    Hajj 2017: FG scores NAHCON high 

    The federal government has described as commendable the successful outcome of this year’s Hajj facilitated by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, NAHCON, even as it impressed on the stakeholders the need to improve on subsequent operations.

    The Minister of State, Foreign Affairs, Hajiya Hadiza Abba Ibrahim made the commendation in a speech at the Post-Arafat Stakeholders Meeting in Makkah, in preparation for the return journey of Nigerian pilgrims, who joined millions of other Muslims in performing the just concluded Hajj exercise.

    Hajiya Hadiza, represented at the occasion by Ambassador Halliru Sodangi Shu’aib said there was a remarkable improvement this year, compared to previous years, in Hajj administration.

    According to her, the successes recorded this year should serve as a springboard for better services in the coming year.

    Speaking earlier, the Chairman National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, NAHCON, Barrister Abdullah Muhammad Mukhtar, while attributing the success to divine intervention, however,  commended the Saudi authorities, State Pilgrims Welfare Boards, stakeholders, the pilgrims for playing their part.

    He also commended the Nigerian Embassy, Consulate and NAHCON management staff for their remarkable sense of humility and service to Allah, especially their decision to share their facilities at Masha’ir with some stranded pilgrims.

    The NAHCON boss while acknowledging the challenges of shortages of facilities to pilgrims and officials, said the Nigerian resilient and perseverance nature came to the fore and with Allah’s help and guidance the challenges were overcome, or at least minimised.

    In their separate speeches at the occasion, Commissioners of Operations, Finance and Administration, Alhaji Abdullah Saleh Modibbo and Alhaji Adebayo Yusuf, gave account of their stewardship, to include, habitable accommodation, feeding and transportation which Nigerian pilgrims never had it so good in the past,  like this year, and now the timely release of the scheduled flights of all the air carriers to ensure a smooth and hitch free airlift of pilgrims back to Nigeria.

    States Welfare Boards spokesperson Alhaji Abu Rimi who also gave thumbs up to NAHCON for this year’s Hajj arrangements, however, advised that some critical aspects, such as Glucometers should be sufficiently available in future Hajj operations.

    The Air carries representative and Managing Director of MedView Airline, Alhaji Munnir Bankole has hinted that the return journey was the most challenging aspect of the airlift exercise.

    He therefore, advised that state pilgrims officials should ensure that any set of pilgrims for the next flight should be made ready seventy two hours before their departure time.

    Tour operators decried the unpleasant challenges they faced this year, which were somehow tackled but had left a bitter taste in the mouth that required going back to the drawing board to take stock and map out strategies against reoccurrence.

    It could be recalled that the homeward journey is expected to start from tomorrow with the movement of Gombe State pilgrims to King Abdulaziz International Airport, Jeddah for take off on Thursday, September the seventh.

    Meanwhile, to ensure a smooth operation of next year’s Hajj, NAHCON has since constituted a technical working committee with the mandate to secure halls of residence among others.

    Barr. Mukhtar who gave this hint said, this was inevitable in the interest of the pilgrims.

    Saudi authorities hail Nigeria’s Hajj management 

    Saudi Arabia government has voted Nigeria’s hajj operations as one of the best the world over.

    This commendation is coming just as the country has been ranked second after Pakistan in the area of its health management.

    Confirming this development, the Commissioner in Charge of health, National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, NAHCON, Dr. Ibrahim Kana who spoke with some newsmen in Arafat,said this fit was one of the reasons the Saudi Health Ministry sighted in the award of certificate of merit and commendation to the Nigerian Hajj Commission.

    According to the Commissioner Nigeria made an impression on the Saudi authorities based on the  comprehensive, orderly manner and centralisation of health matters introduced this year by NAHCON,  as against the haphazard and disarray manner of the past years.

    Interestingly, he said, the Saudi Health Ministry has invited him to a meeting scheduled for next week to see how Nigeria’s experience will assist in the realisation of the Kingdom’s plan of computerising pilgrims health and medical matters while on Hajj or Umrah.

    Dr. Kana maintained that NAHCON, would ensure proper and comprehensive health services delivery to pilgrims.

    It could be recalled that, Kaduna State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, became the first in Africa and second to India to computerise hajj affairs while the Chairman of NAHCON, Barrister Abdullah Muhammad Mukhtar was the Executive Secretary of the Board.

    Hajj 2017: Saudi authorities assure Nigerian pilgrims of safety

    The Saudi Arabian authority has reiterated its commitment towards the safety and security of Nigerian pilgrims as the 2017 hajj rites commences in earnest.

