    Abia governor’s wife welcomes First Baby of Year 2026

    The wife of the Abia State governor, Mrs. Priscilla Otti, welcomed the first baby of the year 2026 at the Akirika Ukwu Primary Healthcare Centre, Ukwa West Local Government Area, Abia State.

    The baby, Miss Oluebubechi Nwatuobi Excessgrace, was born at exactly 12:43 a.m. on January 1, 2026, weighing 3kg at birth.

    To commemorate the historic birth, Mrs. Otti presented the newborn and her mother with essential gifts, including bags of rice, milk, groundnut oil, sanitary items, as well as a cash donation of One Million Naira,

    She explained that the gesture was aimed at supporting the mother’s nutrition and overall wellbeing during the nursing period.

    The Abia First Lady, who was overjoyed at the birth, also named the newborn “Ihuoma,” expressing hope that the child would grow in peace, grace, and favour.

    Otti, while describing the birth as a joyful and symbolic beginning to the new year, noted that it reflects the steady improvement and functionality of Abia State’s primary healthcare system.

    She enjoined expectant and nursing mothers across the state to have confidence in government-owned health facilities and make proper use of them.

    She also offered prayers for the newborn and urged the parents to raise her with strong moral values that would positively shape her future.

    The Commissioner for Health, Professor Enoch Uche, commended Mrs. Otti for her consistent support of the health sector, highlighting her contributions in complementing the reforms of the governor in strengthening healthcare delivery across the state.

    Wife of Abia State Governor, Mrs. Priscilla Otti, has come to the aid of Mrs. Ifeoma Ehighibe, who was delivered of quadruplets at Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Umuahia, assuring the family of sustained support.

    Mrs. Ehighibe, from Umuabali in Umuahia South, who has two children, welcomed three boys and a girl through a Cesarean Section on Thursday.

    Represented by Commissioner for Women Affairs, Dr. Maureen Aghukwa, Mrs. Otti said she mobilised her team to ensure the mother and children received care, describing the birth as “a miracle for the family and for Abia State.”

    Noting the economic realities, she pledged assistance to the family, stressing raising six children would not be easy.

    “We will not stop at visiting them in the hospital. We will stand by this family to ensure they raise these children successfully,” she said.

    She used the opportunity to encourage husbands, especially those whose wives have multiple babies, not to abandon their families.

    “My office will support families with multiple births. No woman should struggle alone after bringing such joy into the world,” she noted.

    Mrs. Otti highlighted her office’s broader initiatives to support working mothers. She crèche facilities would be available to create a baby-friendly environment for nursing mothers in civil service.

    She noted the initiative is to enhance productivity while ensuring proper childcare.

    The governor’s wife encouraged mothers to embrace exclusive breastfeeding, stressing it ensures healthy growth and development in infants.

    She reiterated that the administration of Governor Alex Otti is committed to smart health and social policies that people, and lauded FMC health workers for their efforts in ensuring safe deliveries.

    Medical Director, represented by Head of Nursing, Mrs. Nnenna Imo, appreciated Governor Alex Otti and his wife for prioritising welfare of Abia women.

    She said Mrs. Otti is a regular visitor to FMC, making life easier for vulnerable patients, with bills often settled through her interventions.

    Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Women Affairs, Mrs. Chinenye Nwaka, said the visit is timely and impactful, noting it brought joy and relief to families.

    The father, Chibueze Ehighibe, who works with Nigerian Correctional Centre in Afara, Umuahia North, thanked the governor’s wife for remembering his family.

    He prayed for the first family, and thanked the nurses and doctors for their support.

    Ehighibe said although multiple births run in his family, this was the first quadruplet delivery in the lineage.

    The visit was capped with donation of baby clothes, diapers, food items, bags of rice, household essentials, and cash to the Ehighibe family. Other nursing mothers at FMC also got gifts from the delegation.
