    Let’s focus on collective progress, say Ogun Dep Gov, monarch

    The Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Mrs Noimot Salako-Oyedele, has said knowledge of the deen for the Muslim faithful is not about eloquence or large followings, but rather about sincerity, depth and alignment with the teachings of the Quran and Sunnah.

    Mrs Salako-Oyedele, who made this known during the Annual Salako Family Tafsir, held at the Ota Recreation Club Field, GRA Ota, also noted that it is the duty and responsibility of the Muslim clergymen to guide with wisdom, as congregants continue to seek knowledge from those who are truly learned.

    She added that Islam teaches unity, urging Muslims to strengthen the bonds within the Ummah and amongst the people as a community.

    “We all must remain focused on collective progress,” she said.

    The deputy governor stressed that as a people, “we must never underestimate the importance of having our own people in key positions of influence in government, because it is only through such representation that our voices are heard and our interests protected.”

    She also used the opportunity to call on the people, especially youths, to take advantage of various opportunities available through government programs, opining that these were avenues for employment and empowerment for the maximum benefit for the people.

    Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on political Affairs, Jide Ojuko, said the lecture has impacted many lives positively, while urging politicians to fear God in all they do so as to get good reward from God.

    The Grand Chief Imam of Ilaro, Yewa land, Sheikh Al-Imam Mustapha Adewunmi, said the rate at which many Alfas and some Islamic clerics indulge in deceitful act as well as commit crimes was very alarming, nothing that many of them who appears to be holy have lost their dignity and honour as a result of worldly things.

    Sheikh Adewunmi urged young Islamic clerics to move closer to Almighty Allah, follow the deeds of Allah, preach it and not involve in any act questionable characters.

    The Olota of Ota, Oba Abdulkabir Obalanlege, said God has created mankind to be beneficial to one another, hence the need to be more united and be our brother’s keeper not only at this ramadan period but at all times.

    Poly students attack Ogun deputy governor’s convoy

    Students of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Abeokuta (MAPOLY) yesterday attacked the convoy of Ogun State Deputy Governor Mrs Noimot Salako-Oyedele and demobilised her vehicle.

    The students, who were on road protest, armed with sticks and other objects, also dented the vehicle, forcing Salako-Oyedele to abandon her itinerary for a while, after they had blocked the travel route of the convoy.

    The incident occurred when the deputy governor, an engineer, was on her way to 35 Artillery Brigade Alabata, Abeokuta to represent Governor Dapo Abiodun at the reception marking 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebrations.

    A statement by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Information and Strategy, Mr Kayode Akinmade, confirmed the incident.
