  • 2019: No obstacle to Buhari’s victory, says Nda-Isaiah

PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari will return elected in 2019 without hitches, Leadership Newspapers Publisher Sam Nda-Isaiah assured at the weekend.

He said the good work being initiated under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration would enable Buhari retain his exalted seat.

He spoke to reporters in Akure, the Ondo State capital, after he was conferred with the chieftaincy title of “Aare Baroyin” of the ancient kingdom at the weekend.

Nda-Isaiah, who was a former APC presidential aspirant, however, said the party must not take things for granted.

He stressed the need to rally more support for Buhari to win the 2019 presidential poll.

His words: “I am a member of APC and I will be supporting our candidate, President Muhammadu Buhari, for the 2019 presidential and general elections.

“He will win again. Although, we are not taking things for granted that he will win just like that without any hard work.

“There is need for hard work and to explain to Nigerians about his good work, which will bring him in again.

“We are not going to take anything for granted. Of course, you all know I am not contesting this year, but I am going to rally round for his support.”

He noted that the party’s manifesto, which has spelled out the promises to the people, shall be reactivated to fulfill the “change agenda” of the Buhari-led administration.

According to Nda-Isaiah, the nation has experience a remarkable change under the APC government, mostly in agricultural sector.

This, the media executive explained, would be part of the APC campaign strategy as 2019 general elections gathered more momentum.

“Things have started growing again and we have become the biggest economy in African in spite of every other challenge. Don’t forget that recession came in and things have to change and we overcome this recession of a thing.

“Also, there are many revolutionary changes that have happened in the agricultural sector under the current government, which speaks loud,” he said.

  • NDA-ISAIAH ELECTED PMAN GOVERNOR

THE members of the FCT Chapter of the Performing Musicians Employers Association of Nigeria (PMAN) have formally endorsed Solomon NDA-Isaiah as it governor following the resignation of Collins Adeyemi, the erstwhile governor.

This was made during its usual general meeting held March 31 at Rita Lori Hotel Garki, Abuja.

In his acceptance speech, NDA-Isaiah promised to work diligently for the upliftment of the association and for the benefit of all musicians adding that he was ready to put in his time resources, energy and contact to see to the success of the association. He also stressed on the need to bring in all aggrieved members together so that the association could regain its lost glory.

“I contested as the chairman of PMAN FCT in 2004 but lost to Makossa Queen. I had wanted to lead the PMAN FCT Chapter because of the big plans I have for the Abuja music scene and musicians. But due to some factors, I couldn’t really achieve that at that point. But I later bounced back 10-years later to win the deputy governor position of the association. I am here on a rescue mission…It’s time to face reality. I don’t believe in talking too much, I believe in action and I need the full cooperation of all the musicians in Abuja in order to revamp the industry. I promise to do all within my powers and with God by my side, we are going to move PMAN FCT Chapter to greater heights,” he promised.

Also reacting, the PMAN Secretary, Vincent Omoko aka Cent Moko congratulated the new Governor, pledging his undying support. He also called on all members to support the new governor to move the association forward.

King Waleman also set the mood high with one of his popular tunes Garin Kano.

Until his appointment, NDA-Isaiah served as deputy to Adeyemi.

  • Debtors’ list: Heritage Bank apologises to Nda-Isaiah

The Heritage Bank( formerly Enterprise Bank) has apologised to the Publisher of Leadership Mr Sam Nda-Isaiah, for erroneously including his name, his wife’s (Zainab) and Banana Republic in the list of chronic debtors of the bank.

Nda-Isaiah is also the chairman of Banana Republic Ltd.

The bank tendered the apology  in an August 31 letter to the publisher.

The letter reads: “We refer to our list of chronic debtors published in two national newspapers on August 3,2015, that included Banana Republic Ltd, your name, Mr. Sam Nda-Isaiah and that of your wife, Zainab.

“We wish to state regretfully that the inclusion of Banana Republic Limited, your name and that of your wife on the list was done in error.

We also acknowledge that negotiations are ongoing for the liquidation of the facility

    granted to Banana Republic Limited

“The bank holds you, your family and Banana Republic Limited in high esteem. Again, we egret whatever insinuation or public harm done to your persons.”

Nda-Isaiah  had petitioned the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor over the defamation of his character by Enterprise Bank Limited.

The bank on Monday, August 10 listed Banana Republic Limited as one of  its delinquent debtors.

But Nda-Isaiah, in a petition to the CBN Governor, called for an investigation into the loan granted to him by the bank.

