  • Buhari set for victory, says Salvador

Head, Buhari/Osinbajo Presidential  Campaign Support Group (Southwest) Alhaji Moshood Salvador has said President Muhammadu Buhari will win next month election.

Salvador who spoke on Saturday at  APC rally, Maryland, Lagos said the votes from the Northwest and Southwest was fully  guaranteed to the President.

He added that Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar campaign to restructure the country was not genuine.

He said the party lacked the capacity to implement such programme.

Salvador explained that the country’s political configuration made it impossible, stressing all sections must be involved to restructure the country.

He advised those playing the restructuring card ahead of the election, to stop being mischievous.

He said: “The PDP knows that restructuring of the country is the agenda of the Southern Nigeria. The party knows that the only way restructuring can gain dominance is to ask the old men in the south to talk about it.

“What have these old men been doing this while? Some of them joined politics when they were 27 years old and are now in their 90s. Why has it been impossible for them to restructure over the years and is it now they are over ninety, they can achieve it?

“Restructuring we agreed is a southern agenda. Chief Olusegun Obasanjo was there for eight years, he did not restructure because he knew the truth that it is not feasible. Jonathan was there, he never talk of restructuring. He only talked of derivation because it benefitted his own region alone.

“How comes the Yoruba are championing restructuring because it is almost impossible. We are under a democratic administration, and it is always a game of number, even when you want to go to referendum, the National Assembly has to be set aside. But is the National Assembly ready to be set aside? So, restructuring is not possible under the dispensation.

Salvador said the alternative was for states to come together for economic gains, where they can channel their resources and make direct economic investment instead of looking up to federal handouts.

According to him, since restructuring was not a northern agenda, the issue would always be defeated through popular votes.

He noted that the PDP Presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar would later come up with excuses why he could not restructure because of the inherent challenges.

“The record of the PVC we have shows that the Southwest has 14 million voters, the Southeast 7 million and the South-south 7 million voters. Then go to the North which does not have restructuring as its agenda; Northwest has 18.9 million votes, Northeast 12 million and North central has 10 million votes.

“All these put together show that the north will defeat the south on the restructuring agenda, so it is not within the power of Atiku to say he would restructure or north but the constitution has to be followed to achieve it.”

The APC chieftain promised to completely defeat the PDP in Lagos, stressing the party was no longer in existence in the state.

“The last vestiges of the PDP had been removed when I dumped the party with millions of my supporters. In the last election, APC polled 794,000 votes while PDP 620,000 votes. The trend will change in the coming election.

“To prove to the PDP that I have the grassroots power, the political power in Lagos, this time APC will poll more than one million votes while the PDP will score less than six hundred thousand votes,” he said.

Speaking at the event Senator Anthony Adefuye urged party members to move from house to house to canvass for votes. He said victory for President Muhammadu Buhari would provide opportunity for the Southwest to reassert itself for future election.

He advised party members to forget whatever acrimony that came up in the selection of candidates being presented for the elections.

“Some people may have been offended during the primary that is not enough to revolt against the APC’s candidates. Let vote them first and we can later resolve whatever issues we have later.

“There is no doubt the APC led administration in Lagos has performed remarkably. We have stand firm with Babatunde Sanwo- Olu, we have to support the senatorial candidates, House of Representatives candidate, state house of assembly candidates in the election.”

  • Lagos is now one party state, says Salvador

The former Lagos State chairman, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Alhaji Moshood Salvador on Saturday said the state has become a one party state, following his defection with  thousands of PDP members to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Addressing party thousands of party members and stalwarts at the Agege Township Stadium, Lagos. He said with his exit, the PDP was completely dead in Lagos.

Salvador added that in the 2015 election, the PDP and APC polled over 98 percent votes, leaving less than two percent for the other parties.

He said with his defection with thousands of former PDP members to the APC, there was no more opposition for the ruling APC in Lagos.

“I must say with all emphasis that Lagos is now a one party state.  With these people that move with me to join the progressives PDP is dead in Lagos.

“We don’t expect people to join any other political party except the APC. We have records of the abysmal performance of other political parties in Lagos during the last election.

“We are going to secure 3.5 million vote for Lagos State governorship candidate and over five million for the President in the 2019 election.

“This will be my contribution to the APC in the 2019 election. We hope to garner 99.5 percent votes for the party.”

Salvador urged the Southwest to return to the progressives, noting that they have noting to gain with the PDP.

