    Burna Boy thrills at London album release party

    Days after holding a listening party in Lagos, dancehall artiste, Damini Ogulu, aka Burna Boy, gave a thrilling experience to a number of his fans in a release party at The Curtain Hotel, London.

    He treated his fans to performances from songs off the forthcoming album titled ‘Outside’, which came out on all digital platforms under Atlantic Records.

    The event which was hosted by Eddie Kadi of BBC 1Xtra was attended by celebrities like Wizkid, J Hus, Tiwa Savage, Mr. Eazi, and Mabel to name a few.

    J Hus and Mabel joined Burna Boy on stage to perform their feature tracks ‘Sekkle Down’ and ‘Outside’ to the excitement of the fans.

    Days before, the artiste treated selected guests, close friends and family to an exclusive first listening.

    The private listening party, which took place at WéRé House in Lekki, Lagos, was compered by Beat FM’s Douglas Jekan who led a cheerful Burna Boy through a series of questions about the album.

    The young artiste said every song on the album was inspired by something in his life, revealing ‘Where I’m from’ as his favourite and most personal song. He explained how a trip to Port Harcourt led to ‘City Vibration’ and recounted his experience with Drake that led to ‘More Life’, the album’s opener.

    Signed to Spaceship Entertainment, Burna Boy founded and led a band called ‘Def Code’ in his high school days at Corona Schools.

    Mr Eazi is embarking on a Nigerian tour tagged ‘Detty Rave’ which will take him to 30 locations. The latest stop on the tour took the artiste to Abuja last Saturday.

    The event which commenced on December 2 in Sango Ota, Ogun State was an electrifying show that had Terry Apala and Small Doctor lending their talent to the concert.

    In usual fashion, he did not disappoint. He jumped around the stage with intense energy albeit a broken ankle.

    Before small Doctor, Terry Apala who is unassuming showed what it’s like to kill a performance effortlessly.

    After Small Doctor, Mr Eazi started his performance with sample you which was met with a large uproar. It was evident he was the son of the soil.

    Eazi promised to bring the concert every year to Ota and declared himself a Joju boy- a popular area in Sango Ota which drove the fans crazy as they felt one with him in that moment.

    Mr Eazi, Nigeria’s self-acclaimed pioneer , Banku Sounds, says his relationship with Temi, daughter of popular oil magnate Femi Otedola, is one of the nicest things that happened to him this year.

    The ‘Leg Over’ crooner, real name Oluwatosin Ajibade, described the relationship which has generated public interests as “one of the highlights of my year’’

    “It’s been one of the nicest things to happen to me this year. You know love is sweet. At least I have more inspiration for plenty songs.
    “So don’t be shocked that my new songs are going to be love-based.”

    The two love birds who are not shy about their relationship, frequently share their PDA pictures on their IG

    In a chat with HIPTV, Mr Eazi said he is still love in spite the intense trolling particularly for his claim of pioneering the infusion of Ghanaian lingo in lyrics.

    Eazi, who is also Apple Music’s Up Next artist, said “there is no real hate because if we as Nigerians saw another human being as Tanzanian or Ghanaian, we would still help; we are happy people, it is not that serious.”

    Eazi who is also a songwriter and entrepreneur is a graduate of mechanical engineering from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology ( KNUST ), where he began booking artistes to perform at college parties.

    He parades himself as the pioneer of Banku Music, a fusion sound he describes as the mixture of “Ghanaian bounces, Ghanaian highlife, Nigerian chord progressions, and Nigerian patterns”.

    He showed interest in music after recording a guest verse on “My Life”, a song that gained traction and became a popular record at KNUST.

    Eazi released his debut mixtape, About to Blow, in July 2013.

    He gained an international audience following the release of the 2015 single “Skin Tight”.

    Mr Eazi inked a record deal with Wizkid’s Starboy Entertainment in May 2016.

    Jonathan, Ben Bruce applaud Wizkid over best win at MOBO Awards

    Former President, Goodluck Jonathan and Sen. Ben Murray-Bruce, have applauded Nigerian music superstar Ayo Balogun, a.k.a Wizkid, for winning the ‘Best International Act’ at the 2017 MOBO awards.