He  admitted that in 2013, Banana Republic asked Enterprise Bank for an N80million facility for the expansion of its business into Maitama District in Abuja and the construction of a 5-star hotel in Guzape, Abuja, on a 1.4 hectare hilltop prime location.

He said: “We placed the 1.4 hectare hilltop land in Guzape worth more than N2billion as security for the N80 million facility since it was the same bank that would also handle the hotel project anyway. The loan was promptly approved by the bank because it was considered a good project.

“But that was when our problem started. It was at this point that our account officers started behaving strangely and unprofessionally. Sometimes they even showed signs of incompetence.”

“The breakdown of the approved facility was N67.5million for the purchase of equipment and N12.5million for working capital to operate the restaurant.

“Upon approval, our account manager opened an escrow account in our name without our knowledge and deposited N67.5million and started charging interests right away from July 25, 2013, on the entire N80million sum, without any form of notification to us.

“It was only several weeks later that the management of his food and hospitality outfit knew that an unusual banking practice had happened, alleging that they were not allowed to draw the equipment facility even though they had started charging us interest on the entire approved sum.

“The first drawdown of N18,647,500.00 in August was only allowed nearly one month after they had started charging interest on the entire loan sum. The next drawdown of N43,372,500.00 in September 2013, was only allowed nearly two months after commencement of interest charges to us.

“The total sum we were allowed to draw from the N80million facility was only N61,920,000.00 even though they were charging interest on the entire N80million approved,” he said.

According to Nda-Isaiah, when there seemed to be no headway, he then instructed the group managing director of his holding company to intervene, which he promptly did by traveling to Lagos, the head office of the bank.

He noted that the failure of the bank to allow drawdown of the N12.5million working capital, which was part of the N80 million facility, complicated the dispute further.

Nda-Isaiah denies N80m debt in petition to CBN governor

A former presidential aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Sam Nda-Isaiah, has petitioned the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele, on the alleged N80 million  debt credited to him by Enterprise Bank.

He accused the bank of impugning his character and the integrity of his family by putting his name and his wife’s, Zainab, on the list of over 500 bank debtors.

In the 13-paragraph petition of August 11, 2015, Nda-Isaiah said he would not sit down and watch a public image and a brand he built over the years be “undernined because of the incompetence and unfathomable motives of some people”.

He said in 2013, Banana Republic approached Enterprise Bank Ltd for a facility to expand its business into Maitama District in Abuja and the construction of a Five-star hotel in Guzape, Abuja, on a 1.4 hectare hilltop prime location.

He said while the loan was approved by the bank, the procedure was unprofessional

Nda-Isaiah  said:  “Even though owing a bank is not a crime, the fact that the term “name and shame” was what the bank said they were doing, I have been defamed and they have given an opening to a newspaper house  (which cannot allow this kind of opportunity to pass) to further smear me and even add innuendoes that were not in the bank’s publication.

”Sometimes they even showed signs of incompetence. The breakdown of the approved facility was N67.5 million for the purchase of equipment and N12.5 million for working capital to operate the restaurant.

“Upon approval, our account manager opened an escrow account in our name without our knowledge and deposited N67.5 million and started charging interests right away from July 25, 2013, on the N80 million, without any form of notification to us.

He said after the equipment was installed, the bank refused  “to allow the company drawdown the approved working capital, which was to be used to operate the restaurant. Various letters requesting drawdown were not even replied to.

He added: “When there seemed to be no headway, I instructed the group managing director of our holding company to intervene, which he promptly did by travelling to Lagos, the head office of the bank.”

Nda-Isaiah said “the failure of the bank to allow drawdown of the N12.5 million working capital, which was part of the N80 million facility, complicated the dispute.

“Banana Republic informed the bank that they were not going to pay interests on the amount that had not been disbursed. Even as I write this, Governor, the N80 million has still not been disbursed to the company but interest charges are going on.

“Because there was a dispute, we stopped paying money into Enterprise Bank as their practices became similar to a Ponzi scheme or at best a strange strain of voodoo banking.

“About three months ago when communication was re-established with the head of Abuja operations of the bank, it appeared that we were at last making a headway. Because of that, we promptly paid in N5.6 million on June 3, 2015, into the account in good faith, pending the resolution of the dispute.

“We also agreed to pay N5 million every week for three weeks starting from last week to bring down the indebtedness as we expected them to pay the balance of the N80 million immediately and redress the voodoo interest rate schemes they had been engaged in since 2013 even before we started operating the facility”.

