  • I will return to my welding job after my tenure, says Governor Sule

I will return to my welding job after my tenure, says Governor Sule

Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has revealed plans to return to his original profession as a certified welder once his time in office ends.

Governor Sule made the declaration while delivering a special address at a roundtable organised by the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) in partnership with the Nasarawa State Government, held at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja.

He also used the opportunity to assure prospective investors of the state’s commitment to workforce readiness, noting that Nasarawa has a pool of trained and certified technicians available to support industrial operations and investment.

He said, “One of the things is that I actually started my education as a technician, as a welder, before I became a CNC Machinist and the rest of that, as you see me, shielded arc metal welding, Oxyacetylene welding, once I finish from Governor, I’m going into welding, because of that, we decided to make skills acquisition in Nasarawa State, something of pride

“We built one of the most standard technical institutions according to the NBTE. In fact, most of these big companies that are carrying out their training even here in Abuja, they train them in Nasarawa at that particular institution. Our major concern is that all these companies that are coming, we produce the technicians who can work for them,” he said

The governor used the opportunity to highlight steps taken by his administration to make investments attractive for investors in Nasarawa State.

“Most of what we do for the protection of investment in Nasarawa State is backed by law. We sponsored the executive bills to protect investments. We worked very hard to ensure we have peace and security in Nasarawa State. If you are looking for investors and you know how to look for investors, you must work very hard to have peace. Because every investor wants to hear security first.

“We have a law in Nasarawa State that clearly states that we have 5 percent of our IGR is going to go into de-risking any investment coming into Nasarawa State.  This 5 percent that goes to de-risking, part is also used in case there is a need to provide infrastructure, road, water supply, or even power,” he stated.

He promised a special tax holiday especially for investors coming into the state to invest in renewable energy, reiterating the determination of his administration to protect investments coming to Nasarawa State.

“There is a special tax holiday for renewable energy because it is a win-win situation for the investors and for our own communities that are benefiting.

“This is in addition to the fact that we have unwavering commitment as an administration to ensure that whatever you are coming to do in Nasarawa State, we are going to hand hold you and make sure that everything, whether it is by law, or by our own efforts, that your investment is protected,” he said

He said Nasarawa State is ideal for investment in renewable energy because of the tremendous potential in the area of lithium.

“The biggest lithium processing factory is in Nasarawa State.  By July, we will commission another factory that is three times the biggest lithium processing company. There are plans to build another 15m metric tons capacity factory. 5m capacity,” he said.

The Governor added that, presently, his administration is constructing a World Bank-funded Multi-door Court House for conflict resolution, assuring investors that conflict on land and tax issues would not be resolved through normal courts but through the specialised Multi-door Court House.

He disclosed plans by his administration to generate one kilowatt of power at the newly constructed state secretariat complex to make the facility entirely green.

Setting the tone for the roundtable, Abba Aliyu, MD/CEO, Rural Electrification Agency (REA), said that the Electricity Act signed in 2023 has changed the entire dynamics of the power sector.

“The Act has disrupted the entire sector by deepening the opportunity for the private sector and sub-nationals to participate in the entire electricity value chain.  It has given the sub-nationals the right to participate in generation, transmission, distribution, and other activities. Beyond these, the act has also emphasised the need for renewable energy to be used to upgrade the electricity access gap,” he said.

The REA boss said his agency is also saddled with the responsibility of developing an electrification strategy and implementation plan, which he added formed the basis for organising the roundtable.

He disclosed that 86m Nigerians lack access to electricity, the highest number in the world, with 22m people and residential households that need to be electrified.

He commended Nasarawa State for being the state with the highest number of mini-grids in Nigeria, saying REA has conducted its research to confirm the electricity needs of every state.

“We assessed each state on its ability and readiness to achieve hundred per cent electrification.  We developed a number of criteria, and we assessed this. Nasarawa State is one of the states that we assessed, and we are going to present to you the result of that assessment. How the states will move forward,” he said.

He, however, identified low budgetary allocation for electrification projects and a dearth of technical manpower as peculiar challenges that would need to be addressed in Nasarawa State.

On her part, Doris Uboh, Executive Director, Rural Electrification Fund, said the agency is funded by a USD750m World Bank facility geared towards the electrification of rural areas in the country.

Uboh congratulated Governor Sule for creating an enabling environment and ease of doing business in Nasarawa State.

According to her, it is not by accident that the most number of mini-grids are found in the state.

Congratulations on creating an enabling environment and ease of doing business in Nasarawa State.  Because it is not by accident that the most number of mini-grids are found in your state.   We collected data from across every state in Nigeria.

“It’s because you made it easy for people to come in there to work and create wealth for the local communities.  I hope more states will equally follow your lead. Because when they do that, it makes our job easier; they make it easier for us to sell these pitches.

The Nasarawa Police Command has launched an investigation into the death of five children found inside an abandoned, unserviceable vehicle in the Agyaragu community, Obi local government area.

Nasarawa Police spokesman Ramham Nansel in a statement explained: “On May 4, 2025, at about 1730hrs, one Mr. Ozimna Ogbor, a resident of Agyaragu, reported at the Agyaragu Divisional Headquarters that five children—Kamsi Onah (male, 8 years), Somer Onah (male, 6 years), Unice Udouchi (female, 10 years), Nmasoma Nnaji (female, 10 years), and Chioma Nnaji (female, 8 years)—were discovered unresponsive inside a disused vehicle parked in the compound of one Mr. Abu Agyeme, also a resident of Agyaragu”.

