    Timaya celebrates 10 years with new single

    Timaya is set to drop a new single titled ‘I like The Way’.

    Billed for January 15, 2016, the singer is also celebrating his 10 years as an artiste.

    Appreciating his fans for their support, he stated: “Starting the year with this one, drops on Friday 15th of January. Anticipate 2016- 10 years in the game… standing taller and stronger… (I know the boy is a stupid idiot, an asshole, a controversial bastard) but salute to all my fans all over the world for your love and support.”

    Timaya, whose real name is Enetimi Alfred Odon, was born on 29 November 1977. The Nigerian singer and songwriter founded the South South hip hop group, Dem Mama Soldiers.

    His solo career began in 2006 with the release of Dem Mama, which also appeared on his debut album True Story, released the following year. His second album Gift and Grace was released in 2008.

    Timaya gained further visibility and international prominence through his third studio album De Rebirth, and its lead single Plantain Boy. Both reported to be commercially successful. He collaborated with Dem Mama Soldiers on the album LLNP (Long Life N Prosperity). In 2012, Timaya released Upgrade, which spawned hits Bum Bum, Sexy Ladies, and Malonogede. To date, his work has earned him four Headies Awards, and one Nigeria Music Award.

    One of Nigeria’s youngest saxophone players, Tejiri Emore, popularly known as TJ Sax, is celebrating the yuletide for his fans with a brand new single titled I do.

    According to the youngster, the song has a perfect blend and rhythmic combination of the saxophone, drums and keyboard which can set listeners’ mind at ease and can be played anytime, anywhere especially with its beat that is sure to get you on your feet dancing.

    Born on Nov 2001 in Lagos Nigeria, TJ has played at the Aso Villa in Abuja in 2011 at the First Lady’s children’s day party where he thrilled the First Lady and her guests with an awesome performance and rendition of the national anthem. Tejiri has also played in various churches, corporate events like the Mutual Benefits annual thanksgiving, charity homes and orphanages.

    He released an album in 2011, which contains tracks like Forever Young, Original by Jay-Z, He Lives in Me, Original by Diana Ross, a Sax Medley and a host of other songs. The teenage saxophonist has performed alongside artistes like MI, Sasha P, Mode 9, Rock Steady, Dammy Krane, Solidstar, Vector, Sound Sultan and Tuface Idibia.

    Tejiri Emore supports Children Living with Cancer Foundation (CLWCF), a Non-Profit making charity organisation dedicated to the care and welfare of children with childhood cancers and their families in conjunction with the Oncology ward of the Paediatrics Department of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH).

    Gloria Ibru features Dede Mabiaku in new single, Africa

    Classy singer, Gloria Ibru, who recently clocked 50, is set to release a new single titled Africa. According to information, the new track features Afrobeat singer, Dede Mabiaku.

    The gorgeous mother of one has been an icon in Nigerian music industry, performing live for about 30 years. Though the singer has battled health issues in the recent past, she says that she is not resting on her oars as she brings Dede’s talent to bear in the new single.

    According to Gloria, the song is a fusion of different genres and is a great song that celebrates Africans and our value.

    The Sugar Mama crooner says that the single is one of the songs that will make up her album which will be released in December. The album launch, she also says, will coincide with the launch of her foundation which will cater for victims of spinal cord injury.

    “Recording this song with Dede Mabiaku, my old time friend was a delight. The song titled, Africa is out now and we are shooting the video presently. Africa is part of the songs that will make my album. Sugar Mama was dropped early this year. In my album, I’m bringing a fusion of jazz, highlife, calypso, afro pop and other genres of music together,” Gloria enthused.

    Aramide releases new single

    Fresh from being nominated for the ‘Female Artist of the Year’ award at the Nigerian Entertainment Awards (NEA), Nigerian Afro Soul/Jazz singer, Aramide, on Monday, released a new single, I Don’t Care. The song follows the success of her last single, Iwo Nikan.

    Released on Baseline Music and produced by Sizzle Pro, I Don’t Care is a Jazz fusion ballad at its core. Music pundits have rated the song high for its excellent piano arrangements, drum patterns, horn sections and vocal melodies.