Magazine honours Ahmed, Nda Isaiah, others

KWARA State governor, Abdul Fatah Ahmed, has been bestowed with the HOG (Hall of Fame) magazine award.

The event which took place at the Memory Gathering Events centre, Ikeja, Lagos was attended by two-time minister of information, Chief (Dr.) Alex Akinyele, who is a grand patron of HOG magazine; former Ogun State governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, and APC presidential aspirant, Mr. Sam Nda-Isaiah. Former Head of State, Abdulsalami Abubakar, was also represented.

In his keynote address titled: ‘Growing Nigeria, A Collective Responsibility’, Ndah-Isaiah gave knocks to the present government for mis-managing Nigeria’s economy.

He said:  “In spite of all the negative news from Nigeria, in spite of all the gloomy stories of corruption, insecurity, loss of territory to criminals, Nigeria has been growing, at least in economic terms. When we rebased our economy, with a GDP of $510billion, our annual growth rate remained around 6per cent annually; which is good. But even at this, we can double if we are more serious. But what manner of growth is this?

“In spite of this growth which makes Nigeria Africa’s biggest economy, Nigeria has more than 100 million people who are desperately poor, according to some reports that place the poverty rate at 60 per cent. What that means is that only very few Nigerians reside in the sectors that are growing the economy.  If one also looks at the incidence of poverty in the north, especially the far northern states are the ones that are extremely poor. This should easily explain the reason why it is easy to recruit youths into terrorism in most of those states.

“Conservatively, more that 54 per cent of Nigerian youths are unemployed. But in some of those far northern states, they get as bad as 80 per cent. In education, 70 per cent of the students who sat for the WAEC examinations this year failed. And, according to UNICEF, 10.5million Nigerian children are out of school. This is the highest in the world, ” he lamented.

Speaking, Mr. Rupert Ojenuwa, the managing director and editor- in -chief of the magazine, explained the concept of the yearly awards and the induction ceremony.

“The criterion for inducting anybody into HOG hall of fame is proven contributions to nation building that span up to three years. While HOG awards focuses on activities and impacts of potential awardees during a preceding year. The Hall of Fame looks at consistency in adding value and contribution to nation building through various agencies.

  • Buhari declared winner of APC primaries

Buhari declared winner of APC primaries

Former head of state, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd), on Thursday secured the All Progressives Congress presidential ticket after edging out four other aspirants at the party’s primary election held at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

According to the result announced by the Chairman of the Convention Planning Committee, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, Buhari polled 3, 430 votes to brush aside competition from Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, who recorded 974 votes.

Former vice president Atiku Abubakar came third with 954 votes.

While Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, got 624 votes, the Publisher of Leadership Newspaper, Dr. Sam Nda –Isaiah, garnered 10 votes.

16 votes were declared invalid by election officials.

The election result was signed by agents of the five presidential aspirants.

Following Buhari’s success at the APC primaries, the stage is now set for a titanic battle between the Daura-born former army general and President Goodluck Jonathan of the Peoples Democratic Party in next February presidential poll.

The former head of state had contested three previous presidential elections in 2003, 2007 and 2011, losing on those occasions to PDP candidates.

Over 7,000 delegates took part in the exercise  monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials, including the National Commissioner, Col. M.A. Amanga and the Lagos State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Adekunle Ogunmola.

Meanwhile, Atiku has congratulated Buhari over his victory at the primaries, saying his triumph at the poll was well deserved.

“Gen. Muhammadu Buhari ran a spirited campaign, and that since the delegates have spoken, he fully deserves the victory.

“I am very confident that you will provide the needed leadership to turn this country around. I have no doubt that you will work with dedicated and qualified Nigerians to protect our citizens, improve our economy, create jobs, improve education, reform governance and fight corruption.

“You will indeed bring the change Nigerians have been yearning for. Once more, congratulations,” the former vice president said in a statement issued by his media office in Lagos.

Nda-Isaiah: APC consensus presidential candidate possible

ALL Progressives Congress’ (APC’s) presidential aspirant Mr. Sam Nda-Isaiah believes a consensus presidential candidate for the party was still possible.

But he reasoned that the candidate should be chosen by the aspirants themselves.

The Publisher of Leadership newspapers spoke after casting his vote at the party’s governorship primary in Minna, Niger State.

Nda-Isaiah: “I cannot rule out the prospect of a consensus candidate because even 24 hours is a long time in politics. A consensus candidate should be chosen by the aspirants themselves and would be base on the facts on ground that the candidate is more likely to win for the party.

