  • Two motorcycle ‘snatchers’ nabbed in Ogun

    The police in Ogun State have arrested two suspected motorcycle snatchers.

    Oguntuga Saheed and Omotayo Adenuga were arrested on December 20 along Okunowa/Odogbolu, Road, Ijebu-Ode, by detectives attached to Obalende Division.

    It was learnt that the suspects were arrested while trying to auction two motorcycles they allegedly snatched from their owners.

    Surprised at the price the suspects put on the motorcycles, people around were said to have alerted the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Hakeem Fijabi, a Chef Superintendent (CSP), who led his men to the location and arrested them.

    Spokesman Abimbola Oyeyemi, a Deputy Superintendent (DSP), said the suspects confessed upon interrogation that they snatched the motorcycles from their owners, adding that they were responsible for several motorcycle thefts in the neighbourhood.

    He said Police Commissioner Ahmed Illiyasu has ordered the transfer of the suspects to the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) for investigation.

  • 28-yr-old suspected notorious burglar nabbed in Lagos

    The police have arrested a suspected notorious burglar in Ebute Metta area of Lagos State.

    The 28-year- old suspect, Rilwan Olanrewaju, was said to have forcibly entered the apartment of one Olasunkanmi Igboye, on November 20, 2018.

    It was said that he entered through the roof of the building, when the owner of the property caught him.

    The suspect, who hails from Igbaja, Kwara State, was said to have committed numerous thefts and burglaries in recent times.

    He was subsequently arraigned before an Ebute Metta Chief Magistrate’s Court.

    He pleaded guilty to a two- count charge of felony and falsely entry.

    It was learnt that the suspect has a case bordering on stealing of electrical meter, pending at the aforementioned court,

    Police prosecutor, Inspector, Kehinde Olatunji, told the court that the offender broke into the apartment of one Olasunkanmi Igboye on November 20, around 1:30pm at 3, Sharkliford Street, Apapa Road, Ebute-Metta, Lagos.

    “He was found right inside one of the rooms ransacking valuables .When he was approached, he couldn’t explain himself. They searched the building and discovered he had entered the apartment through the roof.’’

    Olatunji added that the offence was punishable under Section 307(a) and 406(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

    The presiding magistrate, Mrs O. Kushanu adjourned the case to November 26, for fact and sentencing.

  • Alleged internet fraudster nabbed

    A  24-year-old man , Isibor Ehichioya Hillary, has been arrested  by operatives of the Inspector General of Police Special Intelligence Response Team, IRT, for allegedly defrauding a Finnish policewoman, Raiji, of the sum of N73.63million.

    Hillary perpetrated the alleged fraud  by pretending to be an American soldier, Marco Paulo, serving in Iraq.

    According to IRT sources,  Hillary, a native of Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State and a graduate of civil engineering from the Ambrose Ali University, Epkoma, ran into trouble, when Raiji, who he met on an internet dating site, wrote a petition against him to the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, detailing how  she attempted suicide after realized that Hilary defrauded her of the said sum, which she took as a loan from a bank in Finland.

    Sources further disclosed that, Hilary who was formerly based in Turkey, made the Finnish woman to pay the sum of N178,000 into an account belonging to one of his cronies, Beggie, under the pretence that the money would be used for a business that would yield huge profits for  both of them.

    The source further revealed that after the woman waited endlessly for the said profits that  never came  , she was  forced to investigate who Marco Paulo was and she  discovered, that he was a Nigerian internet fraudster, disguising as an American soldier serving in Iraq.

    It was further revealed that the IGP, based on the petition, directed his  operatives at the IRT to trail and arrest all the  suspects involved in the scam.

    Hilary, who resides at the Dawanki Gwarimpa area of Abuja was picked up and he confessed that he had N8million in his account which was part of the proceeds.

    A Toyota Matrix car, a laptop and one Iphone handset were recovered from him.

    Hilary told the police during his confessions that he bought a landed property for N3 million and that he also rented an apartment for N880,000.

    He was quoted telling his interrogators that he spent “  two years in  Turkey and I was taught internet fraud, by one  Mr. Kalu who owns a cyber café.  What I specialized in was to provide account for fraudsters across the globe. The first person I provided an account for, is known as Peter and I also ventured into dating.”