He urged Osun State electorate to vote the APC candidate in the September 22 election, noting that the Governor Rauf Aregbesola administration had impacted on the state.

In his remarks, Lagos APC chairman, Alhaji Babatunde Balogun said Salvador had always been a progressive and would remain in fold.

He thanked the new members for throwing away their torn umbrellas, stressing that the APC is a family where justice and equity is the hallmark.

Balogun maintained that the new members would enjoy their stay in the party, noting that the genuine PDP member have moved to the APC.

“We thank you all for coming to the APC, the this is the party for those who desired justice, equity and fairness. You have taken bold steps to throw away the thorn umbrellas and embracing the broom revolution.”

  • You are free to move to any party, Bode George tells Salvador

Former National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Chief Olabode George has said the party was not in crisis in Lagos State.

He said Lagos PDP chairman Moshood Salvador was free to move to any party.

At a conference in Lagos on Monday, he said those speculating that Lagos PDP was in crisis was a figment of some people’s imagination.

He Lagos PDP would remain united irrespective of the decision of the minority views in the party.

He said the decision by Salvador to move to another party was quite instructive on the investigation about the murdered Lagos PDP chieftain Adeniyi Aborishade.

He said: “Why is it now that the man is moving to another party. Why did he not provide security at the venue PDP was meeting when Adeniyi Aborishade was attacked and murdered.

“Those who are alleging that I am the cause of crisis in Lagos are out of their minds. There is no crisis in Lagos, we are united in our resolve to advance the cause of the party.”

George said the killings of PDP chieftain was unfortunate, calling on party members to support the deceased family to overcome the pains.

He said the party would not relent in the efforts to get justice for the slain politician who was killed on July 21.

“There is something terribly disturbing about our justice system. The rule of law is now being distorted, savaged, abused, treated with contempt, trampled upon with callous indifference.

“There is palpable uncertainty everywhere as no one is sure when and how right prevails over the festering wrongs, and how and the scale of Justice prevails in sweeping latitude.

“Without the strict adherence to the sacrosanct largeness of the rule of law, without the natural guidance of the enlightened spectacle of societal thematic truth, we are all endangered, democracy itself becomes wobbly, teeters upon the cliffhanger of ruin.

“But this should never happen. We must all defend and protect this hard earned democracy. We can’t fold our hands and pretend a stoic indifference while the normative essence of the democratic order is gradually being trampled and dragged in the mud,” he said.

Salvador who later addressed party chieftains at his office said he had dumped the PDP for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He said no few than 15,000 party members would move with him to the APC, noting that he could no longer be in the same party with George.

The Lagos PDP chieftain maintained that George was the problem of the party, stressing that he frame him up over the slain Aborishade.

He said: “I am not happy that I some people in the state have been frustrating my efforts to win  the state for the PDP, but since they don’t appreciate this, I have to move to where my efforts will be recognized.

“The PDP chairman and other party chieftain s have been calling me to discourage me on the move, but no looking back. I have to take my people to where they will will make progress, so the APC is the only party that can guarantee this.”

He said he would formerly decamped on October 3.

  • Court frees men accused of murdering Apapa PDP chairman

An Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court on Friday discharged nine men charged with the murder of the Apapa local government PDP chairman, Adeniyi Aborisade.

Delivering a ruling, Chief Magistrate Mr Alex Komolafe, dismissed the murder charges against Rotimi Kujore, 44; Fatai Adele, 62; Ismaila Abiola, 50; Amos Fawole, 65; Victoria Falowo, 42.

PDP targets 1m new members in Lagos – Chairman

The Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP ) in Lagos State says it is targeting one million new members ahead of the 2019 gubernatorial election in the state.

The Lagos State Chairman, Mr Moshood Salvador, said this on Thursday at the state Secretariat of the party in Ikeja.

He was addressing the party’s councillorship and chairmanship aspirants in the last council polls in the state.

“Our target is to have one million new members ahead of the election and that can be done with commitment of existing members.

“We should go all out and get members into the party. We should embark on mobilisation of members,” he said.

Salvador said the All Progressives Congress ( APC ) defeated the party with less than 200,000 votes in the last election, which meant that the PDP was very relevant in the state.

He said his ultimate ambition as the leader of the party was to unseat the APC, for the PDP to take over.

The party chairman said the commitment of all members was needed to realise that ambition.

“We need to be more committed, we need to be more dedicated, we need to be strong to take the PDP to where it should be in the state,” he said.

