    Olamide, Reminisce, others for MTV Base TV Special

    Some of the biggest music artistes in Nigeria will appear in an all new MTV Base television special.

    The first of many programmes from MTV Base for 2016 is the programme titled: “MTV Base Lagos Party Special“, which Olamide and Steph_1will premiere on Saturday, 23rd of January.

    Featuring a headline performance from Olamide in addition to sizzling performances by Lil Kesh, Falz, Adekunle Gold, Niniola, May D, CDQ, Immaculate, Big Sheff, Viktoh, JJC, DJ Xclusive, DJ ECool.

    Also expected at the Ikeja City Mall, venue of the event hosted by MTV Base, VJs Ehiz, Stephanie Coker and City 105.1 FM’s Sensei Uche and C-Von, include Wande Coal, Reminisce, Phyno and many others, the MTV Base Lagos Party Special held.

    The show will feature exclusive interviews, party footage and backstage access to the stars, giving viewers a complete experience of one of the biggest Lagos party nights ever.

    The MTV Base Lagos Party Special will be on MTV Base (DSTV Channel 322) by 8:00pm same day.

    Similarly, the pan-African music and lifestyle channel has concluded plans to air exclusive red carpet fashion police special, titled: #BaseSlayedorShade on Sunday, January 24th.

    MTV Base’ Behind the Story hosts AKA

    MTV Base’ VJ, Sizwe Dhlomo, today, hosts an exclusive  and candid interview, with South African Hip Hop sensation, AKA, as the channel aims to find out the story Behind The Story with the rapper.

    To the public, he is AKA, the controversial and multi award winning global artist, but to those that know him he is Kiernan Forbes – a father and a businessman who will give his all for his one passion – music.

    A two part encounter, the first of the Behind the Story interview premieres on MTV Base (DStv channel 322 and GOtv Plus channel 72) today at 4pm while the second part will be aired tomorrow at 10am.

    No stranger to controversy and speaking his mind, AKA – currently in the running for “Best African Act” at the 2015 MTV EMAs chose to sit down with MTV Base and speak openly on a range of issues following media frenzy about revelations in his personal life.

    In the interview session, AKA opens up about the break up with his baby mama, DJ Zinhle. “I made choices that might have put me before her, or before my child or before my family,” he reveals.

    He also talks about his life as a father of a two month old baby girl, Kairo, his rivalry and notorious feud with Cassper Nyovest. “I never back down from challenges and I don’t view it as a distraction, I view it as, this is part of my career, this is what it is,” the artiste continues.

    His alleged new girlfriend Bonang Matheba is also a topic of discussion. “Things are tough right now between everybody involved in this saga,” he said.

    MTV Base Top 10: Patoranking displaces Korede from #2 spot

    Patoranking’s hit single, My Woman, My Everything has knocked off Korede Bello’s Godwin from the number two spot of the MTV Base Official Naija Top 10 music chart.

    The video of the Foston music act’s single which features Black Diamond’s singer, Wande Coal was shot by UK-based director, Moe Musa.

    Godwin is now on the number three spot followed by other amazing videos such as Runtown’s Banger, Reekado Bank’s Katapot and Seyi Shay’s Right Now which made its debut on the chart last week.

    Meanwhile, Olamide’s Shakiti Bobo video has remained on the number one spot for the sixth week running. Other hit videos on the chart are Timaya’s So More, Fans Mi from Davido, Ashimapeyin by Wande Coal and debut entry, Do Something by Chocolate City signee, Koker.

    This week’s edition also featured singer, Bigiano who delivered a fantastic freestyle session before giving away autographed CDs and poster,

    ‘On this week’s give away, I’m giving out two autographed CDs and poster and I’m going to say one word, just stay positive, believe in God first and don’t do drugs’ he said.

    •As Seyi Shay, Runtown return

    Olamide’s hit track, Shakiti bobo and Korede Bello’s Godwin have maintained the top two positions on the Official MTV Base Naija Top 10 chart for the fourth week running.

    However, Seyi Shay’s song, Right Now and Runtown’s Banger have successfully returned to the chart at the number 10 and 7 spots respectively.

    The videos directed by Meji Alabi and Justin Campos hit the airwaves a few weeks ago and have since taken over the streets, clubs and airwaves. The chart also features the Clarence Peters directed video,Asai by indigenous rapper, Phyno, Reekado Banks’s Katapot and So More from Dem Mama singer, Timaya.

    Gambit Records signee and guest of the week, Mz Kiss also brings her A-game on the show dropping exciting bars during her freestyle before giving out autographed CDs to three fans.

    Kiss Daniel, Wizkid battle for lead on MTV Base Top 10

    For four consecutive weeks, Woju, the popular hit by Kiss Daniel, has maintained the number one spot on MTV Base Official Naija Top 10, edging out Wizkid’s Ojuelegba, its closest contender.

    The song did not just shoot up from Day 1, as it entered the countdown five weeks ago at number four, but immediately climbed to number one the following week, and retaining same ahead of Ojuelegba, Wizkid’s street anthem.

    Davido’s The Sound also maintained number three, where it was last week.

    This week’s edition of the weekly countdown show was co-hosted by Beat FM’s on-air-personality, Osi Suave, who treated viewers and regular host VJ Ehiz to a humorous freestyle to Lil Kesh’s streetbanger, Shoki.

    Orezi’s Shuperu moves up two spots to number four this week and Banky W’s directorial debut Unborn Child drops one spot to number five. DJ Jimmy Jatt’s Glasses Up is up two positions to number eight and Runtown’s The Latest drops three spots to number 10.

