    • Dike’s fate undecided

The management of Nasarawa United heaved a sigh of relief yesterday following the team’s 2-1 win over Kwara United in a week 26 Globacom Premier League clash at the Lafia Township Stadium.

Nasarawa United striker, Victor Namo redeemed his image by taking the Solid Miners into the lead in the 16th minute from the spot. The former Kano Pillars hitman was a culprit in the team’s last home draw against Warri Wolves when he missed one of the two penalties.

Abubakar Aliyu added to the tally in the 35th minute to seal victory for the coach Alphonsus Dike-tutored side.

Kwara United got a consolation goal through Adamu Lawal when he benefitted from a lack of communication between Nasarawa United goalkeeper, Benson Emmanuel and defender, Demekeme Tama. Adamu left Nasarawa United for Kwara United this season.

In a chat with SportingLife after the match, the club’s media officer, Musa Elayo said his side were more coordinated than in the previous game.

“Generally, it was a good game for us unlike the previous matches. The players were more determined and coordinated, especially in attack. They’ve realised that the team needs more from them and they’ve delivered today,” Elayo said.

“They’ve promised not to lose a match at home again while fighting for away wins too.”

Elayo also heaped praises on the team’s fans for their support.

“Our fans behaved well and we want more from them. We urge them to continue supporting the team till the end of the season.”

Elayo also told SportingLife that the management will review the two-match suspensions placed on members of the technical crew. The team has won one game and lost one since the suspension order.

“The management will meet to decide on the ultimatum,” he said.

  • Nasarawa United set up four-man panel

The management of Globacom Premier League club, Nasarawa United, has set up a four-man panel to probe the assault of the team’s Technical Adviser, Alphonsus Dike by supporters of the club.

Dike was beaten by the Nasarawa United supporters after the team’s 1-0 defeat to Enyimba in the Federation Cup quarter final tie at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta on Wednesday

The club’s chairman, Barrister Isaac Danladi, told SportingLife that the committee was set up to know the causes of the matter and to put an end to such un-ruly behaviours.

The committee, according to Danladi, was given the mandate to find out who was responsible for Dike’s attack and to recommend appropriate punishment for the offenders.

The committee will also counsel the management on how the supporters’ club can be re-organised to attract more members.

The management and players apologised to Dike for the unfortunate incident on behalf of the club.

“We (the management) see this action by our supporters as unacceptable. Nasarawa State and Nasarawa United FC are synonymous with peace and as such we don’t want to bring the name of the state into disrepute.

“We condemn the attack and we want to tell him that we are solidly behind him in his quest to take the team to the next level.

“We see this action as unnecessary distraction which he should not take seriously, instead he should remain focused in his assignment as Technical Adviser of the club,” Danladi told SportingLife.

LOBI STARS goal machine, Tony Okpotu who just recovered from a foot injury has promised to open his account of goals this season during his club’s away game against Nasarawa United in Lafia.

Okpotu fondly called lightning by his admirers because of his breathtaking speed revealed that he was back to the fold after his injury induced absence for about two weeks and would be ready to let Nasarawa United know about his presence today.

“I have been on the treatment table for close to two weeks but I’m back to training and I’m ready to regain starting shirt if selected by the sweat merchant, Dominic Iorfa.

“It was not good watching from the sideline while my colleagues were in search of honours and points,” Okpotu stressed.

The former U20 invitee got injured shortly after the Maputo misadventure early this month.