He said the PDP would have won the state in the 2015 elections if members had worked harder.

Salvador, therefore, charged members not to take chances this time around, but to embark on aggressive membership drive in their localities.

“We should encourage people to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards and vote for the PDP.

“We should also secure and protect our votes during elections. This is how PDP can realise its potential in the state “he said.

The chairman said the essence of the meeting with aspirants was to carry everyone along and give them a sense of belonging.

Salvador said that the power of every political party lay in the grassroots, as that is the foundation.

He asked the aspirants who contested in the last election to support his efforts to reposition the party.

Salvador said he was building a new party where the common people matter most.

He dismissed speculations in some quarters that there was a crack in the state chapter of the party.

The chairman urged party members to remain one and strong for PDP’s progress.

Mr Wale Olaleye, a member of the party, commended the new spirit in the Lagos PDP.

He commended Salvador for his efforts at promoting peace and unity in the party.

Olaleye called on all members to give him the desired support.

We must unite to dislodge APC in 2019 – Salvador

The Lagos State Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Moshood Salvador on Friday, charged members of the party to unite to dislodge the All Progressives Congress (APC) from power in the state next year.

Salvador gave the charge while inaugurating the party’s Caucus and State Leaders Council at the party secretariat in Lagos.

He said it would be difficult for the party break the jinx of consistent failures at the polls in the state if members work at cross purposes.

The party chairman asked members to cast aside their differences and be more committed to the party for electoral victory in 2019.

“I want all of us to see the best in PDP now and get the best out of the PDP in the next election,” he said.

“This is only possible with strong unity. No matter how many times the teeth bite the tongue, they are still together, and that is forgiveness.

“Therefore, I call on you to show more commitment to the party and see its success as paramount, to defeat the APC in 2019,” he said.

Salvador urged members not destroy the party, no matter their grievances.

Speaking at the occasion, a former governorship candidate of the party in the state, Mr Jimi Agbaje, urged party men to stay together to defeat the APC in the state in the election.

He said the APC had failed the people of the state and it was time for the PDP to take over government.

“The APC has failed in the state, making one to ask if anything is working now in Lagos.

“It is time for the PDP to take over government. However if we must win, we must be united.

“If we must win, we must say no to impunity. We must put our acts together and work with unity of purpose; that is the only way,” he said.

Agbaje commended Salvador for bringing everybody together, saying it was a sure step to record victory in 2019.
Another former governorship candidate, Dr Samsideen Dosunmu, also urged members to close ranks and be united.

  • PDP chair: Lagos chapter endorses Bode George

PDP chair: Lagos chapter endorses Bode George

The Lagos State Chapter of the PDP on Sunday night endorsed Chief Olabode George as their preferred candidate for the National Chairmanship position during the forthcoming  December 9 National Convention of the party.

Dr Moshood Salvador, the State Chairman of PDP, gave the certification at a feedback meeting between George and members of the party, held at the party’s secretariat in GRA, Ikeja.

Reports say that George had been on campaign in the Southern states of the country to seek support for votes ahead of the National Convention.

There are about eight aspirants jostling for the National chairmanship seat of the party from the south.

They include: the former Governor of Ogun State, Chief Gbenga Daniel, former Minister of Education, Prof. Tunde Adeniran.

Others are: the former Minister of Youth Development, Prof. Taoheed Adedoja and former Lagos State PDP governorship candidate, Mr Jimi Agbaje, Prince Uche Secondus, a former acting National Chairman of PDP, and Chief Raymond Dokpesi.

Salvador said: “ On behalf of Lagos PDP, we must vote for Chief Bode George come December 9;  the South west is the rightful region to have the chairman of our great party.

“In the last dispensation, Ekiti produced the Vice- Chairman while Osun and Oyo states took the highest office. It is only Lagos that is left and what we want is the chairman.

“The South-east and the South-south have produced a chairman before that is why it is our turn to have the chairman of PDP,’’ he said.

Earlier, George assured members that if given the opportunity to serve, he would re-establish the culture and tradition put in place by the founding fathers of  the PDP.

“If I am given the opportunity, I will not be new to the management of this party because the party’s constitution is not going to be new to me; I know its provisions as I know the back of my hand.

“We grew up with the party and the founding fathers handed over the culture of the party to us and that is what we would re-establish.