“But so far, that has not been done and no meeting or attempts have been made on the issue at all. As it is now, all of us are aspirants preparing for the primaries.”

The aspirant praised the conduct of the governorship primary in Niger State, hailing the electoral committee for “a good organisation and peaceful conduct.”

He added that if the conduct was peaceful in other states, then APC would have shown that it was an orderly and peaceful political party.

Nda-Isaiah said the opposition party has a divine responsibility to salvage the country from further decay, pledging the APC would rise to the challenge.

He said: “If President Goodluck Jonathan is allowed to rule for another four years, Nigeria will not be able to survive it again. The country cannot survive another four years of an incompetent administration.

“APC has a divine responsibility to win the 2015 elections. Even if it be by default or an act of omission or by anything we do on our path to make Goodluck Jonathan continue, even if we allow him to rig, Nigeria will not be the same again for the four years he will rule.

  • APC clears Buhari, Atiku, others for presidential primaries

APC clears Buhari, Atiku, others for presidential primaries

The Presidential Screening Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has cleared former Head of State, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari and Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to contest the December 10 the party’s presidential primaries slated for December 10 in Lagos.

Also cleared are Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, his Imo State counterpart, Owelle Rochas Okorocha and the Publisher of Leadership Newspaper, Sam Nda-Isaiah.

Before their clearance, the five aspirants were made to sign an undertaking not to decamp to any other party if they failed to get the party ticket and to support whoever emerges as candidate at the end of the primaries.

Speaking before presenting clearance certificates to the five aspirants who were screened on Tuesday, the Committee Chairman and former National Chairman of the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), Chief Ogbonnaya Onu, said the time has come when Nigerians must make a decision whether to continue with the present state of affairs in the country or effect a change for the better.

Onu said the problems of Nigeria has persisted not because they are insurmountable, but because the nation has not found the right leadership, pointing out that the APC was formed to fill the vacuum and provide the leadership required for the nation to grow.

He said: “This committee would want to appeal to Nigerians that the time has come for our country to take a stand. There is a choice before us. Are we going to continue the way we have been going in the last 16 years when our security forces are used to intimidate and harass the very citizens who pay for their maintenance?

“Are we going to continue a situation where we are the sixth largest exporters of crude oil and yet we import virtually all the petroleum products that we use and as we do this, we are exporting jobs and rendering our people unemployed? Is this what Nigerians would want to do?

“Are we going to allow a situation where the rule of law is violated and there is no orderliness whatsoever? This is a choice for Nigerians. The ruling party has had 16 years and so, it is not a question of making promises. We are judging them on their records because they told us that within two years, there will be regular and reliable supply of power for 24 hours a day and seven days a week. This is the 16th year and that promise has not been fulfilled.

“So, Nigerians have a choice to make because when you have two things, you can never know until you try them. So, Nigerians ought to try the APC and give us a chance to show that the problems in the country can be solved.”

  • APC screening tough — Atiku

    APC screening tough — Atiku

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has on Tuesday in Abuja described the screening carried out by the All Progressive Congress (APC) for presidential aspirants as tough.

The former vice-president, who made the assessment while speaking to newsmen after his screening, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the screening was conducted by the APC Presidential Screening Committee.

“It was a hot seat. There were several questions on the economy, insecurity, jobs among others. “The screening was tough but we pulled through,’’ Atiku said, adding that he was ‘grilled’ for 58 minutes.

Fielding questions from journalists, the APC presidential aspirant said: “I have been on campaign for two months, and I am ready.

“On the allegation that I am trying to buy the party over by donating everywhere I go, I think it is false; we can donate to whomever we want,’’ he said.

He said that APC would take the final decision as regards where its presidential primary election would take place.

Also speaking to journalists after their screening, Gov. Rabiu Kwankwaso of Kano state and Dr. Sam Nda-Isaiah also said that APC would take the final decision as to the primary election venue.

“The choice of Abuja as venue is central for someone from Adamawa or Yobe; traffic in Lagos is also a factor but whether Abuja, Lagos or Benin the party has the final say,’’ Kwankwaso said.

Governor Kwankwaso, while expressing satisfaction with the committee members further said: “they asked lots of relevant questions.

“We are successful and will return tomorrow for our certificates”.

Nda-Isaiah likened the screening to a job interview.

“It is the biggest job interview in Nigeria. “I want to be president to effect change not to feel good. My reign we will be harsh on corruption.”

There must be justice, equity and fairness; all crimes must be punishable irrespective of the status of the perpetrator,” he summed.
