    Court remands three suspected cultists over alleged murder

    An Ota Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ogun on Wednesday remanded three suspected cultists, Azeez Rasaq, 24; Soretire Olumide, 26, and Adebayo Sadiq, 28, in prison custody over alleged murder.

    The accused persons, whose addresses were unknown, are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and murder.

    Earlier, the Prosecutor, Cpl. Mustapha Abdulkareem, told the court that the accused and others still at large, committed the offences on April 26, at about 5.00p.m. at Ogba-Ayo under bridge, Ijoko, Ota.

    Abdulkareem said that the accused persons and their accomplices being members of a secret society called “Aiye Confraternity” did conspire among themselves to kill one Lanre Adebowale.

    He said they killed him by violently launching an attack with a gun and a cutlass that led to the death of the victim.

    Abdulkareem said that the offences contravened Sections 319 (1) and 324 of the Criminal Code, Vol. 1, Laws of Ogun, 2006.

    The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. A. I. Adelaja, ordered that the accused persons should be remanded in prison custody, pending legal advice from the State’s Director of Public Prosecutions on the matter.

    Adelaja adjourned the case until July 21, for hearing.

    Man docked for theft of air conditioner

    A 24-year-old man, Mutia Oriyomi, who allegedly stole a split air conditioner valued at N35,000, was on Tuesday brought before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun.

    Oriyomi, whose address is unknown, is facing a two-count charge of stealing and conspiracy to which he pleaded not guilty.

    According to the Police Prosecutor, Cpl. Mustapha Abdulkareem, the accused with others still at large, committed the offences on June 7 at  3.30 p.m. at Phase One in Iju area of Ota.

    Abdulkareem said the accused conspired to steal a split air conditioner worth N35,000, property of Madam Mariam Abubakar.

    “The accused was caught by the vigilance group in the area and was handled over to the police.”

    The offences contravened Sections 390(9) and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.

    In her ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Mrs A. I. Adelaja, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

    Adelaja said the sureties must reside within the court ‘s jurisdiction and show evidence of tax payment to Ogun Government.

    The case was adjourned until July 21 for hearing.

    Court remands meat seller for assaulting TRACE official

    A 26-year-old meat seller, Kadejo Taiwo, who allegedly assaulted a Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) officer with a cutlass, was on Friday remanded in prison custody.

    Taiwo, of no fixed address, is facing a charge of assault before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun.

    The prosecutor, Cpl. Mustapha Abdulkareem, told the court that the accused committed the offence on April 27 at about 5.30p.m. at Atan, Agbara Junction, Ota.

    Abdulkareem said that the accused assaulted the TRACE official in the course of discharging his duty by inflicting injury on his head with a cutlass.

    He said that the offence contravened Section 356(6) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.

    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

    The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. A. I. Adelaja, ordered that the accused should be remanded in Abeokuta prison.

    The case was adjourned until July 5 for hearing.

    Court remands two brothers over armed robbery

    An Ota Chief Magistrate’s Court in Ogun on Thursday ordered the remand of two brothers, Musha Mukaila and Azeez Mukaila, in prison custody over alleged armed robbery.

    The defendants of unknown addresses are facing a three-count charge of armed robbery, unlawful possession of firearms and conspiracy.

    The prosecutor, Cpl. Mustapha Abdulkareem, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Feb. 14 at 1:00 a.m. on Itele Road, Ota.

    Abdulkareem said that the accused who were armed with a cutlass and a locally made pistol, robbed one Adeshina Adenipekun of his Pathfinder jeep and other valuables worth N4 million.

    He said the offences contravened Sections 1(2), a 6(b) and 28 of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, Cap. 398, Vol RII, Law of Federation, 2004.

    The Chief Magistrate, Mrs A. I. Adelaja, ordered that the accused should be remanded in prison custody pending advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

    Adelaja adjourned the case until July 7 for hearing.
