  • 17 kilometres irrigation project to cost $32m in Jigawa

    Jigawa State Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar has expressed satisfaction with the rate of work on the ongoing 17 kilometres irrigation project, which is estimated to cost $37 million.

    It is being handled by the Great Northern Agriculture Limited.

    The project is for 12,000 hectares of sugarcane plantation in Gagarawa Local Government Area.

    The governor, who spoke during an unscheduled visit to the Jigawa Sugar Factory project in Grain Ciroma in Gagarawa Local Government Area, said the project would succeed by the special grace of God since it was going ahead as scheduled.

    Abubakar also expressed happiness on sugar cane yields from the seed plantation averaging 100 tonnes per hectare.

    He assured the management of Great Northern Agriculture Limited of the state government’s commitment to the actualisation of the project.

    He said no amount of blackmail would deter the project.

    The firm’s top management took the governor on tour of the plantation.

    They said the plantation extended to 150 hectares in the first phase, adding that it would reach 1,000 hectares by the end of the year to meet the 12,000-hectare target in three years.

    The plantation has the largest and most sophisticated fertigation plant in the country. It has a fully computerised control room regulating irrigation, fertiliser and pesticide application throughout the plantation as well as automatically using sensors in the field.

    The project, which will produce 100,000 tonnes of sugar when completed, would also have a fertiliser plant, seasoning factory as well as generate about five megawatts of power.

    It’s in line with the state government’s resolve to promote mega agric investments and save the country scarce foreign exchange from import substitution.

     

  • ‘I fulfilled over 90% of my first term campaign promises’

    The Jigawa state governor, Alhaji Muhammad Badaru Abubakar said his administration fulfilled over 90 percent of his 2015 campaigns made to electorate before his first term election.

    The governor made the disclosure on Sunday at Ringim town the headquarter of Ringim local government area in the state while addressing political crowd during his campaign visit to the town, said “apart from that, all the projects abandoned by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have now being completed by the All Progressive Congress (APC)’s government both at the state and federal levels”.

    Alhaji Muhammadu Badaru Abubakar pointed out that APC as a party is willing to take the state through various developmental projects to the next level.

    According to him “roads such as Shuwarin to Kwanan Huguma, Kano Maiduguri which was awarded several years ago and were not completed by the past administration are now almost completed”.

    He faulted the statement made by the former Jigawa state Governor Sule Lamido on the River Hadejia Jama’are Basin Development as misleading.

    “As he said that there are one Million hectres of farm land (hectre1M) waiting for Atiku to do the job is not true. If he had used calculator, he would have known the exactly hectres of farm land that there.

    “And already the work is ongoing now, because the contract has been re-awarded by the present APC’s led federal government to remove the typher grasses and expand the river bank”, he stressed.

    He therefore urged members of the APC to continue supporting the party and take it to the next level to enable them continue with the good works they are presently.

     

  • NCC Boss Bags Heroes’ Award, Cautions Youths On Leadership

    The Executive Vice Chairman of National Communication Commission (NCC), Prof. Umar Garba Dambatta on Saturday in Kano decried the nonchalant attitude of Nigerian youths towards carving a niche for themselves so as to contribute to national development.

    Dambatta who was among prominent Nigerians that received Kano Heroes Award 2018, held in Coronation Hall, Government House, organized by Destiny Channels Broadcasting Network, advised the youths to brace up to the challenges of the time and remain focused so as to succeed in their chosen endeavours.

    He further urged them to engage in productive ventures that will enable them become self-reliant and useful to themselves and the society.

    According to him, there was need for the youths to emulate the footsteps of achievers and leaders in the society so that they can take up the mantle of leadership.

    Speaking to Reporters on the progress made so far in NCC, he said, “on account of the progress we are making, we have facilitated broad-band penetration up to 22 per cent which has enabled 45 million Nigerians access to high speed internet facility. We have a target of 30 percent to reach by the end of this year.

    “On protecting consumers’ interest, we had dedicated year 2017 as consumer protection year; and through that campaign, we sensitized consumers across the country about their right—how they can protect themselves from unsolicited text messages by texting a code to 2442.

    “The consumer sensitization and empowerment also gave customers toll-free lines through which they can lay complain about quality of service they received.

    “So, in a nut-shell, these are the progress we have recorded in two items out of the six we have targeted to achieve.”

    Also speaking, Jigawa state Governor, Alhaji Muhammad Badaru Abubakar who also received an award described the event as timely and a milestone in the history Kano.

