…denies terror ties
The Niger Delta Wagner Volunteer Force (NDWVF) has called for urgent federal intervention in the escalating insecurity plaguing the Abacheke community in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State, while strongly denying allegations linking the group to terrorist activities.
In a formal petition addressed to the Inspector-General of Police, the Chief of Defence Staff, and the Director-General of the Department of State Services, NDWVF dismissed claims of terrorist affiliations as “false, damaging, and an orchestrated campaign of misinformation.”
A legal representative of the group, Barrister Charles Ameachi said, “NDWVF organization has been misconstrued and mislabeled, and we demand that our name be cleared. We unequivocally condemn terrorism and reject any organization that promotes violence or extremism.”
The NDWVF stressed that its mission is rooted in peaceful advocacy, environmental protection, and social justice for the Niger Delta people, and urged national and international stakeholders to recognize its community-based efforts.
Meanwhile, concern is mounting among residents of Abacheke community, who are also calling on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Senate and the National Assembly to intervene swiftly to forestall further breakdown of law and order.
In a separate petition signed by five legal practitioners, Charles Ameachi, Okoronkwo Uzoma, Henry Oputa, Eric Nduka, and Charles Amadi—community members detailed disturbing reports of armed groups, political interference, and rising threats to public safety.
“Our community has received disturbing reports that certain individuals, some of whom are said to be politically affiliated, may be linked to the escalation of violence and insecurity,” the petition reads.
Residents allege that a police officer, reportedly attached to a political figure, was found in possession of sophisticated weapons, an incident that has heightened fear and unrest in the area.

“People are afraid to move freely. There are groups allegedly mobilizing to intimidate residents. This situation is threatening the peace and stability of our community,” said Barrister Okoronkwo Uzoma.
The petitioners are calling for a thorough, independent investigation into the reports of arms trafficking, political interference, and community intimidation.
They also seek the immediate deployment of federal security personnel to protect lives and restore order.
“This is not an indictment of any individual or group,” the petition clarifies. “It is a sincere plea for help. We urge the government to act now to prevent violence, displacement, and the erosion of peace in our area.”
While the NDWVF continues efforts to dissociate itself from any criminal or violent activity, and the Abacheke community presses for intervention, stakeholders are united in demanding transparency, accountability, and swift federal response to prevent a worsening crisis in the oil-producing region.