    The record sees Aramide flexing her song-writing dexterity, as she waxes lyrical about losing yourself in your passion.

    According to Aramide, I Don’t Care is “about being passionate about something or someone so much that you lose yourself in it. That thing might be love, friendship, career, although expressed from the love angle. And people feel you are wasting your time or don’t see any good in what you believe in.”

    Already working on her debut album which is to be released in 2016 via Baseline Music, Aramide is set to wow audience ahead, with the launch of a series of acoustic sessions on her YouTube channel in the coming weeks.

    JahTea talks new single, Vanity

    Nigerian reggae artiste, Taiye Obasunyi, better known as JahTea in music circles, is set to release his new single titled Vanity.

    The graduate of Geography from the University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria, describes the new track as a reality song that talks about how people sell their souls for success and how some others are imprisoned in their wealth. He revealed that the track was produced by Lloyd Cambell of Joe Frazer Records Miami, USA. He also says that the video for the track is set to be released.

    The artiste, also a mosaic artiste, says that he started loving Reggae music over three decades ago,inspired by music from the likes of I-Roy, King Yellow Man, Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Lucky Dube and says his current influence is SizzlaKalonji. He started his musical career singing in church and specializes in a fusion of Roots, Culture and Dance hall Reggae which he delivers in English, Bini and Yoruba accompanied also by keyboard playing.

    Professionally, JahTea started music with a three man band ‘The Soul-Criers’ in 1996 with an album titled Clarion Call. He has worked with the likes of Kumboye Sinclair. He is also a member of Billy Bronco’s Roaring Thunder International Sound System who are his executive producers.

    JahTea is currently in the studio working on other tracks like Seize and Settle,which features a collaboration with Jomo Morgan of Morgan Heritage and Freeway, a collaboration with Lieutenant Shotgun, which are set to also be released shortly.

    The artiste is currently being managed by StrongBreedRecords.

    Solidstar promotes new single

    Notable singer, Joshua Iniyezo, aka Solidstar has dropped his first official single for the year.

    Titled In My Head, the song which is produced by Kuk Beat, was released by the R&B artiste with a photo shoot which he shared on the social media recently.

    In My Head is coming after his 2014 song, Baby Jollof, featuring Tiwa Savage, which enjoyed massive airplay across radio stations in the country.

    The artiste in the photo release posed in different attires: a black suit with fitted white shirt, a complete denim jeans outfit and white trousers and a long sleeve shirt, complimented with a blue jacket.

    Solidstar started his musicial career in Ajegunle, when Achievas Music moved him from there to Festac, where he dropped his first single, One In a Million.

    In 2014, he signed an ambassadorial deal with the Nigerian Football Supporters Club, to compose and perform the theme song for Brazil 2014. The deal had Solidstar record the official Super Eagles theme song which was used to unite and inspire the players on and off the pitch.

    Rising musician, Fela Yomi-Layinka, also known as Phizzle, has been absent from the music scene for over a year. He is however back with a new single and a video for his track, Biggest.

    The music writer and singer, in a statement, said that distancing himself from the industry as at the time he left was to concentrate on his career and build himself to become a brand by working with the best hands to bring out something fresh and distinct for his fans.

    The Ibadan-born singer revealed that the new song was shot at different locations in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital. The video, according to Phizzle, is a visual interpretation of self-confidence.

    Chocolate City rapper, Mr. Incredible and South African Hip-hop star, AKA recorded a new single last weekend and, according to information, the release date will be made known soon.

    AKA, who recently stormed Lagos for a couple of shows, made this known on his Instagram page when he posted a photo of himself and M.I. He captioned the picture; “Got to kick it with a real African rap legend last night @mi_abaga … music on the way!!,”

    AKA has in the past made music with a number of Nigerian artistes including Burna Boy and Ice Prince.

    The singer recently made headlines when he disparaged the South Africa media and its negative coverage of his career. According to him, the press in South Africa focuses more on his activities online rather than his achievements and successes.

    “Media isn’t interested in reporting about my tour, or my successes or my triumphs, they are more interested in ‘What will AKA tweet today,’” the South African rapper tweeted while in Nigeria.

