    NYCN Diaspora wishes Nigeria prosperous New Year

    Vice President of National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) Diaspora, Ambassador Collins Idahosa, has extended warm wishes to youths across Nigeria.

    The 2024-2025 Nigeria’s Glober Award winner, in a statement, said: ” I urge our youths to remain focused, united, and committed to building a brighter future for our nation. It is imperative that we reject violence and work collectively towards a prosperous Nigeria! 

    “To all Nigerian youths, let us be the catalysts for positive change, promoting peace, unity, and progress in our beloved country.

    “I also call on the Federal Government of Nigeria to prioritize the youth in all national agendas, recognising that the youth are the future leaders and driving force of our nation.

    “Furthermore, I urge the Federal Government to re-emphasize its commitment to local government autonomy, as this will significantly enhance grassroots development and empower local communities to drive progress in their respective areas.

    “To Nigerian youths in the diaspora, I say: remain focused! Don’t let current challenges distract you from your goals. Stay engaged, stay committed, and believe that the situation will improve. Your contributions are vital to Nigeria’s growth! 

    “We also extend our warmest congratulations to Mr. Seyi Tinubu on receiving a Chieftaincy title in Boston! May this honor bring joy and recognition to the First Family of Nigeria.

    “NYCN was formed by visionary leaders to unite Nigerian youth, promote national development, and empower the next generation of leaders. We reaffirm our commitment to this purpose and call on all Nigerian youth, at home and in the diaspora, to join us in propelling Nigeria forward!

    Surulere youths urge Nigerians to shun protest

    Youths in Surulere, under the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) Surulere Branch, have urged their peers to prioritize dialogue and peace over protests that could turn violent.

    At a briefing, Olakanmi Aina, representing NYCN Surulere Branch Coordinator Temitope Ajenifuja, stated: “As the call for a nationwide protest gains momentum, the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Surulere Branch, calls upon the youths of Surulere to prioritise peace and strategic engagement rather than protesting at this critical and sensitive time.”

    Aina acknowledged the pressing issues driving the protests, such as rising fuel and food prices, unemployment, insecurity, and healthcare, which require government attention and resolution.

    He added that the hardships in the country are caused by multiple factors and that the government is working to address them.

    He said: “Achieving meaningful change requires a thoughtful and coordinated approach. Therefore, we urge the youth of Surulere to adopt a stance that balances advocacy with caution.”

    He called on the youths to consider the consequences of the #EndSARS protest that saw massive looting of businesses in Surulere and destruction of infrastructures.

    Aina added that the pieces of information coming from the organisers show ulterior motives under the guise of protesting hunger.

    Ogun youth celebrates NYCN chairman

    The youths of Ogun state have described the 10th state chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Akolawole Shoremi, as a visionary and inspiring leader.

    In an open birthday letter titled ‘Celebrating Olóyè Akolawole Shoremi: A Selfless Leader and Youth Advocate’, signed by heads of different youth organisations in Ogun state, the youths expressed their pleasure in celebrating the birthday of Shoremi.

    The letter written as solidarity reads in part: “As Olóyè adds another year on March 7, on behalf of the youth constituency, we commemorate and express our utmost appreciation for his invaluable contributions towards empowering the youth of our great State.

    “Under Olóyè’s leadership, the National Youth Council of Nigeria is making tremendous strides towards realizing the Youth Council of our dreams. His working document tagged the Progressive Pentagon, which outlines key areas of focus for youth development in the State, showcases his commitment to creating a better future for the young people in Ogun State.

    “Within a hundred days in office, Olóyè’s vision and dedication to the youth constituency is yielding results in enhanced educational opportunities, improved sporting ideals, agricultural advancements, increased job prospects, and empowerment initiatives currently providing our young people with the tools to succeed.

    “In addition to his responsibilities as the youth leader of Ogun State, Olóyè selflessly serves as the Coordinator for the Ogun State Taskforce on Human Trafficking. In this capacity, he works tirelessly alongside the Ogun State Government and the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons to combat trafficking in persons and the smuggling of migrants. His efforts highlight his dedication to eradicating this heinous crime and protecting the rights and well-being of young people.

    “Therefore, on this special day, we, the youth Stakeholders of Ogun State, take this opportunity to celebrate the youth Leader of our State — Olóyè Akolawole Shoremi — as we commend him for his selfless service, inspiring leadership, and unwavering commitment to youth development.
