Wife of Chairman of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Mrs. Muibat Ajala, has sensitised young girls on personal development and hygiene.

The event was in commemoration of the International Day for Female Child.

The programme featured interactive workshops and Talk sessions. Mrs Ajala emphasised the need for parents to be involved in their children’s lives, especially regarding internet usage.

She said: “We must keep reminding them that while the internet and media are important and here to stay, we need to guide them on responsible use. We should continually engage them, interact, and help them understand that life includes both good and bad.”

She highlighted the importance of personal hygiene for girls, urging them to always maintain cleanliness, especially during their menstrual cycles.

“Personal hygiene is very important, and for the girl-child, it’s even more so,” she said.

A panelist, Miss Zainab Alayande, urged parents to allow girls to explore beyond traditional roles.

“To all the ladies out there, you are unstoppable; you are not an option, you are enough. Believe that there is nothing you cannot achieve. Your gender does not define or limit you. Embrace leadership and pursue your dreams fearlessly,” she said.

Another panelist, Miss Mutiat Adigun, emphasised the connection between personal development and hygiene.

She encouraged girls to break barriers and strive for success in every aspect of life.

“You cannot empower a girl-child and leave personal development and hygiene because it comes together. Personal development has to do with a girl-child self-awareness and personal hygiene has to do with her health and without the present of the two, the girl-child can’t be a girl-child,” she said.
