  • Buhari congratulates new Emir of Nasarawa, Jibrin

    President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated the Minister of State for Environment, Alhaji Ibrahim Usman Jibrin on his selection as the new Emir of Nasarawa, in Nasarawa Local Government Area, Nasarawa State.

    The President saluted the people of Nasarawa Emirate and the State Government on the hitch-free exercise which led to the emergence of Alhaji Jibrin as the 13th Emir.

    Describing the new First Class traditional ruler as a “wise choice and worthy successor,” President Buhari averred  that Alhaji Jibrin’s impeccable credentials as a distinguished public servant and land expert will be deployed to impact positively on development of his emirate.

    Buhari, in a statement by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and publicity, Garba Shehu, said “His people will benefit immensely from his wealth of experience in the Ministry of Environment,”

    While wishing the new emir a successful reign, President Buhari also urged him to build on the legacies of his predecessor and promote peace and unity in the emirate.

     

  • Mainoma emerges chairman, AFAR Council

    The Association of Forensic Accounting Researchers (AFAR) has elected Prof. Muhammad Akaro Mainoma, as the Chairman of its Advisory Council and Board of Trustees.

    A statement by the association also explained that President of AFAR, Dr. Godwin Oyedokun and 1st Vice President, Dr. Titilayo Fowokan was also elected the 1st Vice Chairman and 2nd Vice Chairman of the Advisory Council respectively.

    In his new role, Mainoma is to assume responsibilities for leading the association to growth and efficiency, given his experience in corporate governance, public sector and international accounting.

    Mainoma belongs to several professional and academic bodies both in Nigeria and abroad, including the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, CITN, Association of National Accountants of Nigeria, ANAN and International Association of Accounting Educators and Researchers, amongst others.

    He has served in several capacities in both public and private sector. He was a Commissioner for Finance in Nasarawa State and the immediate past Vice Chancellor of Nasarawa State University, Keffi.

    Commenting on his new role, Mainama said: “I’m delighted to be part of this opportunity for a focused research. As the field is getting recognition in our land, there is need to support it with cutting edge researches to explain phenomena and articulate basis of decision.

    “On this board, we shall discuss the possibility of floating a journal of Forensic Accounting and Fraud Investigation (JFAFI) as soon as possible, to provide an outfit for the publication of forensic researches only. This will be published twice in a year ,specifically March  and  September.

    President of the Association and an Associate Professor at Charisma University, United Kingdom, Dr Godwin Oyedokun expressed confidence in the capability of the new chairman to drive the association to its goal of curbing financial related crimes, essentially through research, towards economy sustainability.

    He also reiterated the commitment of AFAR to enhance forensic accounting research in Africa and beyond.

  • Gov Al-Makura approves dismissal of NASPOLY Rector, Registrar, Bursar

    Governor Umaru Al-Makura of Nasarawa State has approved the dismissal of Dr Silas Gyar, Rector of Nasarawa State Polytechnic Lafia.

    According to a statement signed by Mohammed Bako, Chairman Governing Council of the Polytechnic on Friday in Lafia, the governor’s decision is in line with the government white paper report on the investigative committee into the activities of the institution.

    The statement added that the dismissal takes effect from November 28.

    It added that the governing council had also approved the dismissal of Labani Joseph-Dio, and Ahdullahi Akyo, Registrar and Bursar respectively.

    Gov. Al-Makura therefore directed all the dismissed staff to refund the over N2 billion mismanaged by them while in office immediately.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that the dismissed staff were sent on compulsory leave Oct. 26, 2017 to pave way for investigation into their activities.

  • Al-Makura appoints 11 new commissioners

    Nasarawa State governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura has sent the names of 11 nominees to the state House of Assembly for confirmation as commissioners and members of the state executive council.

    Alhaji Ibrahim Balarabe-Abdullah, the Speaker of the House announced this after the Majority Leader of the House ,Tanko Tunga (APC-Awe North) read the t letter to that effect during the House proceeding in Lafia on Tuesday.

    The Nation reports that the 11 nominees are: Hajiya Halima Jabiru, Salisu Abubakar Haske, Pham.Victor Tella, Musa Suleiman, Hajiya Jamila Sarki , Dr Roseline Kera, Hajiya Sa’adatu Yahaya, Hudu Yamba, Dr. Clement Ehemba and Mohamed Bashir Aliyu.

    According to the letter, their appointments followed the recent reshufflement of his cabinet.

