The former governor and Hunkuyi, a senator in the 8th Assembly, Senators Shehu Sani, Dajuma   La’ah and many other top opposition leaders in the state were received into the APC fold by Govenror Sani at a rally in Kaduna on Saturday.

While the defection rally was ongoing, former Sokoto State Governor   Aminu Tambuwal.accused them   of doing so because of  “stomach infrastructure.”

Yero, who became a governor, following the death of Patrick Yakowa in a helicopter crash in 2012, said he was not surprised that opposition party leaders in the state now call   ‘’us paper weights’’ after their failed pleas to have them stay back.

He predicted that the APC would in the coming months witness an influx of opposition party members that would make its victory in the 2027  polls sure.

His words:  “Governor Uba Sani has within less than two years brought positive changes to governance. He has initiated a lot of rural transformation projects.

“These are the things we have seen in Governor Uba Sani. He is a leader that listens and carries everyone along irrespective of ethno-religious backgrounds and even political affiliation.

“Our coming into the APC will in the coming months signal influx of other opposition members. And I am sure the APC will be just to all of us and treat us like every other APC member. This will show the people who are still contemplating that.this is the right place to be.

“The APC should know that we are not here to fight or cause crisis in the ruling party. Zll we want is justice and fairness. Chieftains of our former parties have not left us. Up till a few days back, they were still reaching out to see whether they could hold us back in the PDP and other parties, but we told them we have made up our minds to join the APC.

“When our former parties failed to hold us back, they are now calling us paperweights, but we are going to show them by 2027 who are the real paperweights.

“We are not going to fight with anyone, but we will contribute our quota and we are confident that APC will emerge victorious in the presidential, governorship, National Assembly and Houses of  Assembly elections.”

Hunkuyi  said he was humbled by Governor   Sani for    reaching  out to ‘’all the people chased out of the APC by the former Governor Nasir  El-Rufa’i.’’

“I am one of the founding members of the APC in Kaduna, but while the journey was going on smoothly, the driver of the vehicle matched the brake and asked some of us to drop from the vehicle. We dropped without arguing. But we thank  God that Governor Uba Sani went round all the places where people were dropped and picked us back into the vehicle,” he said.

Hunkuyi  described the governor as a  just leader  who  ‘’succeeded in bringing us back to the APC.”

The attack on the three communities however forced the state governor, Mukthar Ramalan Yero to cancel his visit to the United States of America for a conference on peace and security and hurriedly return home.
The Director General to the governor on Media and Publicity, Ahmed Maiyaki said that Governor Yero was already in the United Kingdom enroute the United States of America to attend a symposium on peace and security in Northern Nigeria, organized by the United States Institute of Peace (USIP).
According to him, Governor Yero was billed to address the conference on the security challenges in the North and Kaduna State in particular, but had to return to Nigeria on receiving the sad news that some hoodlums have attacked villages in Kaduna and killed many innocent citizens.
Maiyaki said that the Governor departed Nigeria on Friday morning only to return on Saturday without attending the USIP conference after attackers invaded Kaura villages on Friday night and killed dozens of people.
He said further that the symposium organized by the USIP is to have in attendance governors from Northern states that are facing security and economic challenges as well as lawmakers and investors from the US and Europe and aimed at seeking collaborative solutions to improving security as well as economic development of the North.

Yero: I prefer to go slow, steady

Kaduna State Governor Mukhtar Yero yesterday reacted to criticisms on the slow pace of the administration, saying it was to ensure meaningful development.

“I prefer to go slow and steady, instead of rushing and crashing,” Yero said in Kaduna at a Town Hall meeting.

The governor said as a leader, he needed time to “study the situation of things, know the needs of the people and assess available resources before embarking on any project.”

“It is always important to go slow and steady and make progress, instead of rushing and at the end of the day crashing.

“So I prefer to be slow, steady, observe and get meaningful contributions,” he said.

He assured the people that the administration would not disappoint, as it was committed to ensuring meaningful development in all parts of the state.

