Chelsea’S 2014 Squad Mourinho lifts Omeruo to first team

Kenneth Omeruo received a massive boost to his Chelsea future after manager Jose Mourinho ordered he stopped training with the reserves.

“Mourinho has directed that Kenneth only train with the main squad of Chelsea and no longer with the reserves. This clearly shows the increased confidence the coach has in the player,” Omeruo’s adviser Chika Akujobi informed MTNFootball.com.

However, it is most likely that the Nigerian defender will still be shipped out on loan when the winter transfer window opens next month.

“Chelsea are studying various loan offers for Kenneth. They want him to enjoy regular playing time and so will work with a club who can guarantee this. But most importantly they want him to stay back in England,” Akujobi said.

There have been several interests for the Eagles star mostly from clubs in the English Championship.

Omeruo, who first played on loan for a season and a half at Dutch club, ADO Den Haag, will need to start playing first-team football in the new year, which is also a World Cup year.

Ex-La Liga ace Lawal trains with Sunshine

Former Atletico Madrid winger Abbas Muyiwa Lawal has begun training with Nigeria league club Sunshine Stars with a view of joining them.

MTNFootball.com learnt that the 33-year-old Lawal has been part of Sunshine’s pre-season training camp in Rojenny, near Onitsha.

Lawal, younger brother of former Nigeria international Dimeji Lawal, featured for Atletico in the 2000/2001 season.

He also featured for several other Spanish clubs including Albacete and Xerez before he moved to the United Arab Emirates in 2005.

He is a talented forward who weighs in with his own fair share of goals, but injuries have often stalled his progress.

Several other top stars including goalkeepers Dele Ajiboye and Godwin Ayalogu from Enugu Rangers are currently training with Sunshine.

Sunshine coach Henry Abiodun is set to pick his final squad for the coming season at the end of the training camp in Rojenny this weekend.

Last season, the Akure club finished a disappointing 12th on the league table with 52 points from 38 matches.

Eaglets star Alampasu for Belgian club, Genk

Best goalkeeper at the 2013 U17 World Cup Dele Alampasu is set to complete a move to Belgian side Genk.

Alampasu, who helped Nigeria to win the U17 World Cup, has been invited to the home-based Eagles preparing for the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) billed for next month in South Africa.

The agent who brokered the deal for Alampasu, Goke Oshotoba, told MTNFootball.com: “Everything has been concluded with the club but the player won’t join the team until after CHAN.

“The good thing about this deal is that Genk came after the player on their own after watching him at the U17 World Cup. So, they have agreed to have him go get more experience at CHAN if he eventually makes the final squad to the Championship.”

However, Oshotoba will not divulge the financial details of Alampasu’s contract.

“It would not be right to give you details of the contract. When the time is right we will let all that out but now all I can confirm to you is that Dele Alampasu has agreed to join the Belgian side Genk.”

MARCH 5 WORLD CUP FRIENDLY : Eagles to play unnamed Europe foe-NFF

The Super Eagles will kick off their World Cup build-up with a friendly on March 5 in Europe, officials have informed MTNFootball.com. However, an opponent has yet to be named.

“We will make use of the first FIFA friendly window on March 5 and so play a friendly in Europe,” General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Musa Amadu, told MTNFootball.com.

Amadu also disclosed that the NFF will hope to soon conclude on major decisions on the preparations for the World Cup.

“Issues like the training base and opponents for friendly matches will soon be decided on after last week’s draw in Brazil,” Amadu said.

He told MTNFootball.com he was not aware of a proposed friendly between Nigeria and England in Nigeria in March.

Last week, a section of the media reported a major brewery was planning a friendly for the Eagles against fellow World Cup finalists England to be played in Nigeria as part of the build-up to Brazil 2014.

Nigeria are drawn against Argentina, Iran and Bosnia-Herzegovina in the first round. They open their campaign on June 16 against Iran in Curtiba.
