  • Ogun students get new executives

    Ogun State students, under the aegis of National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS), have  elected new executive members to manage their affairs for the one year.

    The peaceful election, which took place at the Training College of the Civil Defence Corps in Abeokuta, had in attendance delegates from various tertiary institutions.

    Under the watch of reporters, security agents and stakeholders, they voted their preferred candidates.

    According to the electoral committee chairman,  Comrade Kehinde Olaonipekun, Zaka Abidemi Azeez emerged president with 17 votes to defeat his closest rival, Ogunrombi Gbemileke, who had seven votes, while two votes were voided.

    Other executive members are: Akinremi Samson Eniola (Vice I); Okeleye Odunayo (Vice II); Adegelu Collins (Vice III); Sowole Basit (General Secretary); Abdulazeez Bashir Adegboyega (Public Relations Officer I); Jolaosho Azeez (PRO II); Nurudeen Popoola (PRO III); Abolade Ibrahim (Financial Secretary); Adeyeri Sodiq (Treasurer); Adekunle Tobi (Welfare Director), Abidogun Abisoye (Social Director), Olaniyi Timothy (Assistant General Secretary I), Bamgbela Surprise (AGS II).

    Similarly, elected legislators are: Sodiq Shakiru (Senate President); Ajayi Oluwafemi (Deputy Senate President), Oshikomaya Gbolahan (Clerk) and Sodunke Ganiu (Chief Whip)

    Olaonipekun described the election as satisfactory and in line with the constitution of the association.

    The electoral chairman also used the medium to state why the previous election was cancelled.

    “You will recall that the first election was held at Iwe Iroyin last month, but was hijacked by some miscreants. In the wake of that incident several petitions were received from the delegates, chapter heads, stakeholders and security agencies. As a result of this, we declared that election null and void.

    “I am happy that today’s election is peaceful and followed due process. We had 26 chapters accredited out of 48 as a result of threat by some hoodlums, who do not want this rerun to take place,” he concluded.

    In his reaction, Zaka, a 400-Level Mechanical Engineering undergraduate of Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH), expressed appreciations to all who stood by him. He promised to sustain the peaceful atmosphere in Ogun State and work with  Governor Dapo Abiodun in the interests of all indigenous students

  • ASEA elects new executives

    The African Securities Exchanges Association (ASEA) has elected Mr. Karim Hajji, Chief Executive Officer of the Casablanca Stock Exchange, as its new president. Hajji took over from Mr. Oscar Onyema, Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE), who had completed two terms of two years.

    ASEA is the association of 28 securities exchanges in Africa with the aim of developing member exchanges and providing a platform for networking. ASEA was established in 1993.

    Other officers constituting the newly formed ASEA executive committee include, Mr. Geoffrey Odundo, CEO of Nairobi Securities Exchange, Ms. Nicky Newton, CEO of Johannesburg Stock Exchange, Mr. Mohammed Farid Saleh, CEO of the Egyptian Exchange, Mr. Thapelo Tsheole, CEO of Botswana Stock Exchange and Mr. Pierre Ekoule, CEO Douala Stock Exchange, Mr. Koffi Yamoah, CEO of the Ghana Stock Exchange and Mr. Pierre Celestin Rwabukumba CEO of the Rwanda Stock Exchange.

    Hajji promised to work with each member of the executive committee to continuously advancing the vision of ASEA while delivering value to the membership.

    He commended Onyema for the good work done in the past four years, assuring that the new executive committee will build on the legacy he has left behind.

    “I believe that through advocacy and strategic lobbying, ASEA will be able to unlock opportunities for the much-needed liquidity in the African financial markets,” Hajji said.

    The new Deputy President, Dr. Edoh Kossi Amenounve, said he would work with the current and new members of the executive committee of ASEA by supporting Hajji in his assignment as President of ASEA.

    Onyema thanked the executives of the association for the support accorded to him during his four years in office.

    “The successes that the Association has enjoyed during my tenure as President would not have been possible without the relentless support of the executive committee members and that of the ASEA Secretariat. Thank you for supporting my vision for the Association.” Onyema said.

    The official opening of the 22nd Annual ASEA Conference kicked off on November 26, 2018 at the Oriental Hotel, in Lagos. The Conference themed; Champions on the Rise; Africas Ascension to a More Sustainable Future” underpins the need for operators of African capital markets to fully embrace sustainable business practices, as well as the opportunities and risks presented by the fourth industrial revolution.

     

  • Transcorp Group gets new Executives

    Transnational Corporation of Nigeria Plc (Transcorp) has announced new appointments to its Board and executive management.

    Valentine Ozigbo will take office as President/CEO from January 1, 2019.  He will succeed Mr. Adim Jibunoh, who is retiring on December 31.

    Ozigbo is currently the MD/CEO of Transcorp Hotels Plc, owner of the prestigious Transcorp Hilton Abuja. He will bring over 20 years’ experience in banking, business development, hospitality and corporate transformation.

