  • Evil spirit made me rape minor – Suspect

    20 –year- old Sagir Umar has been arrested for raping a four- year- old girl, claiming he was pushed into the act by evil spirits.

    The Nation learnt that Umar lured the victim into his room with N10 in Abdulsalam quarters in Minna where he forcefully had carnal knowledge of her.

    The suspect said he could not fathom how he came about having sexual intercourse with the minor.

    “It looks like evil spirit is controlling my life otherwise why should it happen?

    “Imagine myself sleeping with a 4- year- old girl. It looks ridiculous that I found myself in this mess.

    “How do I explain this to my parents that I raped a girl of four?. The shame is unbelievable.”

    Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, Muhammad Abubakar said the suspect was apprehended by a team of police detectives attached to Maitumbi Division after the victim’s mother reported the case.

    He said the suspect had confessed to the crime during interrogation, adding the command would ensure that rapists have no peace in the state.

    “We cannot allow rapists to take over Niger state; we will continue to arrest them and deal with them in accordance with the law,” he vowed.

  • Lawyers mobilize 50 counsels to defend Bauchi Governor Elect in Court

    No fewer than fifty Lawyers have voluntarily offered free legal services in defense of the mandate of the Bauchi Governor-Elect, Sen. Bala A. Mohammad at the Election Petition Tribunal .

    This was disclosed by a group known as the Body of Bauchi Lawyers of Conscience (BOBOLAC )

    BOBOLAC said the development was in response to the decision by the outgoing Governor of Bauchi state, Muhammad Abubakar and the All Progressive Congress, APC, to challenge the victory of the Governor Elect.

    In a press statement  made available to newsmen on Saturday , the convener of the group , Shipi Rabo Esq said ” We convey our assurances to his Excellency The Governor- Elect and indeed the people of Bauchi state that we are deploying the services of not less than 50 counsels which include some very senior colleagues and successfully tested hands to compliment the efforts of the legal team to defend the peoples mandate in terms of the impending election petition to be filed by Governor Abubakar ”

    ” Having said this , we also wish to observe that Governor Abubakar ‘s latest move to go to to tribunal in respect of the election smacks of double speak ( and with due respect to him and the APC ),  insincerity. This is because as we have had occasions to observe, Governor M.A. was among the first people to call on Wazirin Adamawa Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to concede defeat in the presidential election and take the result in good faith”

    “The issue here is that our own Makama Babba in Bauchi is for all intent and purposes not walking the talk. Having initially conceded defeat and congratulated Kauran Bauchi knowing fully well that it is the wish of the people; Mr. Abubakar should have stick to his words. That is how statemen behave”

    Shipi stated though that the group has no problem   with the governor going to the tribunal saying it is a welcome development   which will afford it to use its God-given skills to defend the people’s mandate as given to the Governor-Elect”

    “What we consider wrong is the governor portraying the whole matter of going to the tribunal as being the decision of so, so and so person while in reality it is not”

    It would be recall that the outgoing Governor of Bauchi State, Mohammed Abubakar  disclosed last week that  his party, the All Progressives Congress has assembled four SANs to challenge his electoral defeat in court.

    Abubakar who returned to the state after spending over one week in Abuja  making consultations with the Presidency and the national leadership of the APC, backed down on  his earlier decision to concede defeat.

  • Niger imposes curfew on commercial motorcycles

    The Niger state Police Command has announced ban of commercial motorcycle in Minna metropolis and its environs due to the influx of armed bandits into the state.

    The ban, which was announced in a statement by the Niger state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Muhammad Abubakar, takes effect from Thursday, April 4.

    He said the ban is in the continuous effort to nib in the bud cases of violent crimes across the state, especially armed bandits who use motorcycles to perpetrate heinous crimes across the state.

    “The Niger State Police Command wishes to inform the general public on the ban of commercial motorcycles in Minna metropolis and environs from 9.00 pm to 6.00 am.

    “This is in line with the provisions of the traffic law cap 118 law of Niger State 1989 and Restriction on the Use of Motorcycles Order 2012.”

    The Police assured the public of its determination to double effort to stem the tide of crimes in the state, vowing the order will strictly be enforced across the state to bring the perpetrators to book.

  • Housewife kills stepdaughter with ‘Otapiapia’ in Niger

    A 20-year -old woman, Zulac Kabiru has confessed to killing her eight month old step daughter, Rukaiya Kabiru, to teach her co-wife how to respect ‘her superior’ by giving her local insecticide ‘otapiapia’ to drink.