“Acting swiftly on the report, the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, directed the Divisional Police Officer and his team to immediately proceed to the scene.

“Upon arrival, the officers found the victims locked inside the abandoned vehicle. The children were promptly evacuated to Aro Hospital, Agyaragu, where a medical doctor regrettably confirmed all five children dead due to suspected suffocation.

Only God Almighty will chose my successor – Sule

Nasarawa Governor Abdullahi Sule has said that it is only God Almighty that will select his successor.

The decision, he said, is beyond him.

He urged residents to look forward to that moment when God will select who he pleases out of the over 20 people aspiring to succeed him in 2027.

The Governor stated this Friday at the grand reception organised by the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) Nasarawa chapter under the leadership of Hon. Safiyanu Isa Andaha in honour of Barrister Labaran Shuaibu Magaji PhD. over his recent appointment as the Secretary to the Government of Nasarawa State.

He said that power comes from God and only him has the discretion to give it to whoever he pleases and whenever he wants.

” This position of Governor, only one person will get it and all others must rally round the one chosen by God. From my count, I have seen about 20 people already in the race for Governor of Nasarawa State so far. That is what I have seen. So there is going to be a lot of alliances, a lot of forgiveness and a lot of working together if we really want to get to where we want …

” Because, at the end of the day, one person will get it and let me make it categorically clear; God Almighty alone gives this position, the Secretary to the Government of Nasarawa State, is not Engr Sule that gives the position to him, it is God Almighty that gave it to him. And so, it is God Almighty that is going to select our next governor, not Engr Abdullahi Sule for that reason, we must look forward to that time,” Sule asserted.

Sule thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for continued support to Nasarawa State.

  • First Lady to orphans: dream big, you have a bright future

First Lady to orphans: dream big, you have a bright future

First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has urged children at the newly commissioned Nana Berry Orphanage and Children’s Home to embrace every opportunity to learn, grow, and become the best version of themselves.

Addressing the children, the First Lady said “you are special, you are loved, and you have a bright future ahead of you.

“This home is a stepping stone towards your dreams, and I encourage you to embrace every opportunity to learn, grow, and become the best version of yourselves”, she told them.

Her words came as she officially inaugurated the newly constructed and furnished orphanage, a project made possible through collaboration between the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) and the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The facility aims to provide a safe and nurturing environment for vulnerable children.

Designed to house 118 girls and 118 boys, the orphanage features hostel blocks, a dormitory, a multipurpose hall, classrooms, and living quarters for staff.

It also aims to provide a nurturing environment for learning and holistic development, in line with SDG Goal 4: Quality Education and SDG Goal 5: Gender Equality.

While acknowledging the efforts of the orphanage’s founder, Mrs. Aishatu Kwalmi, and the caregivers, the First Lady charged them to continue their work with kindness, compassion, and discipline to ensure that every child grows into a responsible citizen.

However, she firmly rejected a request for additional land for farming, emphasizing that the orphanage should focus on innovative agricultural practices rather than land expansion.

“Mrs. Kwalmi was telling me that they needed another land for farming, and I said no. This place is big enough. Nowadays, we have something called smart gardening. You can grow in your bucket, and this is the time to introduce this to the children”, she stated.

She encouraged the orphanage to adopt smart farming techniques using buckets and used tires to grow crops like yams and potatoes.

“If you don’t know, we’re going to send people to you, and they will teach you what to do. But it’s very, very easy,” she assured them.

Reflecting on the inspiration behind the project, the First Lady recalled how she first learned about the orphanage in early 2023 through a television interview with Mrs. Kwalmi.

Deeply moved by the conditions of over 200 children living there, she mobilized immediate assistance and later spearheaded the construction of the new facility.

“This project also reflects the commitment of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to the well-being and development of all children, irrespective of their background,” she said.

She expressed gratitude to Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, for donating the land and ensuring the swift provision of a Certificate of Occupancy.

She also commended Hon. Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on SDGs, for overseeing the project’s execution.

The First Lady also highlighted the broader vision of the administration to ensure decent housing for vulnerable children across Nigeria.

She thanked the Nasarawa State Government for pledging continued support, noting that while many orphanages exist, not all have such facilities.

“So we’ve started with this one, and it’s the responsibility of the government to do that. Mr. President is very keen on this,” she stated.

With the commissioning of the Nana Berry Orphanage and Children’s Home, the First Lady reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing a brighter future for every Nigerian child, ensuring that they are nurtured in love and given the tools to succeed.

Meanwhile, the Nasarawa State Government has pledged continued support for the newly commissioned orphanage and children’s home, vowing to sustain its mission of providing care for vulnerable children.

Speaking at the commissioning, Governor Abdullahi Sule, who was represented by his deputy, Dr. Emmanuel Akabe, assured that the state would partner with the orphanage’s founder, Mrs. Aishatu Kwalmi, to maintain its standard and purpose.

“We would not leave this facility alone. As a state, we will partner with Mrs. Aishatu Kwalmi to maintain the standard and purpose of the home,” Akabe stated.

He noted that the state contributed to the project by providing 4,000 square meters of land, emphasizing that the initiative aligns with the government’s commitment to supporting the less privileged.

“The hope of these children is being renewed. This project has given a different face to the office of the First Lady,” he added, commending the First Lady for her leadership in championing the welfare of vulnerable children.”