“Just check out, from the end of our convention to the national election is a very short time, it is not a time where you can do experimentation, it is not a time you can bring a green horn to be the chairman of the party.

“If you are desirous that you want to win that election, on that day before you cast your votes search your consciences and think very carefully.

“Secondly, it is not a matter of life and death, if I don’t believe that I have anything to offer, I will not be here.

“I will not compromise on things that are not right and are not in the constitution.

“ I will do things the way they should be done and everybody will be happy. That was how our founding fathers were moving the party forward ,’’ George said.

  • PDP chairmanship: Why I support Bode George – Adewale

PDP chairmanship: Why I support Bode George – Adewale

A former factional Chairman of PDP in Lagos State, Mr Segun Adewale, has said that he is supporting Chief Olabode George for the chairmanship seat of the party in spite of their political disagreements.

Adewale told reporters in Lagos on Sunday that supporting George, a former PDP National Vice-Chairman (South-West) for the exalted party position was the right thing to do politically.

He said that though he had some issues with George in the state chapter of the party, he would still support him for the position.

“I am supporting Bode George to be the next chairman of the party despite our differences.

“The disagreements I have with him are local disagreements and not national. My support goes for his national aspiration.

“My support is based on his promise that he would not interfere in the affairs of the party at the state level, which was the major cause of the friction.

“Moreover, Bode George is a chieftain from Lagos,” he said.

George and Adewale had been at loggerheads over the former’s support for another factional chairman, Mr Moshood Salvador, in the state.

Salvador had, before the resolution of the party ‘s leadership tussle by the Supreme Court, aligned with Chief Ahmed Makarfi, National Caretaker Chairman of the party, while Adewale supported Sen. Ali -Modu Sheriff.

Adewale has, however, pledged support for Makarfi following his affirmation as PDP National Chairman by the Supreme Court on July 12.

He had said that the ruling did not affect his leadership of the party in Lagos State.

His insistence to stay at the state’s secretariat deepened his friction with George who said Salvador was the authentic chairman based on the ruling.

The national leadership of the party later directed Adewale to surrender the keys to the secretariat to George. He has complied with the directive.

Owing to the leadership crisis, the party announced the dissolution of the state executive committee at a non- elective congress in Port Harcourt and replaced it with a caretaker committee.

In spite of these, Adewale was present at George’s declaration for the party’s chairmanship position on Friday in Lagos.

PDP congress to elect new national executives will hold on Dec. 9.

  • Lagos council poll : Aggrieved PDP members are welcome – AD

Lagos council poll : Aggrieved PDP members are welcome – AD

The Alliance for Democracy (AD) in Lagos on Monday said it would warmly receive aggrieved members of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) wishing to contest the July 22 council poll on its platform.

The state chairman of the party, Mr Kola Ajayi made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

He was reacting to a recent directive by the Moshood-Salvador faction of the PDP telling its aspirants to contest the July 22 council poll on platforms of their choice.

The Publicity Secretary of the faction, Mr Taofik Gani had said the decision was a temporary arrangement to ensure that its aspirants were not denied participation in the poll.

Gani said that the arrangement had become inevitable as reconciliation with the Segun Adewale-led group for the party to unite for the polls was not yielding results.

Ajayi said the door of the party was open to aggrieved members of the PDP, but they would be allowed to contest on the party’s platform as long as they met the conditions.

“Disagreements are normal in politics, so are movements of politicians from parties to parties for certain reasons.

“So, if some of the aggrieved members of the PDP have decided to join us to contest the elections under our party, why not?

“Our doors are open. We will warmly receive them and they will surely be allowed to contest so far they agree to certain terms and conditions.

“One of the conditions will be that they will not come and use our platform and dump us afterwards. No,we don’t want ‘use and dump”, he said.

Ajayi, who is also the state chairman of the Inter-party Advisory Council (IPAC) in the state said the AD was perfecting preparations for the elections.

He added that IPAC was also taking steps to strengthen harmony among the political parties and ensure that the forthcoming polls were peaceful.

He said the party and IPAC were relying on the promise of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission that it would ensure the election was free and fair.

Assessing the performance of the Akinwunmi Ambode-led administration in the last two years, Ajayi said it had done well.

He said the achievement of the governor in the area of road construction was commendable, noting that gridlock had been significantly tackled.

“I commend Gov. Ambode. He has done well. He is visible in the area of infrastructural development.

“However, he can still do better. He can do better to make more impact on the lives of Lagosians,” he said.
