Why I announce my divorce publicly, by Actress Motilola Akinlami

Nollywood actress Motilola Akinlami has revealed that her decision to go public about her divorce was driven by a blogger’s threat to expose her.

In an interview with fellow actress Biola Bayo, Motilola explained that the blogger accused her of living a lie and threatened to reveal her marital status.

To take control of the narrative and avoid being blackmailed, she said she chose to make the announcement herself.

The actress also addressed the societal stigma surrounding women who go through failed marriages.

She stressed that no woman enters marriage planning to leave it, noting that most women commit to marriage with the genuine hope of building a lasting union.

Motilola called for greater empathy and understanding, urging the public to stop judging women whose marriages don’t work out.

She said, “Why did I announce my divorce? There was a blog at that time, the blogger messaged me and said you live in disguise, and I will expose it. I know that you have left your marriage. So, I was like, you want to blackmail me at this point? When I have got nothing else to lose, I will post it.

“There is one guy that is deceiving you, there is one man somewhere. I don’t know, I think I need to ask you people, do people think people go into marriages hoping to leave? I think they think there is a a new couple of women out there who go into marriage with the intention of leaving. So make it make sense.

“Except a woman is clinically insãne, no woman will ever go into a marriage with the intention of leaving. You go because you want forever”.

The actress concluded by reiterating that “House of Ga’a” is a great movie and wished her followers a blessed week ahead.

“I merely made an observation that I took down about 2 minutes after I read it again and had a conversation with a couple of people. I see how that may have sounded the way it did.

“Having said that, HOUSE OF GA’A is a great movie that has its own flavours and add-ons, as there are many sides to a coin.

“I only saw my own side, and for this, I apologise. Again, I’m sorry if that came across the wrong way

“Let’s start to ignore petty issues and focus on things that are killing us.”
