    Navy Sailing Club marks Independence in style

    The Navy Sailing Club Ojo, Lagos was a beehive of activities as the club celebrated Nigeria’s 63rd Independent with different water sports on parade.

    Tagged Independence/Commodores Boat race 2023, the event saw senior and junior athletes showcasing their skills in swimming, boat race and kayak.

    Speaking at the event the special Guest of Honour Rear Admiral PC Nwatu, FOC Navy Training Command (NAVTRAC), represented by the Commandant NNS Quorra, Commodore A. Yahaya revealed that further technical collaboration is in the pipeline to help the club do better.

    “We are going to start training collaboration next year, a form of Technical consultancy as a way of generating funds for them to maintain the Sailing club” he assured.

    Chief host and Commander NNS Way, Commodore M.Y Dahiru while expressing satisfaction with the level of competition, said  aside from celebrating the country’s 63rd independence, the activities are in line with “the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) Rear Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla’s strategic directive 06 of 2023 which emphasizes on physical fitness, sporting activities and recreation of personnel”

    He assured of his continuous support to making the Sailing Club conducive for sports, recreation, and social activities.

    It was a mix of recreation and sports as the Independence/Commodores Boat race 2023 took the centre stage Sunday at the Navy sailing Club Ojo, Lagos.

    The well-attended event was used to mark the country’s 63rd independent saw athletes in senior and junior categories at their best at the one-day tournament.

    Aside from boat race, other events that featured prominently include swimming in which athletes as young as six and above showcased impressive skills, thus raising hope that the future is bright for Nigeria.

    The special guest, Rear Admiral PC Nwatu, FOC Navy Training Command (NAVTRAC), who was represented by the Commandant NNS Quorra, Commodore A. Yahaya said that further technical collaboration is on to lift the fortunes of the club to do better.

    In some of the competitions, GP 14 Final saw Alaba Mathew and Ekiye Joseph claim top position while in men’s swimming Agbamire Isaac claimed first position with Alonge Paul and Alaba Joseph finishing 2nd and 3rd  respectively.
