    NAF strikes kill several terrorists in Niger as CDS visits Benue for peace talks

    Airstrikes by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) fighter jets have neutralised several terrorists.

    The strikes came two days after terrorist killed 17 soldiers during a gun battle 

    in Bangi community, Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State.

    NAF’s spokesman, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, in a statement said the air component of Operation FANSAN YAMMA Sector 1, a military operation against bandits/terrorists in Northwest, targeted the terrorists behind the attacks. 

    Ejodame said NAF fighter jets carried out a series of precision air strikes from June 24 to 26 in support of ground troops.

    He said, “On 26 June, following credible intelligence, with inter-service and inter-agency cooperation, the NAF identified terrorist activities involving attacks and cattle rustling in Kakihun and Kumbashi communities.

     “Swiftly deploying air assets, the Air Component executed multiple waves of precision strikes that neutralized scores of terrorists, destroyed their logistics, and disrupted regrouping efforts.”

    Also, in his efforts to restore peace following the recent attacks and killings of civilians by bandits in Benue, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, has again visited the state to ensure peace.

     No fewer than 147 persons were killed in Yelwata, an agrarian community in the Guma Local Government Area of the state, two weeks ago. 

    Following the development, President Tinubu convened a high-level stakeholder meeting at the Benue State Government House in Makurdi, where he directed the heads of security agencies and the Chief of Defence Staff to halt the killings and bring the perpetrators to justice.

    A statement by the Director Defence of Information, Brig-Gen. Tukur Gusau, stated that the CDS went back to the state yesterday, June 26, to engage more with prominent traditional rulers and elders in the state. 

    He said, “During the engagement, the CDS gave a firm assurance of the Armed Forces’ commitment to restoring peace and stability in the state.

     “The meeting, which involved extensive interaction, brought together the Tor Tiv, Ochidoma, first- and second-class chiefs, and elders from various zones of the state.”

     According to the Defence spokesman, the forum provided an avenue for open dialogue on the root causes of the recurring attacks by suspected herdsmen, as well as the identification of actionable solutions.

     He said, “the CDS explained that the meeting was in line with the directive of the President and Commander-in-Chief , President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to engage with the Benue Council of Elders in order to uncover both the immediate and underlying causes of the crisis and propose effective measures to address them. 

    “The CDS emphasised the gravity of the security challenges in the state and the need for collaborative solutions, noting that a recent high-level security meeting in Abuja, involving the Service Chiefs, Inspector General of Police, and the National Security Adviser, was part of efforts to address the situation comprehensively.”

    NAF strikes kill 70 terrorists in Borno, destroy 83 illegal refineries in Niger Delta

    Air strikes by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) jets have killed 70 terrorists at Kwallaram and Arianna Ciki islands in Borno State.

    The strikes were conducted on November 6 following credible intelligence about the terrorists presence in the areas, the Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj-Gen Edward Buba, said in a statement yesterday.

    General Buba said that in the past week, troops on operations across the country neutralized 169 terrorists and arrested 641 criminals.

    He said troops also recovered 192 high caliber weapons, comprising 106 AK47 rifles, 38 fabricated rifles, 26 dane guns, one FN rifle, three fabricated revolver pistol, 11 locally made pistols, five pump action guns, one dummy AK47 rifle, and one unexploded RPG bomb.

    The defence spokesman said troops recovered 2,970 ammunition, comprising 1,410 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 1,074 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, 67 rounds of 7.62 x 54mm, 130 rounds of 108mm, 101 rounds of 9mm ammo, and 146 live cartridges.

    Giving updates about troops onslaught in the Niger Delta region,  Buba said troops destroyed 83 illegal refining sites and arrested 40 oil thieves.

    He said troops recovered 914,445 litres of stolen crude, 537,325 litres of diesel and 1,285 litres of petrol.

    “Other items recovered and destroyed are 20 crude oil cooking ovens, two dugout pits, 42 boats, seven reservoirs, five drums, 50 storage tanks, three pumping machines, one speedboat, and 8 motorcycles, among others,” Gen. Buba said.

    He said troops would continue to sustain offensive operations to eliminate all threats to the nation’s peace and security.

    28 suspected terrorists killed in NAF strikes in Niger

    Airstrikes by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) aircraft have killed 28 terrorists in the Bassa community in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.

    The terrorists were killed on September 11, according to Deputy Director Information and Public Relations, Group Captain Kabiru Ali, in a statement ysterday.

    Ali said the terrorists were engaged after receipt of a request for air support from ground forces.

    He said: “Upon arrival, Nigerian Air Force (NAF) air assets observed over 100 terrorists engaging friendly forces in a fierce firefight. After confirming the positions of friendly troops, the NAF conducted precision airstrikes on the terrorists’ positions.

    “The strikes were devastating, neutralising dozens of terrorists in successive passes. As of the time of reporting, 28 bodies had been recovered from the target area, with several more terrorists, weapons, and burnt motorcycles still being cleared.”

    According to Ali, the operation underscores the NAF’s “commitment to protecting the nation and supporting our sister services and other security agencies in combating banditry, terrorism, insurgency and all other forms of criminality”.

    He assured that NAF’s would continue to conduct air operations, “independently and in collaboration with surface forces,” to eliminate threats to the peace, prosperity and security of the country.
