  • Two plumbers in jail for impersonation

    A Gudu Upper Area Court in the Federal Capital Territory on Thursday sentenced two plumbers, Mohammed Awalu and Mohammed Dauda, to four weeks imprisonment for impersonating soldiers.

    Awalu, 23, and Dauda, 29, pleaded guilty to the two-count charge of criminal conspiracy and impersonating a public servant contrary to section 97 and 132 of the penal code.

    The presiding judge, Alhaji Umar Kagarko, who convicted them, however, gave them an option of fine of N40, 000 each.

    The Prosecutor, Oyeyemi Adeniyi, had told the court that men of the Nigerian Army Guard Brigade reported the matter at the police station on March 9, 2016.

    Adeniyi said that the convicts were arrested by Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) operatives and handed over to military authorities when it was discovered that they were not soldiers.

    He told the court that both men were dressed in military regalia with the intension to release one of their friends detained by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

  • NDLEA arrests Nigerian, Cape Verdean for importing cocaine

    Officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a Cape Verdean in connection with the unlawful importation of 2kg of cocaine hidden in female handbags.

    The drug was detected during the inward screening of Emirate passengers at the arrival hall of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos.

    The 35- year old Cape Verdean, Rosangela Gomes Gonealves Correia and Olua Uguru Christopher, a 36- year old Nigerian are currently explaining their roles in the illicit import.

    NDLEA Lagos Airport Commander, Mr. Hamza Umar, said that the Cape Verdean whose statement was obtained in Portuguese has provided useful information to the anti-narcotic investigators.

    “The statement of the lady was obtained in Portuguese by a language interpreter. Both suspects are calm and cooperating with authorities in the investigation. The parcels of cocaine hidden inside the linings of the female handbags were found during search,” Hamza stated.