    The speaker urged the nominees to submit their curriculum Vitae(CV) on or before Nov. 30.

    He also slated Monday, Dec.3.for the screening of the nominees and possible confirmation .

     

  • Nasarawa donates 50 hectares of land for EFCC training academy

    The Nasarawa State Government has donated 50 hectares of land to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to establish a training academy  within Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital .
    Speaking to the press after taking the Acting Chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Magu  to the vast expanse of land along Kwadere road, Governor Umaru Tanko Almakura  disclosed  that the gesture  was in line with the commissions desire to establish an academy  which has long been in the pipeline, noting that the state government has secured the land and donated it or this purpose.
    Gov. Almakura disclosed that the EFCC Chairman had come to see it for  himself with a view to commence work on the project, stating that in line with his administration’s desire and commitment  to key  with the EFCC  in ensuring accountability, transparency and fighting corruption, it could not but support the EFCC with the land  and also to ensure the fast tracking of  all the approvals  for all the plans they intend to execute.

    The Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, on his part disclosed that the commission had  been trying to secure a land for about 2 years now, stating that since he assumed office on the 11th of November 2015,  one of his top priorities was to get a permanent site  for the EFCC academy because what the commission has at Karu  was  not sufficient.
    Mr. Magu said he was happy with the gesture  of the Nasarawa government by giving the academy a befitting permanent site, assuring that very soon they would start construction.
    The EFCC Boss stated that the gesture shows the commitment of the governor to adding value to President Muhammadu Buhari’s fight against corruption.
    He called on Nigerians to join the fight against corruption  stating: “I always say that in the fight against corruption, we have to join hands together, together we can kill corruption, I appreciate what he (Almakura) has done and I want to encourage everybody  and call on all to join in the fight against corruption.”
  • Man faces trial for alleged conspiracy, extortion

    A 24-year-old man, Agbo Ogbada,  on Wednesday appeared before a Mararaba Upper Area Court, Nasarawa State for alleged conspiracy and extortion.

    The defendant, who resides at Aso B, Mararaba, Nasarawa State, was docked on charges of criminal  conspiracy, assault and extortion; the offences he denied committing.

    The prosecutor, Hamen Donald, told the court that the defendant was arrested by Sgt. Friday Tnumaje, accompanied by Joseph Iduh of the same address with the defendant on Oct. 23.

    He said that the complainant alleged that the defendant conspired with two others at large to beat him up, collected his wrist watch, valued at N15,000 and a cash sum of N7,000.

    Donald also informed the court that the defendant, after extorting the items from the complainant, absconded to unknown destination, before he was later arrested.

    The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 97, 265 and 292 of the Penal Code.

    The judge, Ibrahim Shekarau, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case until Nov. 15 for hearing.

  • Court dissolves six-month marriage over husband’s attitude

    A Mararaba Upper Area Court, Nasarawa State, on Friday dissolved the six months old marriage between Saratu Abdullahi, and her husband, Malam Ja’afaru, over lack of care and inconsiderate behaviour.

    The Judge, Ibrahim Shakarau, dissolved the marriage in the interest of peace, saying that the parties have ceased to be husband and wife, henceforth.

    “The parties are to maintain peace all the time, any violation of the order of this court will amount to contempt and of course with grave consequences.

    “Also the parties should collect their divorce certificate from the registrar’s office,’’ he ordered.

    The judge advised the petitioner to observe her `iddah’ (a period a woman must observe after the death of her spouse or divorced) according to Islam rites, for three months before she can re-marry.

    Saratu had told the court that she was married to the respondent in December 2017, under Islamic rites in Mararaba, Karu Local Government Area, and the union did not produce any child.

    “He is not considerate, as a Muslim, I am not supposed to pray and fast during menstruation, but he forced me to fast and pray, knowing that I was not supposed, even though he is a Muslim too.

    “Ja’afaru does not feed me nor care for me. When I was sick, he did not take me to the hospital and sometime in June, I left his house and he did not care to bring me back.

    “He denied me sex because he has abandoned my bed for long.

    “Please, let this honorable court separate us, there is no longer love in the union and nothing can bring us together again because I have lost love and affection for him,’’ she said.

    The respondent, who was present in court, did not object the separation, and prayed the court to grant the petitioner’s request.

  • Wife to Court: My husband cannot sexually satisfy me

    A housewife, Hauwa Adamu, on Wednesday begged a Mararaba Upper Area Court, Nasarawa State, to dissolve her marriage to Isyaku Na’Allah, over alleged inability to sexually satisfy her.

