    Makinde’s wife donates stationery to students in Oyo

    Wife of Oyo Governor, Mrs Tamunominini Makinde, has donated writing materials to public schools across the state as part of activities marking the 50th anniversary of the creation of Oyo state.

    She described education as greatest legacy that can be passed on to future generations.

    Mrs Makinde said the initiative was deliberately designed to place children at the centre of the Oyo@50 celebrations.

    She stated that the growth and stability of the state depend largely on quality of education given to its young population.

    According to her: “Our children are the future of Oyo State. The state belongs to you, and if you work hard, you will inherit it and take it forward.”

    She thanked teachers and members of the Oyo@50 Anniversary Planning Committee for making the programme possible.

    According to her, education remained the most effective tool for breaking the cycle of poverty and empowering individuals to contribute meaningfully to society.

    “Education is the greatest legacy we, as a government and as parents, can give to our children. When you are educated, you can lift yourself out of poverty, defend your family with a strong voice and make informed decisions for yourself and for the future of Oyo State.”

    Mrs Makinde urged beneficiaries of the stationeries to make proper use of it, calling on them to cultivate strong reading habits and remain focused on their academic pursuits.

    “As you receive these materials today, do not forget to enrich your brain. Read your books, make the best use of this stationery and continue to work hard. Your education is important for the growth and development of Oyo State.”

    Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Hon. Olusegun Olayiwola, described the initiative as a strategic investment in the state’s future, noting that access to basic learning materials plays a critical role in improving educational outcomes.

    “This programme reflects the commitment of the Oyo State Government to strengthening public education. By supporting our students with learning materials, we are laying a solid foundation for academic excellence and ensuring that no child is left behind.”

    He commended teachers for their dedication and urged students to remain disciplined and committed to their studies.

    Wife of Oyo Governor, Mrs Tamunominini Makinde has reiterated commitment of the State Government to support for widows and the less privileged.

    Mrs Makinde, while reflecting on challenges faced by widows, celebrated their courage and resilience in the face of those challenges.

    Speaking in Ibadan at a program theme:” Accelerating the achievements of gender equality for widows” to commemorate this year’s International Widows Day, Mrs Makinde, who was represented by lawmaker representing Ogbomosho North Constituency 1 at the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Bisi Oluranti lamented that widows have been facing stigma, economic hardship, harmful traditional practices, while some of them have even been denied their inheritance.

    The Governor’s wife also distributed food items, cash and others to widows at the event.

    According to her: “This year’s theme is calling on us to do more than just acknowledge these challenges, but rather transform our sympathy into services, and our concern into concrete action, widowhood should not be a sentence of suffering.

    “Widows often bear the weight of profound loss. You not only lose your life partners but, at times, you also lose your security, social status, and hope for the future. Yet, despite these hardships, many of you stand as pillars of strength within your families and communities. 

    “You are mothers, caretakers, entrepreneurs, leaders, and I salute your courage in the face of adversity.

    “In order for us to accelerate the achievement of gender equality for widows in line with this year’s theme, all of us including civil society, religious leaders, and families must work together in creating supportive environments for widows.

    “We must ensure widows have access to legal protections, economic empowerment programs, healthcare services, and psychosocial support. We must also challenge the cultural norms that discriminate against widows and ensure they are treated with dignity and respect.

    “To all the widows here today, your pain is acknowledged and your strength is celebrated. This day belongs to you, not as a reminder of loss, but as a celebration of your courage and promise of continued support.”

    Makinde’s wife urges citizens on farming

    Wife of Oyo State Governor, Mrs Tamunominini Makinde, has urged citizens to embark on farming, to boost food production.

    She said: “Every Home a Garden Initiative’ by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, in partnership with the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), under the leadership of First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, will encourage people to have gardens in their homes, where they can produce food that will be sufficient for their families, and by extension, their neighbours.’’

    Addressing participants at the event in Ibadan, Mrs Makinde, the RHI coordinator in Oyo State, says by cultivating gardens within homes, people are taking proactive steps towards reducing food scarcity, improving nutrition and fostering self-reliance among families in Oyo State and across Nigeria.

    Mrs Makinde, represented by the Commissioner for Special Duties, Alhaja Faosat Sanni, said: “This initiative offers an opportunity to integrate urban and rural households into productive farming, ensuring no home is left behind in the journey toward a food-secure future.’’

    Makinde’s wife celebrates 64th independence with orphanages

    Wife of Oyo Governor Mrs Tamunominini Makinde has celebrated Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day with children from various orphanages homes across the State.

    The gesture, according to the Governor’s wife, is to demonstrate her commitment to giving back to the community, particularly those in need.

    Mrs Makindes also distributed gifts, food, and other essential items to bring joy and hope to the the children at the event.

    Speaking while playing host to the motherless children, Mrs Makindes who was represented by the Head of Service (HoS), Mrs. Olubunmi Oni, urged Nigerians to take the Independence Day as an opportunity to think about how to better and support one another.

    He said every one should think about how to build communities where differences are not just accepted but celebrated, where everyone’s voice is heard, and where no one is left behind.

    According to her, Nigerians must remember that the progress of the nation is deeply tied to how they care for, support, and empower every member of the society, adding that nobody should be left behind, and no dream should be out of reach because of disability.

    She called on all Nigerians to embrace diversity and work together to build a society where every child is empowered to succeed, noting that together, Nigerians can create a nation that celebrates inclusion, embraces differences, and ensures a bright future for all.

    According to her: “This day is special because it reminds us of the values, we hold dear as a nation-equality, inclusion, and the belief that every individual, regardless of ability or background, has something unique and valuable to contribute.

    “Our diversity is not just a feature of our nation; it is one of those things that make us unique, capable, and full of potential. Every single one of you here today is a reflection of that diversity, and I am here to remind you that no challenge or obstacle can stand in the way of your greatness.

    “To the parents and caregivers, I want to acknowledge your tireless dedication, your endless love, and your incredible efforts in nurturing these wonderful children. You are true heroes, and your role in their lives is invaluable. The road may not always be easy, but know that your commitment makes a profound difference.

    “To all the children here, always remember that you are strong and you are loved. I encourage you to keep dreaming big, keep believing in yourselves, and know that you are capable of achieving anything you set your hearts and minds to. You are not defined by your disabilities but rather, by your abilities, your spirit, and your limitless potential.

    “Let me also add that Her Excellency, the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu OON, on the platform of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) in her magnanimity has also donated clothing items and toys to the homes present here today.”