    His tweets also revealed that he gets more respect in Nigeria than his own country. “I feel more respected and welcomed in Nigeria than I do in South Africa. And that’s the sad truth,” he further tweeted.

    The award winning rapper is in Nigeria as part of his tour of West Africa. He was one of the headline acts at the popular Lagos concert, One Mic Naija, The unplugged music concert which held on Sunday at the Ember Creek, Lagos.

    AKA thrilled guests with a string of performances which include some of his hit songs like Jealousy, Levels, Run Jozi, Congratulate and a host of others.

    Eccentric Nigerian singer, Terry G, has revealed that he will be releasing a new song featuring the late Dagrin. The track, he said, will be contained in his soon-to-be-released album.

    The artiste made the revelation when he shared a photo of the late Dagrin on his Instagram page with the caption: Terry G ft Legendary Dagrin soon to come…#blood

    @dagrin9ja….u can never be forgotten…still number 1…you inspired a lot…#DAGRIN4LIFE #barakogrin #MYALBUM #thisyear’.

    As a singer, the controversial Terry G has two studio albums. His debut album, titled Terry Gzus, was released in 2011. His sophomore, Book of Ginjah, was released in 2013.

    Dagrin, real name Oladapo Olaitan Olaonipekun, was an award-winning Nigerian artiste who achieved fame as an indigenous language rapper before he died on April 22, 2010. His style of rapping incorporated Yoruba, English and Pidgin English.

    In 2010, he was nominated for the Nigerian Entertainment Awards for Best Album (C.E.O.), Hottest Single Pon Pon Pon, Best Rap Act and Best Collaboration with vocals. His album, C.E.O. (Chief Executive Omota) won the Hip hop World Award 2010 for best rap album. From it came the singles Pon Pon Pon, and Kondo.

    Dagrin worked with other Nigerian artistes such as Y.Q, 9ice, M.I, Iceberg Slim, Omobaba, Terry G, Code, Mistar Dollar, TMD entertainment, Omawumi, Chudy K, Bigiano and Konga. He associated with music producers like Sossick, Dr Frabz, Sheyman, and Frenzy.

    A film on his life story titled Ghetto Dreamz was released in April 2011.

    Ground-breaking disc jockey, Jimmy Adewale Amu, popularly known as Dj Jimmy Jatt, has just shot the video of Glasses Up, a song off his second album called The Industry. The move marks another achievement in the career of the artiste, as the album is already topping the iTunes Nigeria music chart, displacing 2face’s new album, The Ascension, which had been number one since its release on July 26.

    Glasses Up serves as the anniversary theme song of JimmyJatt’s 25 years celebration in the music industry. Shot in Lagos, the Afro-beat inspired sound track was produced by Tee-Y Mix and directed by Patrick Elis. It features award-winning artistes such as 2face Idibia, Sound Sultan and Burna boy.

    Glasses Up is a toast to my friends, fans, supporters, well wishers who have stayed true to my music and for the support in the past 25 years,” said JimmyJatt.

    When he came out with a single entitled Stylee in 2007, Jimmy Jatt made waves as an innovative disc jockey who thinks outside the box. The success of the song ,which featured 2face Idibia, Mode 9 and Elajoe, added crest to his career, earning him several awards such as Channel O Africa Music Video Award, Hip hop World Award, SoundCity Music Video Award, Nigerian Music Video Award and Nigerian Music Award nominations.

    Determined to beat the records of his previous work, The Definition, a 26-track mix tape featuring over 50 of Nigeria’s best artistes, including D’banj, 2face Idibia, Banky W, Ice Prince, Vector, Olamide, Waje, Skales, Zaina and Phyno, the work has been adjudged the biggest collaborative album out of Africa.

    Regarded as one of the pioneers of Nigerian Hip hop music, Jimmy Jatt began his career by collecting rap albums from the ‘70s and ‘80s, owing to his strong interest in Hip hop.

    Jatt, who has a TV programme called Jimmy’s Jump Off, has performed on the stage with American singers, including Usher Raymond, Shaggy, Eve, K-C1 and Jojo, Naughty by Nature, Carog Wheeler, Magic System, David Hyden and Sean Paul, among others.
