  • State hands multi-million agric facility to firm

    The Bayelsa State government yesterday handed over the multi-million aquaculture village built by Governor Seriake Dickson to a private firm, Aquaseas Company Limited.

    The Aquaculture Village, located at Yenegue, Yenagoa Local Government, sits on a 127-hectare land with over 500 fish ponds.

    The concession involving the government, Aquaseas and Unity Bank was signed at the Ministry of Agriculture, Yenagoa, in presence of other government officials and beneficiaries.

    Prior to the signing, Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr. Doodei Week, described the handover as another remarkable achievement of the governor and his team.

    He said his team formulated three thematic pillars of capacity building, establishment of critical agric infrastructure, and created linkages with partners to actualise Dickson’s dreams in the sector.

    The commissioner said the construction and handing over captured the three thematic pillars.

    He noted that the government was poised to replicate such agricultural facilities in other councils, adding that some councils would have two aquaculture villages.

    He said: “It is not just the aquaculture village in Yenegue but aquaculture villages in every local government areas. Some local governments will have two because already we are doubling the investment in some local governments.

    “The state responsibility in this regard is to build the farms, create the infrastructures and allow the private sector to drive them. We thank the governor, whose dreams, guidance systems and specific objectives that we are fulfilling”.

    Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Aquaseas Mr. Steve Okeleji applauded Dickson’s vision and feat in the sector.

    He said following further investments by the state, the villages would generate 16,000 direct jobs and countless indirect jobs.

    He said: “I want to applaud the audacity of the governor. What makes one a consummate leader is the ability to see opportunities, challenges and proffer solution. I am aware that the aquaculture village will be replicated in other local government areas with capacity of 500 ponds.

    CBN officials suspended over multi-million dollar fraud

    The Federal Government has placed some very senior officials of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on suspension for fraud running into hundreds of millions of dollars.

    The Nation gathered that President Muhammadu Buhari has authorised the suspension of the CBN workers,  including a deputy governor and three directors.

    A Presidency source said  the Deputy Governor was appointed by former President Goodluck Jonathan and “he was indicted in an ongoing fraud investigation amounting to about $400 million.”

    The Presidency official however refused to state the nature of the fraud for fear that further disclosure might reveal the identity of the affected Deputy Governor and directors of the CBN.

    However, a statement from the CBN last night confirmed that “a highly sophisticated plot to defraud the CBN by some criminally minded elements has been uncovered and aborted by the bank.”

    The statement signed by the bank’s Acting Director, Corporate Communications, Isaac Okorafor, said the apex bank suspended the unnamed workers to enable the bank investigate their involvement in the fraud.

    “A highly sophisticated plot to defraud the CBN by some criminally minded elements has been uncovered and aborted by the bank. Although preliminary investigations so far have not revealed any accomplices within the CBN, management has decided to place all key personnel involved in the transaction on suspension. This is to ensure a full and unfettered investigation,” the statement explained. The statement added that the matter had been reported to relevant authorities while the apex bank assured the general public that the security of the bank remained intact.

  • Nestoil to deliver multi-million dollar gas pipeline in 2016

    Nestoil, a local oil firm, is set to deliver multi-million dollar gas pipeline in 2016, the Group Managing Director, Obijackson Group, Dr Ernest Azudialu Obiejesi has said.

    The group is the parent company of Nestoil that is building the pipeline.

    Obiejesi said the pipeline known as OB3 pipeline is 48 inches by 67 kilometres, will help in transporting gas to power generation plants to improve electricity generation and supply.

    He said the pipeline would help in delivering gas to power plants located in the Niger Delta region and other parts of the country.

    Obiejesi said the pipeline is one of the major projects being executed by the Group, adding that the project was part of efforts to contribute to the growth of the nation’s energy sector.

    He said: “The pipeline known as OB3  is 48 inches by 67 kilometres. The pipeline is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2016. When the pipeline is completed, it would help in transporting gas from all the fields towards Oben across the Delta and to Escravos –Lagos pipeline where gas is supposed to be evacuated for the West and the Northern regions.

    He, however, said the completion of the project may be delayed till first quarter of 2017 in the event there are problems from the communities where the pipeline would pass.