    Badaru who was represented by the Managing-Director, Abyem-Diva International Limited Chief Leke Abejide (who was also a recpient) said, “the award is based on merit based on the caliber of the organizers and people I am seeing here today.

    “It will spur the recipients to do more. I am so glad personally and to me it is a privilege.”

    Abejide added that, “the award to Jigawa state governor is well-deserved because Jigawa state government under His Excellency, Alhaji Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, does not owe workers salary; pensioners receive their monthly pension allowances as at when due.

    “The Governor is doing well today in the area of economic development. If you go to Jigawa today, you will see several foreign investment attracted by the state government.

    “Very soon, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari will be commissioning several projects in Jigawa which include industries. I believe this award will make him do more in the state in the area of socio-economic development.”

    Recipients of the award include the late Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero; Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammad Sanusi 11; late General Murtala Mohammed; first civilian governor of Kano state, late Abubakar Rimi; first military governor of Kano state, CP Audu Bako.

    Others are Kano state governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje; former governor of Kano state, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau (Sarduanan Kano); the late Dan Massanin Kano, Yusuf Maitama Sule;   Dan Adalan Kano, Isiaku Umar Tofa; Kano state Commissioner for Agriculture, Alhaji Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, among others.

  • FG looters list: Don’t vote looters again – Gov Abubakar warns Nigerians

    Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar of Jigawa state has warned Nigerians and common men not allows unpatriotic and looters to be votes in to power in the next coming elections.

    The governor made the warning on Monday in his speech while commissioning the New World Micro Finance Bank and introductions of ATM machine at Birnin Kudu town Birninkudu local government of the state.

    ‎Alhaji Badaru Abubakar advised Nigerian to keep following the list of looters by the federal government whom embazled and coverted public funds in to their personal once “please follows federal government see the name of their names and not give them any chanses to leads you. Don’t entrust them, they will never change”.

    He described the Past administration of PDP both at all levels as looters said, they came to power with empty pocket but within sixteen years of their leadership they end up of making themselves rich and their families.

    According to him, it is very unfortunate that, the opposition whom bankrupt Nigeria’s treasury and now exposed to the public by the EFCC and other Investigative agencies are still‎ jostle to take over public office again.

    He said, the opposition whom paralyzed Nigeria and its future are now busy ‎criticizing the present administration’s effort of rebuilding a better Nigeria that everyone will proud of in the future.

    ‎”It is a shame of PDP leaders particularly from Jigawa state that, how can somebody whom were elected to lead various political offices with nothing but end up of making themselves and their families billionaires and start bragging. Nigerians will never allow you to lead them again” he said.

    Also speaking at the Commissioning, the Chairman board of Directors of the Bank and one of the APC Chieftain Alhaji Farouk Adamu Aliyu said, the aims of re branding the bank is to ‎boost the local economy in the state and ensure sustainable development of the state.

    He said, the bank also reached a bold step of collaborating with two deposit Money banks, Sterlin and Keystone bank‎s to jointly operate Automated Teller Merchines (ATMs) in the bank.

    Aliyu also in his effort to support‎ both state and federal government effort on Agriculture, said very soon he will invite. Governor Badaru to laid a foundation of multi-billion fertilizer plant in Jigawa state.

    Jigawa varsity gets new pro-chancellor

    Gov. Muhammad Badaru Abubakar of Jigawa has appointed Prof. Sa’idu Babura the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council of the Sule Lamido University, KafinHausa.

    This is contained in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Adamu Abdulkadir, on Monday in Dutse.

    According to the statement, Babura is a Professor of Oral Literature with special interest on Northern Nigerian Literature.

    He is a former lecturer in the Department of English and French Languages, Bayero University, Kano.

    The statement also said that the governor appointed Dr Muhammad Isah the Chairman, Governing Council of the Binyaminu Usman Polytechnic, Hadejia.

    It noted that  Isah was the Deputy Dean, Faculty of Law, Bayero University, Kano, until the appointment.

    It added that the governor appointed Alhaji Muhammad Usman the Chairman, Governing Council of the College of Legal and Islamic Studies, Ringim.

    According to the statement, the governor also appointed Prof. Kabiru Isyaku a Member of the Governing  Council of the Sule Lamido University, KafinHausa.

    Isyaku, a Professor of Education, was formerly of the Department of Education, Bayero University, Kano.

    The statement said that all the appointments took immediate effect.
