    Ideye nets 12th goal

As the countdown to the 2013 AFCON in South Africa heats up, one star that looks set to win one of Coach Stephen Keshi’s attacking shirts is Brown Ideye. The former Ocean Boys ace scored his 12th goal of the season by netting a brace in the Kyiv Derby game against Arsenal in the Ukraine Premier Liga.

An 88th strike from Husyev saw Dynamo compounding the woes of Arsenal Kyiv who are now placed 8th on the 16-team league format.

Ideye then made the night a sweet one for himself when he scored his second in extra time after combining with Dudu to make it 4-0 for his team.

Similarly, less than 48hours since Kalu Uche fired his 7th goal of the season for Kasimpasa in Turkish Super Lig, former Super Eagles striker, Micheal Eneramo showed why he should be considered for the 23-man party to South Africa when he scored Sivasspor’s third in the 4-2 victory over Kayserispor on Sunday.

Obagoal, who was charged by Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi to double his on-field efforts if he is to catch the train to South Africa 2013, scored his first away goal for Levante on Sunday against Depotivo la Coruna.

The all-important goal came in the 40th minute of the match following an assist from teammate Barkero, increasing Obagoal’s goal haul for the club so far to five. Prior to Sunday’s tie, the former Wolfsburg and Rubin Kazan forward had registered four goals at home which includes two goals in the 3-1 defeat of Granada, a lone goal against Valencia and a goal in the 2-1 defeat of Real Sociedad respectively. Levante’s away victory Sunday did not however come easy as the centre refereee Miguel Pérez was forced to dish out as many as eight yellow cards, garnished with a red that handed Obafemi’s teammate Pedro Lopez the marching orders in the 54th minute. Five of the yellow cards went to the homers who fought like wounded lions all in a bid to stop Levante from running away with the three points at stake.

Musa also provided an assist for Lavia national Aleksandrs Cauna to convert and increase the tally to 3-0 just before final whistle.

Cauna incidentally had come in as a last-minute replacement for Liberia international Sekou Oliseh who was inspirational in the Lone Star’s battle against the Super Eagles in the last match of the Nations Cup qualifier recently in Calabar.

Musa joined CSKA from Venlo for Five million Euros early this year.

Super Eagles forward and Levante striker Obafemi Martins was in superlative form for his side on Sunday grabbing two goals in the 12th and 61st minutes respectively to the delight of teammates and coach Juan Ignacio.

The former Rubin Kazan forward, who was recently given a be-ready-to-return-to-Eagles notice, by coach Steven Keshi ahead of the AFCON Championship in South Africa, was a tormentor-in-chief against visiting Granada from the first blast of the whistle.

Although the former Wolfsburg forward, who has now scored four goals for Levante, got a yellow card in the 45th minute, he was not detered as he went ahead to grab a 61st minute goal in style.

Martins, who has scored seventeen goals in 32 appearances for Nigeria, has since arriving Levante become a must-play for the side. Musa saw full 90 minutes action in the clash but his Liberian teammate Sekou Oliseh, who played in the opposing side on the battle of Calabar, was an unused substitute.

Kazan had their woes compounded by a red card handed Ivan Marcano. The Spanish import had earlier bagged a yellow card before getting the marching orders in the 68th minute.

Martins shot the homers into the lead in the 22nd minute of the match after getting an assist from Uruguay import Gustavo Adolfo Munúa Vera.

The former Wolfsburg ace however bagged a yellow card in the 46th minute in an encounter that can best be described as rough. No fewer than 10 yellow cards were dished out by centre referee Carlos Del Cerro Grande with five of the cards going to Martins and his teammates while the visitors got five.

Martins’ goal came as a big relief to Levante who have suffered back-to-back defeat to Osasuna and Hannover ‘96 before Sunday’s match. While the former Rubin Kazan striker was part of the squad when they went down 4-0 to Osasuna, he was not part of the 2-1 loss away to Hannover in the Europa clash October 4th.