    Zulac who was arrested by the police in Niger State for allegedly killing her eight month old step daughter at Danauta village in the Mariga Local Government Area of the state said that the second wife had the habit of insulting and assaulting her so she decided to poison her daughter.

    The suspect was said to have secretly given the baby the locally made insecticide popularly known as ‘otapiapia’ to drink which resulted to her death.

    It was gathered that the suspect and her fellow wife had not been in good terms for a long time; facts gathered also revealed that the first wife resented the marriage to the second wife.

    Speaking to newsmen when she was paraded, she said, “I warned my husband to desist from getting another wife in the family but he could not listen. The second wife was  in the habit of insulting and assaulting me at all times and one day I decided to poison her eight month old daughter to death to increase her sorrow in the family, so that she  will learn how to respect her superior in the family.

    “Before my husband married her whom I kicked against, we have been living in peace but when she came she divide the family. My husband gave her more attention than myself and since then our family had been in shambles, “she explained.

    Zulac said that she did not know when she carried out the act stating that it was the work of the devil, “it was the work of devil, I don’t know when I did it trust me, it is a wicked act.”

    The Police Public Relations Officer, Muhammad Abubakar said the suspect would  would be arraigned in court after investigation.

  • Woman kidnaps neighbor’s child for N5, 000

    A 25 year old woman, Safiya Idris has been caught by the Niger state Police for kidnapping a three year old child of her neighbor for N5, 000.

    The mother of four who is working for a handful was convinced to kidnap the child in order for her to get money to start a business.

    The Suspect was given N5,000 as her transportation to cross the child from Pandogari in Rafi Local Government Area of Niger state to Kastina state.

    The suspected kidnapper was arrested by the police detectives attached to Kagara Division before she could take the child across to Kastina state.

    When paraded by the Police, Safiya blamed her father for making her go into kidnapping adding that the inability of the father to train her properly led her into the crime world.

    “My father did not consider it necessary to train me to be responsible, otherwise why should I involve myself in this wicked act. Why should I even kidnap my neighbor’s child who always play with my own children, it is unfortunate.

    “I do not think that Allah and my neighbours will forgive me for what I did to this little girl, in fact, I do not deserve to be alive to face all this shame.”

    The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Muhammad Abubakar said that the suspect confessed that some kidnappers gave her N5 000 to kidnap the child and bring it to them in Kastina.

    He said that the victim had been released to her parents adding that the police are on the trail of the other fleeing members of the gang.

     

  • Police smash syndicate specialized in issuing kidnapping threats

    Niger State Police Command has apprehended a syndicate of kidnappers that specializes in sending kidnap threats to victims in order to get paid.

    The suspects, Kabiru Madawaki, 26, Samaila Wanka, 35 and 20 years old Abubakar Umar. Others are Yushau Audi and Mohammed Sani from Mariga and Mashegun local government areas

    They were trailed  and arrested by a team of police detectives attached to the Command Special Anti-robbery Squad based on a tip-off.

    Abubakar Madawaki was arrested after a business man, Alhaji Bahago reported to the police that a gang of kidnappers called him demanding N2 million or risk being kidnapped as he was said to have been called some years back to pay the sum of N500, 000 to avoid being kidnapped which he paid to them.

    The Police swung into action and arrested Abubakar who is part of a three man syndicate of kidnappers while the others are still at large.

    Kabiru Madawaki and Samaila Wanka who were arrested in Mariga had threatened three victims with kidnapping and received the total sum of N700, 000 from the victims.

    While Yushau Audu and Mohammed Sani wrote a threat letter to their victim demanding a sum of N4 million to avoid being kidnapped but were apprehended before they received the amount.

    When paraded by the Police in Minna, Abubakar Umar described kidnapping as a deadly game of chance and full of risk at which one either succeeds or get arrested.

    “For one to survive in this country you must take risk otherwise people will look at you as a lazy man. I did not have any formal education, the farm work l am into is not yielding good money and that was why I joined the fast lane to make money.

    “We make cool money in this business, most at times we call our rich victims to go to a particular spot to drop the ransom or faced being kidnapped and honestly they will do as we said because they are not ready to risk their lives.”

    He added that he did not regret his action in engaging in kidnapping, “I am not regretting anything. As i said earlier, kidnapping business is full of risk you either succeed or you are trapped now that I am in police net Allah knows the best.”