    The 22nd edition of the iconic Music of Black Origin ( MOBO ) Awards was held on Wednesday night at the First Direct Arena in Leeds, United Kingdom.

    The ‘Star boy’ defeated American rapper Jay-Z, Drake, SZA, Cardi B, Kendrick Lamar and other famous international artistes to clinch the highly coveted trophy.

    Jonathan in a post on his Facebook wall congratulated Wizkid for making Nigeria proud.

    He wrote:“When Nigeria does well, I cannot help but feel well.

    “My happiness is tied to the happiness of Nigeria, and when Nigerians break records and take the name of Nigeria to greater heights it exhilarates me.

    “Thank you Wizkid for raising Nigeria’s flag high for the positive, not the negative.

    “Your emergence as the Best International Act at the #MOBOAwards is a proud moment for Nigeria, and the fact that you emerged over JAY-Z and Drake makes it even more celebratory. WELL DONE.”

    Also, Ben Murray- Bruce eulogized Wizkid on his Twitter handle- @ benmurraybruce,describing the feat as ‘one of the proudest moments of his life.’

    He wrote: “Dear @wizkidayo, I‘ve been in the entertainment business as an investor since 1980.

    “One of my proudest moments for Nigerian music is the day you defeated both Jayz and @Drake, two of the biggest stars in the world, to win the Best international Act at the #MOBOAwards, well done.”

    NAN reports that ace singer David Adeleke, a.k.a Davido, also won big at the MOBO Awards.

    The MOBO Awards, which started in 1996, is held annually in the United Kingdom to recognise artists of any ethnicity or nationality performing black music.

    Davido wins “Best African Act” at MOBO Awards

    Nigeria’s ace singer David Adeleke, a.k.a Davido, has won the “Best African Act”, at the 2017 edition of the prestigious Music of Black Origin ( MOBO ) Awards.

    The 22nd MOBO Awards was held on Wednesday night at the First Direct Arena in Leeds, United Kingdom.

    David edged out Wizkid, Mr Eazi, Tiwa Savage, Wande Coal, Maleek Berry and others to pitch the “Best African Act” award.

    Nigeria’s star boy, Wizkid who did not disappoint his fans also won the Best International Act, beating top artists like Drake, SZA, Cardi B, JAY-Z and Kendrick Lamar,among others.

    On the international scene, English grime and Hip Hop artist, Stormzy, was the biggest winner of the night winning in three prestigious categories – “Best Male Artist”, “Best Grime Act” and “Best Album”.

    Dave emerged as the “Best Newcomer” edging out Jorja Smith, Kojo Funds, Stefflon Don, Yxng Bane, and others while “Best Song” went to J Hus for his chart-topping song titled “Did You See.”

    Today, hip hop act, Mr Eazi, drops his first single, ‘Pour Me Water’ from his Who Is Mr. Eazi remix project slated for a March 2018 release.

    “Pour Me Water” signals another kick-down-doors moment to further cements the Banku chief as sole proprietor and innovator of a style many have resorted to chewing bite-sized chunks off of.

    “Who Is Mr Eazi is gonna be 3 or 4 huge remixes of my biggest songs this far, alongside some new compositions aimed at a fresh global push for the sound and the brand,” said Mr. Eazi, who is signed on to Starboy Records.

    The ‘Leg Over’ crooner who is dating Temi Otedola, is authoring a new chapter in African music, employing E-Kelly’s minimalist production to convey the fluid, evergreen message of love.

    Born Oluwatosin Oluwole Ajibade to a pilot father and banker mother, the Port Harcourt, Nigeria native’s earliest memories include morning sessions where his father would cook breakfast for him and his three siblings.

    Life Is Eazi, Vol. 1 – Accra to Lagos, his current effort released early 2017, is a homage to Nigeria and Ghana, the two countries which have influenced the evolution his Banku sound, the name itself a nod to his favourite Ghanaian dish.

    Timi Dakolo, Mr Eazi named anti-tobacco ambassadors

    THE Federal Government of Nigeria has named vocalist, Timi Dakolo, and Mr Eazi, as anti-tobacco ambassadors. According to a statement from the Ministry of Health last Thursday, the appointment forms part a planned launch of a six months national tobacco control communications campaign.

