    Appeal Court President constitutes tribunal for Katsina by-elections

    President of the Court of Appeal, Monica Dongban-Mensem, has constituted a tribunal to hear petitions on Saturday’s by-elections in Katsina State.

    This is containe in a statement signed by the Secretary of the tribunal, Hajiya Aisha Muhammad-Fika  in Katsina.

    ”Pursuant to the powers conferred on the President, Court of Appeal by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended and the electoral Act 2022 as amended, Justice Dongban-Mensam, has constituted the national and state assembly by-elections tribunal for Katsina State.

    “Sequel to the above, the Chief Judge of Katsina State, Justice Musa Danladi has granted the use of High Court room No 5, situated at the state’s high court of justice complex for the tribunal,” Muhammad-Fika said.

    According to the secretary of the tribunal, for any inquiries, the general public are hereby advised to contact the Registry/Secretariat of the tribunal.

    She sai that a date would be communicated for inaugural sitting of the tribuna;.

    NAN reports that on Saturday, Feb. 3, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) conducted by-elections across 20 polling units in Kankara and Faskari Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state. (NAN)

    Appeal Court constitutes tribunal for by-elections in Lagos, Oyo states

    President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, has constituted a tribunal to hear petitions on Saturday’s by-elections in Surulere Federal Constituency 1, Lagos State and a constituency in Oyo State.

    The constituency affected is Saki West Constituency in the Oyo State House of Assembly.

    The tribunal secretary, Mr Ibrahim Usman, stated in Ibadan on Monday that the panel would be sitting at Roseline Omotosho Court House, Ikeja.

    “For any enquiry, members of the public are advised to contact the tribunal’s registry at the aforementioned venue,’’ he stated.

    Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Fuad Laguda defeated his two major rivals to win Saturday’s Surulere Federal Constituency 1 by-election.

    While Laguda polled 11,203 votes, his closest contenders, Ms Adeola Damilola of the Labour Party (LP) scored 240 votes and Mr Afemighie Jerry of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) polled 278 votes.

    Laguda, the 46-year-old former chairman of Surulere Local Government Council, replaces Mr Femi Gbajabiamila, former Speaker of the House of Representatives, and now Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu.

    In Oyo State, APC’s candidate for Saki West Constituency, Mr Ibrahim Shittu, won Saturday’s by-election.

    The Court of Appeal earlier sacked Shittu, the declared winner of the seat at the March 18, 2023 general elections and ordered a rerun in two units of the constituency.

    At the end of the rerun on Saturday, Shittu polled 13,850 votes, while his closest challenger, Mr Julius Okedoyin of the PDP scored 13,670 votes.
