Ajayi Crowther University on Thursday conferred an Honorary Doctoral degree in Business Administration to Mr. Modupe Alakija, Chairman of FAMFA Oil, during its 16th Convocation ceremony.
The epoch event was held at the Modupe and Folorunsho Alakija Faculty of Law Auditorium of the institution.
This year, the university recognised two distinguished individuals with Honorary Degrees: Alakija and Rev. Bola Adams, both celebrated for their notable philanthropic efforts in Nigeria.
According to university management, Alakija has built a vast business empire across multiple sectors and has been a long-time advocate for quality education.

It further noted that the impressive Faculty of Law Building at the institution stands as a testament to the Alakija family’s commitment to education.
During the ceremony, Vice Chancellor Prof. Timothy Abiodun Adebayo praised Alakija as a philanthropist who has distinguished himself in society, leading to the Senate’s decision to bestow the honorary title in recognition of his contributions to societal upliftment.
Pro-Chancellor Dr. Olutoyin Okeowo also acknowledged Alakija’s philanthropic initiatives, particularly revealing his efforts to enhance CMS Grammar School, his alma mater.