    The statement reveals that their appointment is to leverage on their influence with young Nigerians.

    Also added to the list is Sa’adatu Aliyu of the World Economic Forum’s Abuja Global Shapers Hub.

    The campaign as reported is a follow up to the Minister of Health, Isaac Adewole’s announcement on zero tolerance to tobacco in the country.

    The Minister had during the ‘World No Tobacco Day’ announced nine regulations in the Nigeria Tobacco Control Act 2015 to be enforced by the Federal Government.

    According to the ministry’s statement, “The Tobacco-Free Nigeria’ campaign, aims to educate Nigerians on the NTC Act 2015 and raise awareness on the dangers of tobacco smoke.

    “The campaign will leverage on social media and offline interactions to reach young Nigerians, especially second-hand smokers who need to be aware of the ban of smoking in public places and protect themselves.”

    The Lagos State Government on Friday said it has concluded plans to climax the Lagos@50 celebrations with a spectacular display of fireworks.

    The Government, in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde, said the fireworks would be on display at midnight of Sunday, May 28 on the water of Eko Atlantic.

    ”This is inform the public that there will be a display of fireworks as part of the music and fashion show to round off the 50thAnniversary Celebrations of the State. The fireworks will be on display at exactly 12 midnight at the Eko Atlantic City during the Golden Concert. Residents do not need to panic or nurse any fear whatsoever when they hear the sound of the fireworks as it is only just a symbolic way to draw the curtains of what has been a very splendid and successful celebration of our golden State.”

    “Residents who cannot attend the concert can also catch it live on Television as it promises to be a historic and exciting night of fun and maximum entertainment”, Ayorinde said.

    The Commissioner also expressed the gratitude of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to the sponsors of the fireworks, Eko Atlantic Nigeria Limited.

    The Lagos@50 Celebration, which began on May 27, 2016, has featured series of events and activities to showcase the cultural essence of the State, including Jazz Meets Runway, International Conferences, Arts Exhibition, Film Shows, among others.

    50 top artistes who have ruled the Lagos music scene over the years are expected to perform at the concert.

    Some of the artistes billed to perform include juju music maestros – King Sunny Ade and Evangelist Ebenezer Obey as well as the legendry Highlife Patriarch, Sir Victor Olaiya.

    Other superstars on board are Davido, Phyno, Olamide, Humble Smith, Adekunle Gold, Lil Kesh, Partoranking, ‘Mr Capable’ Banky W, Runtown, Vanessa, MI, Eedris Abdulkareem, Mr. Eazi, DJ Spinall and Waka Music star, Queen Salawa Abeni.

    Also expected are star Fuji artistes like Adewale Ayuba, Abass Akande Obesere and Wasiu Alabi (Pasuma Wonder).

    The Concert would also feature a fashion show to depict the evolution of fashion in Lagos state.

    I intend to quit music in 2020, says Mr Eazi

    Mr Eazi who recently featured on local Nigerian TV show, Street Hop, has revealed that he will be quitting music soon; stating that he sees his singing career as a short term goal.

    “Sincerely, I don’t plan on doing music for more than three years further,” he said.

    “In my mind I feel like I want to do something more like a Jay Z. The music is giving me a lot of capital which can be reinvested, the music is giving me a lot of influence, and so if in the next three years I’m able to get the numbers, you could use that to do anything else in life.

    “I am a serial entrepreneur. So, I will move on to the next thing depending on what I am passionate about at the time. It would appear that the artist is on a journey to ‘find’ himself admitting that he has walked away from several career paths from engineering to events.”

    The artiste who is working on a mixtape titled, ‘Life Is Eazi: Accra 2 Lagos’, is also set to host some fans to a show on February 11, 2017, titled ‘69 with Eazi’ where only 69 fans would get a first listen to ‘Accra 2 Lagos’ as Mr Eazi and an acoustic guitarist performs the mixtape which will also be released that day.

    The show which is to be hosted by DJ Cuppy, according to the organisers is Mr Eazi’s way of saying a huge thank you to fans for their consistent support on his musical journey so far.
