Muonagor’s death unfortunate, says Actors Guild Enugu chapter

The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) Enugu Chapter, on Monday described  the death of veteran Nollywood actor, Amechi Muonagor, 62,  as unfortunate.

The Chairman, AGN, Enugu Chapter,  Ene Brown, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu.

He said the deceased battled with different ailments for a very long time.

“His sickness became worse in 2024 with stroke, diabetics and kidney failure.

“Mounago battled with diabetes for over 10 years and has been managing it. It was only these past six months that he started appealing to the public for assistance.

“Just like John Okafor, it is not their fault that they became diabetic.

“We did our best in supporting him with the little we can as an organisation and individuals, but death is inevitable.

“‘Uncle’ as he is fondly called was energetic, friendly and acrobatic; we enjoyed him while he was alive. We really missed him so much,” he said.

On why the industry was recording deaths, Brown said that death is inevitable for everyone adding that the only difference was that their members were popular as actors and actresses.

“We are not God and cannot change nature. People got to know about their death and are reacting,” he said.

Brown said that the organisation was working to ensure that their members attended to their health by going for regular check-up.

“The organisation has initiated a health insurance scheme for members to curtail their health expenses.

“The industry is doing its best to ensure that actors/actresses sign to Health Maintenance Organisation (HMO) that allows them access to 600 hospitals in Nigeria,” he said.

Muonagor seeks financial assistance as health worsens

Nollywood’s ailing actor Amaechi Muonagor, said to be battling kidney disease, diabetes, and stroke, is seeking financial assistance. According to reports, his health is fast deteriorating over his inability to raise funds to settle his hospital bills.

An actor, Kingsley Orji, recently took to social media to announce that paucity of funds has seen Amaechi leave the Intensive Care Unit of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital in Nnewi, Anambra State, where he was receiving treatment.

Orji also noted that Muonagor’s ailments had not only deteriorated but had affected his speech. He urged fans and well-wishers to support the ailing actor in undergoing a kidney transplant surgery.

Orji said: “It has not been easy. He has been in this condition for months now. He wants to go for a kidney transplant. What we want is for you to help us for him to travel to India.

“He just came back from the ICU at Nnewi Teaching Hospital a couple of days ago. He was responding to treatment but not very well.

“We decided to bring him home because there was no money but it is not advisable. He barely talks well. Please, he needs your help.”

Muonagor’s ailment became public knowledge last November, when his cousin and entertainer, Tony Muonagor, revealed that the actor was battling organ failure.