    Patoranking is MTV Base Artiste of the Month

    Following his recent string of successes, including several hit singles and industry awards, MTV Base is honouring reggae dance hall singer, Patoranking, with a month-long showcase, chronicling his meteoric rise to fame.

    Although the singer is just planning the release of his debut album, he has been so busy with performances across the continent, gaining popularity by the day as a sought-after artiste for collaboration by co-singers.

    Born in 1990 in Lagos, Patoranking who hails from Ebonyi State, started his performing arts career as a street gig and carnival dancer. He released his first single So Nice in 2009 and he followed this up with Up In The Club in 2010. In 2012, he released Iya Bisi which did well and opened up opportunities for him to work with more artistes. 2013 saw Patoranking’s release of Park Well and Tonight featuring Faze, which also did well. His first breakout hit single Alubarika came in 2013. The song, which featured acclaimed afro-dancehall artiste Timaya became a nationwide anthem, which helped Patoranking build a large fanbase and work with a number of established artists in a string of collaborations.

    In the intervening period, Patoranking has worked with big names in the music industry such as Sheyi Shay, Tiwa Savage, Skales, Runtown and Wizzy Pro on a number of collaborations. His monster track, Girlie O featuring Tiwa Savage was listed on the MTV Base Official Naija Top Ten Hottest Videos Of The Year and he won five awards in 2014.

    The 24-year-old artiste recently signed a distribution deal with VP Associated Label Group, the world’s largest reggae music distribution company, home to several international reggae stars such as Sean Paul, Beenie Man, Elephant Man, Lady Saw, Mavado, Busy Signal, Shaggy and Gyptian. Patoranking’s profile will be run on MTV Base throughout the month of March.

    MTV Base Val winners to see Basketmouth’s London show

    A lucky couple, Jeremiah Alao and Abiola Olaniyi, have been declared winners of the MTV Base Valentine’s competition tagged #FromBaseWithLove.

    Organizers say the duo will be flown to London, courtesy of Virgin Atlantic, and will enjoy exclusive access to see Basketmouth, Wizkid, Patoranking and Olamide at the Basketmouth Live In Concert show on February 14. They are also expected to feature in the show, A Day in the Life: BasketMouth, which will premiere on Tuesday, March 17th on MTV Base at 18:00 WAT.

    Alao and Olaniyi defeated thousands who took part in the “kiss selfie” competition with a romantic but fun photo taken in front of the BasketMouth hosted promo on MTV Base, Channel 322 on DSTV.

  • MTV Base reveals NAIJA TOP 10 hottest videos of the year

    RUNTOWN’S Gallardo, has topped the chart in this week’s episode of MTV Base Official Naija Top 10. The video was said to have stayed most on the number one spot for many weeks during the course of the year.

    Hosted by MTV Base VJs Stephanie Coker and Ehiz Okoeguale, Gallardo was followed by Davido’s Aye and Dr Sid’s Surulere in the second and third spots respectively.

    Other videos that made the list include Jaiye Jaiye and Show you the money by Wizkid; Yawa dey and Don Gorgon by Burna Boy; Girlie O by Patoranking; Turn Up by Olamide and Dorobucci by The Mavins crew.

    Winners emerge at MTV VMAs

    IN what has been described as an epic night of music enchanting performances and unpredictable moments, MTV Base, on Sunday, August 24, hosted the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards.

    The awards, which held at the Forum, Inglewood in California, had Beyoncé welcome MTV and the audience to earth- shattering performances of hits from her visual album, Beyoncé.

    The singer broke Justin Timberlake’s 2013 record for the longest VMA performance ever. She was joined by her husband, Jay Z and baby, Blue Ivy unexpectedly joining her on stage for a highly emotional moment as her family presented her with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.

    She also won the greatest number of awards of the evening, including Best Collaboration for Drunk in Love and Best Video with a Message” for Pretty Hurts.

    Miley Cyrus shocked the world by leaving her twerking ways behind her and delivering a heart-felt message as she took away the Video of the Year award. A former homeless youth in Los Angeles named Jesse took the stage in her place to accept her award on behalf of the 1.6 million runaways and homeless youths in the U.S.

    From the side of the stage, Miley teared up watching him make a call to action, directing fans to her Facebook page to join the fight to end youth homelessness. Jesse ended with an emotional quote: “A dream you dream alone is only a dream. A dream you dream together is a reality.”

    Multi-platinum global R&B star, Usher, also delivered a funk-filled performance of his single, Give it to You, bringing the audience to their feet and surprising everyone when Nicki Minaj, once again, returned to join him on  the stage during their charged set.

    THE ASCENSION: MTV Base hosts Tuface

    ON Wednesday, July 23, MTV Base played host to one of Africa’s biggest artistes, Tuface Idibia, at the launch of his sixth album, The Ascension, at Spice Route Nightclub, Victoria Island, Lagos.

    The event, which was held in conjunction with Industry Nite, had some of the biggest names in the Nigerian entertainment industry in attendance.

    With scintillating performances from Timaya, Oritsefemi, Julius Agwu, Dammy Krane and others, the artiste performed two songs off The Ascension album with his live band.

    Guests at the launch hosted by Stephanie of MTV Base and Olisa Adibua were Awilo, MTV VJ Ehiz Okoeguale, Wande Coal, Eddy Lawani, Reminisce, IllBliss, Mode9, Chidinma, Timi Dakolo, Solid Star, Olisa Adibua, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, Gbenga Ajibade, Dr Sid and DJ Spinall, among others.

    Meanwhile, the Tuface has also featured in a Go performance at the St. Kitts Music Festival alongside multiple award-winning Trinidadian Superstar Soca artiste, Machel Montano.
