally on the path of restoration, fairness, and responsible leadership.

I make bold to say that Governor Monday Okpebholo has restored the soul of governance in Edo State. His achievements are for the people- not for himself. And those hired to malign him should bow their heads in shame and join the liberation already underway.

Edo belongs to all of us. And the hand of God is upon this new season.

God bless Edo State. God bless the Governor. God bless our people.

National Chairman of All Progressives Congress, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, former Governor Adams Oshiomhole and other dignitaries have scored Governor Monday Okpebholo high on performance after 365 days in office.

They spoke at a colloquium to celebrate the governor’s one year anniversary.

Yilwatda said the speed at which Edo State would develop would be determined by Governor Okpebholo.

He said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had increased allocations to state for the economy to grow.

The APC national chairman, however, said not all governors were doing what Okpebholo was doing with available resources.

He said the party was proud of Governor Okpebholo, saying there were improvements in critical infrastructure across Edo State.

“We saw what you are doing in road; we saw what you are doing in the health sector and others. We are proud of you.”

Former Governor Adams Oshiomhole, who is the lawmaker representing Edo North Senatorial District, said the ability of Governor Okpebholo to hire and fire showed he was a man of steel.

Oshiomhole said Okpebholo displayed uncommon humility and didn’t engage in hiring consultants.

He said achievements recorded showed collaboration between the Executive and the Legislature, unlike during his tenure when he had a hostile House of Assembly.

“Okpebholo’s actions speak louder than words. Edo State is once again shining as a beacon of progress and good governance. I celebrate your achievements and wish you continued wisdom, strength and success in the service of our beloved people.”

The lawmaker representing Ovia Federal Constituency, Omosede Igbinedion, said Okpebholo had shown commitment, focus and dedication to the growth and transformation of Edo State.

“From stabilising governance to implementing impactful infrastructure projects and prioritising security and education, Okpebholo’s administration has shown that purposeful leadership delivers results.

“The rehabilitation of critical roads, rehabilitation of schools, educational reforms, employment, support for farmers and your engagement with the grassroots speak volumes about a governor who listens, acts and leads with humility.”

Governor Okpebholo said 300 people were killed in the state in 2024 in cult related violence, which made his administration to act decisively against cultism.

He said the last 365 days were about restoring trust, even as he declared that Edo would no longer be a safe haven for kidnappers.

Okpebholo insisted that he inherited N600billion debt and N180billion owed contractors, saying the Obaseki-led administration lacked transparency.

He hailed President Tinubu for embarking on economic and tax reforms, which he noted resulted in developmental strides in the state.

The governor said he had completed 60 kilometres of road out of the 253 kilometres of road his administration embarked on in the last one year.

He said he replaced his predecessor’s artificial intelligence generated governance with practical governance.

“When I assumed office a year ago, I met a state weighed down by rot, debt, insecurity and distrust. But with determination, prayer and teamwork, we have begun to restore hope, rebuild institutions and renew confidence in government.

“We met a collapsing system where hospitals lacked drugs and workers’ morale was low. We have begun rebuilding from the ground up. We are building new Primary Health Centres in 18 wards, providing diagnostic machines across local governments and building a new 100-bed Specialist Hospital in Udomi, Edo Central.

“In education, most schools were in decay and our children learned under poor conditions. We immediately began school renovations and teacher recruitment. Today, 5,000 teachers have been permanently employed, and 63 schools have been upgraded to modern standards. We also increased Ambrose Alli University’s subvention from N41 million to N500 million monthly.”

Residents celebrate as Edo governor inspects signature projects

Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo yesterday continued his one-year anniversary tour of key infrastructure projects across the state, especially in Southern Senatorial District.

The inspection drew jubilant crowds and widespread celebration, as residents thronged the streets to hail what many described as a new dawn of purposeful leadership and development.

From the newly renovated Army Day Secondary School at Ikpoba Hill, to the fast-rising Adesuwa Junction Flyover and the 8.23-kilometre Okpagha–Amufi Road, the governor’s convoy was met with excitement, dancing and cheers, as communities came alive in spontaneous celebration of his achievements within just one year in office.

At Army Day Secondary School, students in crisp uniforms waved flags and sang songs of praise as they welcomed the governor. Teachers, parents and residents held placards with inscriptions such as “Okpebholo, the Hope Restorer!” and “Edo is Shining Again!”, a reflection of the renewed optimism sweeping through the state.

Governor Okpebholo, visibly moved by the transformation of the once-dilapidated school, expressed deep satisfaction about the quality of work done.

“When we came here last time, I was unhappy. There were no roofs, no windows, and no proper learning environment. Today, we have air-conditioned laboratories, renovated classrooms and a secured perimeter. This is what true change looks like,” he said.

The governor announced plans to install solar-powered streetlights across the school premises to enhance security and provide an enabling environment for students to study at night.

He credited the success of such interventions to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which, he said, continued to inspire his administration’s focus on people-centred governance.

Commissioner for Education, Paddy Iyamu, described the project as “a total rewrite of the story,” noting that the school, once abandoned and unsafe, has now become a model for public education in Edo.

“Children used to clean their own classrooms before learning could begin. The governor has changed that reality and restored dignity to education in Edo State,” he said.

A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Otunba Segun Sowunmi, lauded the governor’s leadership style and vision, remarking that “every investment in education is an investment in human capital. If this is what one year looks like, then the future of Edo under Okpebholo is bright indeed.”

Dr. Oduwale Egwaigie, chairman of the School Management Development Committee and an old student, recounted the school’s years of neglect, describing the governor’s swift intervention as “nothing short of historic.”

According to him, “for eight years, we pleaded for help to no avail. But this governor acted within weeks. Parents are now transferring their children from private schools to Army Day. That says it all.”

From Ikpoba Hill, the governor’s entourage proceeded to Adesuwa Junction, where construction work on the state’s second flyover bridge is advancing rapidly. Excited residents lined the streets, chanting and waving as the governor inspected progress at the site.

Special Adviser on Project Monitoring, Phoebe Williams-Bello, said the flyover was on track for early completion, six months ahead of schedule.

Williams-Bello, an engineer, said affected property owners had been fully compensated and commended the governor for his commitment to infrastructural renewal.

“The people can see the progress. This is not a promise on paper, it is tangible development taking shape before our eyes,” she said.

At the 8.23-kilometre Okpagha–Amufi Road, residents erupted in joy as the governor’s convoy arrived. Dancing and singing, they celebrated the long-awaited project, which links Ikpoba-Okha and Uhunmwonde local governments, opening access to markets, schools and rural communities.

A community leader, beaming with excitement, said: “For years, this road was a nightmare. Today, we can drive freely. Governor Okpebholo has restored our faith in government.”

The inspection tour ended in a carnival-like atmosphere, as traders, artisans and students flooded the streets, waving banners and chanting songs of appreciation.

For many, the day symbolised not just an anniversary of leadership, but also a celebration of progress, hope and the rebirth of Edo State under a governor who has matched words with action.

MOWAA management has denied allegations that it presented itself as the Benin Royal Museum in order to secure funding.

It urged relevant authorities to confirm directly with any and all of the donors that it never misrepresented its status.

Director of MOWAA Institute, Ore Disu, in a statement issued in Benin City, said the body would continue to uphold deep respect for Oba Ewuare II, the Oba of Benin.