    “The property  I have acquired from the business are Toyota Corolla 2014 model which I bought for N3.8million, a Toyota Matrix, which I bought for N1.6million. I also bought a land for N2million and I rented an apartment for N880,0000.

    “ The total money I have in my bank account is N8million. I am very sorry about the crime I have committed, therefore I am pleading for mercy from the police.

    “My facebook account has been blocked over my fraudulent activities.  I have defrauded so many white women using my facebook account, including one Rajii from Finland. I took a total of 178,000 euro from her. My own share was 82,000 euro”.

  • Suspected rapist nabbed in Minna

    Niger State Police Command said yesterday it had arrested the 29-year-old man, who allegedly defiled a minor.

    Spokesman Mohammadu Abubakar told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Minna

    that the suspect, who lives in Barkin-Sale, Minna, allegedly lured the 11-year-old girl into his room.

    He alleged that preliminary investigation had established that the suspect had carnal knowledge of the girl.

    Abubakar said the suspect would be arraigned after conclusion of investigation.

    He appealed to parents to monitor those associating with their children, to prevent sexual abuse.

  • Suspected gang leader, 20 others nabbed

    Zamfara State Police Command has arrested the leader of a gang called “Sara-Suka”, as well as 20 members.

    Spokesman, Muhammad Shehu said in a statement in Gusau yesterday that the gang had been terrorising Gusau and its environs.

    The statement said the suspects were arrested by the operation team of the command on Wednesday in Yan-Mangwarora, Gusau during a raid of criminals’ hideouts.

    It said dried leaves of Indian hemp, three bottles of shooter intoxicant and tramadol tablets were recovered from the suspects.

    The statement, which said the suspects were assisting the police with information, added that the command was on the trail of other members of the gang.

    It said the command would not relent in its efforts to ensure protection of life and property, urging the public to assist it with information about the gang.

     

  • Pupil nabbed with gun

    A 15-year-old Senior Secondary School 2 pupil was yesterday arrested with a locally-made pistol in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

    The Nation learnt that the suspect was nabbed during school hours at Akenfa-Epie in Yenagoa.

    It was gathered that the teenager is a pupil of Community Secondary school, Akenfa-Epie.

    He was apprehended while in uniform by indigenes of Akenfa community, led by vigilance group members.

    A source said vigilance group members, who suspected the pupil, accosted and searched him.

    But another source said the boy was nabbed in the classroom after a tip-off by his school mates.

    The suspect has been handed over to the Akenfa Divisional Police Station for investigation.

    Police spokesman Butswat Asinim confirmed the arrest.

    He said investigations showed that robbers last weekend attacked a corps members’ lodge in Angalabiri, Sagbama.

    The hoodlums cut off the left hand of a corps member, Luntis Julius.

    Asinim said the indigenes assisted the police to arrest two suspects linked to the incident.

    He identified them as Mosan Moses Youdougha, 22 and Godswill Vincent, 21.

    Two nabbed for alleged murder of driver

    Officers of the Ogwashi-Uku Police Division have arrested two suspects for complicity in the murder of a Delta Line Bus driver.

    The Nation learnt that the victim was killed between Adonte and Ubulu-Unor communities in Aniocha South Local Government of Delta State and his vehicle stolen.

    It was gathered that the driver was allegedly lured to a lonely community road where he was killed.

    The police said the prime suspect was Augustine Uwafili, 26.

    Sources said the suspect, now on the run, chartered the vehicle from Delta Line Park in Ozoro, Isoko North Council.

    They said the vehicle was found at a spray painter’s workshop in Ogwashi-Uku, adding that the painter was arrested.

    The Nation learnt that the suspect led the police to an accomplice, Otonokpo, the deceased’s colleague.

    The police said they exhumed the remains of the driver from a shallow grave in a bush.

    Police spokesman Andrew Aniamaka, who confirmed the incident, said the suspects had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for investigations, adding that they would be arraigned after.

     

  • Suspects nabbed for bank robbery

    Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested three suspects from Rivers State, who specialise in robbing bank customers.

