  • Two arrested for kidnapping, murder in Zamfara

    The Zamfara State Police Command said on Wednesday it has arrested two suspects over alleged kidnapping and murder of one Sani Saidu in Guru, Maru local government area of the state.

    A statement issued in Gusau by the command’s spokesman, Muhammad Shehu, said the suspects were arrested on Tuesday at Dansadau area of Maru local government area.

    Shehu said the suspects were arrested during an operation by policemen that combed the forest and their hideouts in the area.

    He said the suspects were from Malele village in Maru local government area.

    He said the suspects had on November 26 kidnapped the victim and killed him later.

    The police spokesman said a locally made gun and motorcycle were recovered from the suspects.

    Two men remanded over theft of phone

    A Kano Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday remanded in prison two labourers charged with robbing some people of phone and cash worth N83, 000.

     The accused — Auwalu Nasiru, 22, and Abubakar Afara, 19 — both of Unguwa Uku Quarters, Kano, are facing a two-count charge of criminal conspiracy and armed robbery.

    Police Prosecutor Muhammad Shehu told the court that the accused committed the offences on June 30 at 11.35 a.m. at Gwale Quarters, Kano.

    Shehu said the accused, armed with long knives and a pair of scissors, robbed two men — Salisu Mohammed and Usman Ya’u — of a Samsung Galaxy phone valued at N55, 000 and N28, 000 cash.

    The offences contravened Sections 97 and 298 of the Penal Code.

    The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.

    In his ruling, Senior Magistrate Fauziyya Sheshe said the accused should be kept behind bars until the next date of adjournment.

    The case was adjourned until Sept. 22.