    Owen Omogiafo has been appointed the MD/CEO of Transcorp Hotels Plc effective from January 1, 2019.  She is currently the Executive Director, Corporate Services at Transnational Corporation of Nigeria Plc.  She has over 18 years’ corporate experience in organisational development strategy, human capital management, banking, change and business management.

    The Board of Transcorp also approved the appointments of Ms. Obi Ibekwe and Mrs. Toyin F. Sanni as Non-Executive Directors, following the retirement of Mr. Kayode Fasola and Alhaji Abdulqadir Jeli Bello.  These appointments are effective from October 30.

    Transcorp Hotels Plc has also announced the appointment of Emmanuel Nnorom as the Chairman of its Board, following the retirement of Alhaji Abdulqadir Bello.

    Mr. Nnorom is the Group Chief Executive Officer of Heirs Holdings, after retiring as the President/CEO of Transcorp.  He brings over three decades of professional experience in the corporate and financial sectors, working with publicly listed companies.  He is an alumnus of Oxford University’s Templeton College, and a prize winner and Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria.

    Chairman, Transcorp Mr. Tony O. Elumelu expressed his confidence that the newly appointed chief executives and non-executive directors will further strengthen Transcorp’s core purpose of improving lives across Nigeria.

  • CIBN holds AGM, elects new executives

    The Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) is set to hold its Annual General Meeting (AGM) and election into its Governing Council.

    The AGM and election scheduled for Saturday, will hold at the Bankers House, Victoria Island, Lagos, between 10 am and 12 noon.

    President/Chairman of Council of the institute, Prof. Segun Ajibola, will chair the meeting.

    The institute has reviewed its electoral system by leveraging information technology, thus optimising the process and giving its targeted audience access to a transparent, accessible and cost effective electoral process for a democratic selection of its leaders.

    Electronic voting has been considered to be an efficient and cost effective alternative to the current classic voting procedure which is expected to attract specific group of people, like young electors/voters to participate in the election.

    The proposed solution also aims at eradicating challenges and providing a complete solution with adequate level of security, anonymity, authentication, data security, tractability among others.

    In line with the Institute’s tradition, chairmen and chief executives of banks, presidents of the institute, presidents of other professional bodies, top government functionaries, Fellows, Honorary Senior Members, Associates and other stakeholders have been invited to attend the meeting and exercise their franchise to vote.

    The meeting will also consider the Annual Reports and Accounts of 2017 operational performance of the Institute and other important matters affecting the industry and the welfare of members.

     

  • Council gets new executives

    New executives of Ikeja Local Government have taken their oath of office.

    The Chairman, Mojeed Balogun, advised the executives to work as a team to get results.

    He urged them to see Ikeja as an entity which needs to be promoted beyond their personal needs.

    Secretary of the council Comrade Akim Dauda said it is a privilege to be called to serve. He promised to work with the legislature and executive to achieve the council’s objectives. Supervisor for Woman Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Mrs. Adenike Yusuf promised to champion education and skills acquisition for women and youths.

    Supervisor for Environment Mrs. Olutoyin Obaseki said Ikeja will not be tagged a dirty environment as she will complement efforts of the state and local government towards attaining a cleaner Lagos.

    Mr. Taiwo Daniel, supervisor for Education, promised to improve education by giving out free GCE forms and school uniforms to pupils.

  • NBA Aba gets new executives

    New leaders of the Aba chapter of the Nigerian Bar Association ((NBA) have been elected. Mr Kenneth Nwakanma is the new chairman; Perfect Okorie (vice chairman), Onyekachi Nwagbaoso (Financial Secretary), Queenderlin Ubani (Treasurer), Ijeoma Emeku (Social Welfare), Charles Nsobundu Oluchukwu (Secretary), Chukwudi Chibuzo (Assistant Secretary), Ngozi Anthonia Onuorah (Welfare) and Friday Ohajuru (Publicity Secretary).

    They were sworn in by His Lordship, O. C Okpom.

    In his acceptance speech, Nwakanma said, “All of us are victors…the war confronting us now is reconciliation, peace and consolidation…all of us are necessary soldiers in this army and I cannot succeed without any one of us. I call on every member of our great branch irrespective of local leanings, or ideological inclination to please come on board and let us all together march NBA Aba to victory reconciliation, peace and consolidation”.

    The NBA chairman used the opportunity to eulogise the past and previous leaders of the Bar and commended their “long lasting programmes that have seen our great branch to a level worthy of emulation.

    “I must confess that with the pace set, I have been greatly challenged but I assure you that I will do all within my powers to sustain the tempo and perhaps surpass it”.

    Nwakanma’s immediate predecessor, Chidozie Ogunji thanked the members of the branch for their support, describing his stay in office as a time that provided him the opportunity to improve on his experience in human relations.

    Ogunji, wished the new executive well and stated his readiness to assist and advice them whenever his contributions were needed.

    The event which featured the presentation of certificates of return to the newly elected leaders, also witnessed the inauguration of Young Lawyers Association, Aba branch.