    Parading the suspects yesterday in Uyo, Police Commissioner Zubairu Muazu said the suspects, Hyacent Loveday Bright, Menford Austine John and John Usam Chibueze were nabbed in Eket, following a tip-off.

    He said the leader, Hyacent, is a Rivers State indigene living in Eket.

    Zubairu said the suspects were arrested on November 3 when they trailed Mr. Nkerewem Bassey Akpan and robbed him of N1 million he withdrew from a bank in Eket.

    Items recovered from the suspects include Toyota Avalon, N521,300, a techno phone and ATM cards.

    Hyacent, 31, a father of three from Onelga Local Government of Rivers State, confessed to the crime.

    He said they posed as customers to know who would withdraw big money.

    Hyacent said he used to be a pipeline vandal.

    The police boss said 104 were nabbed for cultism, kidnapping, robbery, child trafficking and others.

    He said most of them had been arraigned and others were being investigated.

    Recovered from the suspects are two AK 47 rifles, assault rifle, two pump action guns, one berretta pistol, eight locally-made pistols and single barrel gun.

    Others are five cars and N2,8700,000.

    Zubairu said the command’s decision to temporarily relocate the operational base of the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Anti-Cultism units to Ukanafun, Etim Ekpo and Onna local governments was positive, as 15 kidnap suspects and 20 cultists were arrested and arraigned.

  • Ex-secretary nabbed for ‘N2.5m fraud’

    The Borno State Command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested Bulama Bukar, a former Local Education Authority secretary, for alleged N2.5 million fraud, Commandant Mr. Ibrahim Abdullahi has said.

    Abdullahi, who presented the suspect to the public yesterday in Maiduguri, said the suspect allegedly collected money from 65 youths on the pretext of offering them teaching jobs.

    He said the suspect was arrested with three accomplices on August 2.

    Abdullahi listed the others as Bukar Muhammad, Sale Abdulhameed and Angili Sunday, ex-workers of State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), in Munguno Local Government.

    “The suspects confessed to have collected between N60,000 and N80,000 from each of the job seekers.

    “The case was first reported to the command by one of the suspects, Bukar Muhammad, after he escaped lynching by the victims.

    “The youth, holders of Nigerian Certificate in Education (NCE), confronted one of the suspects after they failed to scale through the workers’ verification conducted by the state government,” he said.

    Abdullahi said the youth were offered fake employment into the civil service, adding that investigation was on.

  • Man nabbed for ‘robbing’ pastor

    Rapid Response Squad (RRS) operatives on Saturday arrested a 25-year-old man, Paul Bassey, for allegedly robbing a pastor.

    Bassey was arrested around 6am near Victoria Garden City (VGC) on the Lekki-Epe expressway.

    He was said to have held Pastor David Oriaki, who gave him a ride, hostage in the cleric’s car.

    It was gathered that on entering the car, Bassey allegedly pointed a gun at the pastor, telling him the routes to take.

    But Oriaki told The Nation that on sighting the RRS after the toll gate, he marched the brake, diverted his vehicle and shouted for help.

    “It was around 6am on Saturday. The young man entered my car around VGC round about and the next thing; he pointed a gun at me. He asked me to drive towards a particular direction.

    “But by that time I have put my car on the E-tag at the toll gate. I was hoping I will see those policemen that are usually not far from there. The barricade was not opening and so, he told me to reverse my car. As I was about to reverse, the barricade opened and he told me to drive straight.

    “I was just praying and trying to buy time. I was driving fast too and he told me to make a U-turn but I told him I cannot just be turning like that especially on the speed I was driving.

    “At this point, he has searched me, collected my phone and money and was still pointing his gun at me.

    “Eventually along the road, I sighted some RRS operatives from a distance. I just slammed my brakes and diverted towards them. I hurriedly ran out of the car and screamed for help.

    “He did not see them initially. When I ran out, he wanted to pursue me. Then, he saw them and escaped but they immediately chased him.

    “Two RRS vehicles pursued him. One of them was marked 187, I do not know the number on the other one. He crossed the road and they chased him and caught him.

    “I am really impressed by the actions of the officers. They were very responsive and saved me from the criminal,” he said.

    The Nation gathered that the suspect is being held at the Special Anti-Robbery Sqaud (SARS) Headquarters in Ikeja.