    Giving this assurance Tuesday was the Deputy Governor of Madina, Dr. Wahid Alsihli.

    He spoke during a parley with Nigeria’s Charge de Affairs in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Ambassador Umar Z. Salisu and officials of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, NAHCON, where he conveyed the Saudi government’s readiness to contain the excesses of some its security operatives.

    The Secretary, National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, NAHCON, Dr. Bello Tambuwal had petitioned the Kingdom to express his dismay over the overzealous behaviour of some its security operatives at the Madina Airport.

    It would be recalled that some two Nasarawa State pilgrims were roughly handled by the security agents on arrival at the Airport.

    NAHCON’s petition had prompted the intervention of the Saudi government.

    The deputy governor, said that it was unfortunate that the guests of Allah could be badly treated by those who are supposed to show kindness to them and this he vowed will not be tolerated, hence the decision to punished the overzealous agents to serve as deterrent to others.

    The deputy governor along with the deputy Minister in charge of Hajj and Umrah Affairs in the Kingdom, Muhammad Abdurrahman Bijawy, were at the Nigerian pilgrims’ hotel to personally apologise to the victims, NAHCON, Nigerian government and pilgrims over the issue.

    Responding, the Nigerian Charge de Affairs, Ambassador Umar Z. Salisu expressed delight over the Saudi Arabian government’s humility, as to accept the mistakes of its overzealous agents, tender an apology and above all to send high ranking government officials to apologise to the two victims from Nasarawa State, Alhaji Audu Damina Muhammad and Alhaji Ibrahim Nani Godi.

    Ambassador Salisu also commended the NAHCON management in Madina for their prompt proactive measure in handling the issue.

    The Chairman Board of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, Barr. Abdullahi Mohammed, on Wednesday disclosed that Nigeria recorded a total of 280 deaths from the crane incident at the Grand Mosque in Makkah on September 11 and the September 24 stampede in Mina.

    According to him, a total of 43 Nigerians are considered missing because their status has not been ascertained.

    Mohammed made the remark while submitting the report on the 2015 Hajj to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Engr. Babachir David Lawal, in Abuja.

    A statement issued by the Director (Press) in the office of the SGF, Bolaji Adebiyi, Mohammed, noted that the 2015 Hajj was the most eventful in the history of Hajj Operations in Nigeria due to the two tragic events.

    He used the occasion of the report submission to once again, condole President Muhammadu Buhari, families of victims and Nigerians on the loss of lives.

    He assured that the report submitted contained observations and recommendations that will ensure more successes during future Hajj Exercises.

    While a total of 75,081 Nigerian Pilgrims participated in the 2015 Hajj Exercise, both the outbound and inbound flights, the statement said, were concluded well ahead of schedule.

    Shehu calls for more prayers for peace in Borno

    The Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Ibn-Garbai, on Wednesday, called for more prayers for everlasting peace in Borno.

    He made the call when members of the Borno Correspondents’ Chapel of the NUJ paid him a courtesy visit in his palace in Maiduguri.

    He expressed joy at the gradual return of peace to the state after several months of attacks by Boko Haram insurgents.

    He said “we are all happy that Borno is gradually regaining its peaceful atmosphere, especially Maiduguri the state capital.

    “Although we still have pockets of attacks in rural communities, I believe that prayer is the ultimate solution to every problem.

    “People must continue to pray for everlasting peace in the state and Nigeria in general.”

    The royal father described this year’s holy pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia as “most successful in recent times.

    He said “we have recorded tremendous successes in this year’s Hajj because there were no delays in transportation of pilgrims as witnessed in previous exercises.

    “Nigerian pilgrims conducted themselves in very good manner throughout the Hajj, but we lost 15 pilgrims.’’

    Ibn Garbai commended the Federal Government for making adequate arrangements for medical services to Nigerian pilgrims throughout the exercise.

    He added: “I want to commend the Federal Government for providing excellent medical services to the pilgrims.”

    He also commended officials of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) for their efforts in making the exercise hitch free.

    “No Nigerian pilgrim was arrested in Saudi Arabia for either drug trafficking or committing any unlawful act.

    “No female pilgrim was left behind because we made proper arrangements to make sure that women were accompanied by their husbands or relatives,” Ibn-Garbai said.

    “So far, more than 40,000 Nigerian pilgrims have been transported back home, only 26,000 are left in Saudi Arabia.

    “The transportation of Nigerian pilgrims back home will be concluded by Nov. 18 and all those who returned came back with their luggage.”