“I will like to assure you that we are studying the situation, and Kaduna State is not a state that you will rush, there are so many challenges that we need to look at critically, understand and move forward.

“The most important is how to add value and that is the changes we are looking at to add value.”

  • ‘Stop Yero from swearing in nominee’

A Kaduna High Court has been urged to stop Governor Mukhtar Yero from swearing in Mrs. Comfort Amwe as a commissioner because ‘she is not fit to hold public office.’

Mrs. Amwe was cleared by the House of Assembly last week.

A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stakeholder from her local government petitioned the governor and the House of Assembly, alleging that she was ‘indicted’ by a government White Paper for alleged fraud.

Moses Ada Anche wants the court to restrain the governor from swearing her in, saying she was not fit for such appointment.

In a statement of claim filed by his counsel, John Mudiaga Omughele, Anche alleged that Mrs. Amwe was ‘indicted’ with others for allegedly defrauding the state of N3.3 million when she was working at the Ministry of Finance, from 1990 to 1993.

He alleged that “in 1993, the government instituted an investigative panel into loss of government revenue, which made findings on several areas but specifically on the Kafanchan Sub-Treasury, where Amwe worked.”

The claimant added that the White Paper released in November 1994 recommended that she be sanctioned.

Anche said she did not leave the Civil Service voluntarily but was relieved of her appointment.

The plaintiff noted that Mrs. Amwe, who was joined as the third respondent, is unfit for appointment.

He argued that the first defendant (the governor) could not nominate and appoint a person, who was indicted by the same government as it would contravene Section 15 of the 1999 Constitution.

The claimant prayed the court for a perpetual injunction restraining the governor from appointing the third defendant as commissioner, pending the determination of the matter.

    Hearing comes up on Thursday.

  • ‘No mass wedding in Kaduna’

    ‘No mass wedding in Kaduna’

Kaduna State government yesterday said it was not its responsibility to sponsor or organise mass wedding for divorcees and widows.

Governor Mukhtar Yero said it was the responsibility of the family.

The governor said he had no plans to emulate the mass wedding scheme being carried out in northern states.

Yero attributed the increase in divorce cases in the North to bad orientation.

“It is not our responsibility; it is that of the family. This is why we are preaching the need for moral restoration.”

The governor spoke after being honoured as the “Icon of Peace” at the Kannywood Award Night in Kano.

He urged actresses in Kannywood to get married, stressing that many young girls see them as role models.

“Please for the actresses yet to marry, they should do so because they are role models.”

  • Call for Nigeria’s breakup selfish – Kaduna governor

Call for Nigeria’s breakup selfish – Kaduna governor

Governor Mukhtar Yero of Kaduna State on Thursday described calls for the breakup of the country as selfish.

Yero said at a one-day summit in Kaduna, organized by the Coalition of Civil Society Group, that Nigerians stands to benefit the more if the nation’s diversity were positively harnessed.

The summit with the theme: ‘’ Our Diversity our Strength’’, had in attendance former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Alfa Belgore and former Speaker, Ghali Na’abba.

The governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Amb. Nuhu Bajoga, urged Nigerians not to allow their differences to overturn their sense of reasoning.

“If our diversity were utilised positively it would have more effect on the challenges our country is facing’’, the News Agency of Nigeria quoted the governor as saying at the forum.

He added that those agitating the division of the country were doing so out of ignorance and selfishness, noting that ‘’such people have failed to notice that countries that developed are those with diverse people.”

The governor emphasised that Nigeria belongs to all and would only be built on the collective contribution of all, and “on the experience of past leaders and the strength of the youth.”

The Guest Speaker, Governor Gabriel Suswan of Benue said the main problem with Nigerians was their lack of respect for each others’ religious and cultural beliefs.

“We must learn to respect and accept our differences’’, he said, adding that there must be better understanding of the people’s cultural and religious sensitivities, “in order to ensure rapid integration of socio-economic ties between our various communities.’’

Suswan also spoke on the Boko Haram insurgency, saying that it was a national threat.