    Hauwa told the court that her husband has never satisfied her sexually, and only “lasts for two minutes on top of her.’’

    She said that she married him under the Islamic rights and the union did not produce any child.

    Hauwa also alleged that Na’Allah always accused her of aborting their baby whenever she conceives, an accusation she denied.

    Hauwa said that their childlessness was as a result of Na’Allah’s lack of “sexual performance.’’

    She told the court that she was no longer interested in the marriage and begged the court to dissolve it.

    Hauwa added that she would return the Sadaq (dowry) the respondent paid on her.

    The respondent, Na’Allah, however, denied the allegations.

    The judge, Mr. Ibrahim Shekarau, adjourned the case until Oct. 29 to allow the parties settle out of court.

  • ‘We are not recruiting’, FMC Keffi warns public

    Alhaji Sadiq Sule-Iko, the Chairman, Governing Board, Federal Medical Centre ( FMC ), Keffi, Nasarawa State, has advised the general public to disregard rumours that the hospital is recruiting workers.

    This is contained in a statement issued by Malam Jamil Nagogo, the Public Relation Officer (PRO) of the centre, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday in Keffi.

    The statement said Sule-Iko gave the advice when he led the Medical Director of the centre, Dr Yahaya Adamu, and other management team on a courtesy visit to the Emir of Keffi, Dr Shehu Chindo Yamusa III, in Keffi.

    It explained that the visit was informed by the strength of speculations gaining ground in and around Keffi to the effect that the management of the centre had recently recruited new employees.

    According to the statement, the board chairman dismissed the rumour, assuring that the governing board will investigate and get to the root of the matter.

    It said the chairman warned the general public against spreading rumours inimical to the peace and progress of the society.

    “His Royal Highness, the centre is not recruiting, I want to debunk the rumours going around that the centre is recruiting,” the statement quoted Sule-Iko saying.

    It stated that the board would not embark on such exercise without informing the traditional ruler and host community.
    “The Board Chairman assured the Emir of the board’s readiness to consult him for fatherly advice, guidance and support at all times in order to move the centre to greater height,’’ it said.

    The statement added that the chairman expressed appreciation to the Emir for his continued support and assistance to the management of the centre and called for its sustenance.

    Responding, Yamusa III commended the team for the visit and prayed God to give them the wisdom and courage to pilot the affairs of the hospital creditably.

    The Emir, however, confirmed to the board chairman that there was indeed tension in Keffi regarding the alleged recruitment.
    The first class traditional ruler assured that as the chief custodian of his people, he would not watch tension rising in his domain without intervening and subduing it.

    The emir advised the management to always follow due process in running the affairs of the centre so as to ensure sanity in the system in the interest and progress of the centre and the country at large.

  • Maku urges Nigerians to elect credible leaders

    Mr Labaran Maku, the former Minister of Information, has advised Christians and other Nigerians to actively participate in politics in order to elect leaders of proven integrity during the 2019 general elections.

    Maku, the 2015 governorship candidate of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Nasarawa State, made the call on Sunday at St. Sylvester Catholic Church, New Nyanya, Karu Local Government Area of the state.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Maku was in the church to attend its first service.

    The ex-minister assured the church members of his continued support to the progress and development of the church and Nigeria at large.

    He urged Christians and Nigerians to pray for the emergence of credible leaders during the 2019 general election in order for peace to reign in the country.

    “Let continue to pray to God to give us leaders that would bring peace, unity and development in the country, this is my prayer.

    “That is why I am in politics, as you know that the church for a long time taught that politics is not part of the church or for Christians; this is a great mistake because in the days of our Lord Jesus Christ ,he asked us to be loyal to all leaders.

    “If you disconnect politics from the church, it will bring a lot of limitation.

    “Therefore, I urge all of us Christians and other Nigerians to stand up and be counted.

    “It is not true that politics is a dirty place to be left for evil people because those who control power have a lot of influence on your religion, political and social life.

    “When you have good people in authority, whether they are Christians or Muslims, society will be good; but when you have evil people, a lot of people will die before their time and there will be poverty, among others.

    “So, I call on all of us to show interest in politics and support those we believe will bring positive transformation to our lives,” he added.

    Also speaking, Rev. Fr. Lawrence Soja- Soja-Ayembugu, who is the Parish Priest thanked Maku and others for contributing positively to the development of the church.

    He stressed the need to elect God-fearing leaders in 2019 in order to enjoy the much needed dividends of democracy.