    The Police Public Relations Officer, Muhammad Abubakar said that security operatives recovered one fabricated SMG rifle with five ammunitions from Umar while effort is intensified to arrest the two fleeing suspects.

    The Spokesman said investigation was on going, adding that the suspect would be arraigned in court soon.

  • Bida Clash: One student dead, 13 arrested

    ….Institution Set up Investigation Committee

    One student have been confirmed dead in the clash between the students of The Federal Polytechnic Bida and commercial drivers.

    13 people, majority of who are students, have been apprehended by the Policemen during the course of the crisis.

    The Niger state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Muhammad Abubakar who disclosed this to The Nation said that the suspects are currently in the Bida Area Commander office.

    He said that 40 mobile policemen and 20 conventional policemen have been sent to Bida to ensure calm in the town.

    Abubakar also said that a lot of students were injured but could not ascertain the number while a lot of motorcycles were burnt during the course of the protest.

    In a release signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Federal Polytechnic Bida, Husseni Enagi said that the management have constituted an investigation committee to look into the remote and immediate cause of the crisis, ascertain the number of casualties, identify the extent of damages and determine the cost implications involve.

    He added that the committee was also mandated to apportion blame where necessary and come up with recommendation in order to forestall future occurance, entertain complainant from the public and suggestions on peaceful resolution on the way forward.

    Enagi appealed to all staff, students, members of the road transportation union and indigenes to allow peace to reign and not to take any action capable of constituting a threat to the peace already restored.

    Assuring the students of their safety, the release urged them to go about their normal academic activities stressing that the school remains open and the examination timetable remains unchanged.

  • Our Projects ‘ll be completed – Bauchi Finance Commissioner

    Bauchi state government has assured that all ongoing projects it initiated  will be completed  in the 2018 fiscal year to  pave way for sustainable development in the state.

    Bauchi state commissioner of Finance and Economic Development Mr. Garba Sarki Akuyam, gave the assurance in Bauchi while speaking to reporters on the recent assent of the 2018 Appropriation Bill by state Governor,Muhammad Abubakar.

    Akuyam opined that “with the signing of the budget, Bauchi people should expect the execution of more development projects and programmes in all parts of the state”.

    He also said”the state government plans to embark on massive construction of rural roads across the state,and to begin mechanization of agriculture to enhance food security in the state”.

    Bauchi has earmarked N167,899,220,800 Billion in 2018.

    Of this N99,936,650,43 for capital projects,N67,962,570,757 Billion for recurrent expenditure, N23.3 billion allocated to for general administration.

    While over N61.4 has been assigned to economic sector, N5 billion for law and justice sector.regional development sector got over N5.2 billion,social development took  N59.5 billion  with consolidated revenue charges at N12.7 billion.

    According to the commissioner”state government projects total of N132,478,369  as internally generated revenue”.

    Commenting on priority areas of the budget, Akuyam  said Ministry of Education has taken 19 percent of the budget,while Health  got 16 percent, Ministry of Works and Agriculture and Natural Resources is given 15 percent .

    In addition the state government will diversify its revenue sources to reduce to reduce much reliance on allocation from the federal And appealed to Bauchi people to support and cooperate with the state government to deliver dividends of democracy to them.

  • I love wearing Uniform to intimidate people – Fake soldier

     

    A 35 year old man, Salisu Useini has been arrested by the Police in Niger state for parading himself as a soldier.

    Useini, a motorsaw operator at Tufa Village of Gurara Local Government Area in Niger confessed that he has passion for the army profession and loves using it to intimidate the people.

    “I love wearing uniform to intimidate people so as to have my way. I do not use it to rob people, I just love wearing army uniform to move about.”

    The ‘fake soldier’s said he had no regrets dressing like a soldier adding that he would do it again if given the chance, “I have no regrets in dressing like a soldier because this is what I like doing, if given opportunity again I will wear it provided I don’t rob people with it, he unrepentantly declared.”

    The father of four who was apprehended by the anti-kidnapping squad attached to Gurara following a tip-off have been said to be parading himself as a soldier for the past five years in Tufa village of Gurara.

    It was learnt that Useini who wears the army uniform on a daily basis use it to molest the community and cause trouble in the entire Gurara area.

    The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Muhammad Abubakar while parading the fake soldier said Army Cap, trousers, police belt and 15 photographs of him on army uniform were recovered from him adding that the suspect could not give any satisfactory account on how he got the uniforms.
