Nigeria league joint leading scorer, Afolabi Okiki has disowned a former top official of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and he is set to sign a six-month contract with a top Argentine club this week.

Former Shooting Stars left winger, Okiki scored 13 goals for Sunshine Stars in the Nigeria league, but quit the club over unpaid wages to jet out to Argentina last week, as first reported by AfricanFootball.com.

A frantic former NFF chief, who claims to own the player through Prime FC, finally reached the player and his agent in Argentina to lay his claim only for him to be rebuffed by both of them.

“The chief, who was calling from his home in South Africa, made a passionate plea to Okiki to return to Nigeria, promising that Sunshine Stars will pay all his unpaid salaries and anything else he needs. He also told him he has a deal for him in Europe,” a source told AfricanFootball.com.

“The big man was so desperate that he even called the player’s wife, who he has never set eyes on, to plead with her husband to return to Nigeria.

“But despite all the drama, Okiki told the big man he does not belong to him and he has never played for Prime and does not have an agreement with the club.”

The former NFF chief has been involved with several other players including Mikel Obi and Kayode Olanrewaju.

“The truth is that past and present NFF officials are all agents like this Baba,” another source told AfricanFootball.com.

    NFF upholds Giwa FC’s expulsion

The Disciplinary Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has ratified the expulsion of Giwa FC by the League Management Company (LMC).

The Jos-based side were sent packing from the Nigerian top-flight after failing to honour three cumulative games which breached league guidelines.

Giwa FC were banished to Ilorin to play three home games after unruly fans marred a league game involving the home team and Enugu Rangers in May.

However, the team did not travel to Ilorin to play the games but elected to travel for away games. The LMC brought down the hammer on the Jos-based side and they were thrown out of the league in accordance with the league statutes.

The NFF Disciplinary Committee has now upheld the decision of the LMC to expel Giwa FC from the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

“The committee finds Giwa FC in breach of Rule B13.28 of the NPFL Frame Work and Rules which states that ‘if a club fails to honour three matches cumulatively within the league season without an acceptable reason to the LMC such a club shall be expelled from the League and its matches played and unplayed shall be cancelled,’” the committee revealed.

Despite being given an opportunity to appear before the panel to defend themselves, Giwa FC failed to show up.

The NFF Disciplinary Committee also upheld the N10 million fine imposed on Giwa FC in line with the NPFL Frame Work and Rules.

Giwa FC will also pay N650,000 as expenses for match officials as well as N1 million to Enyimba for expenses incurred for the Match Day 18 fixture.

SUPER EAGLES JOB: NFF settles for Serbian coach

    • Green hits Serbia this week
    • Glasshouse chiefs deny Le Guen, reject Ince
    • How Frenchman Tigana lost Eagles deal to Oliseh

SportingLife can confirm authoritatively today that the next Super Eagles Technical Adviser will be a Serb coach with a rich resume known to the football world, if the words from the Glasshouse in Abuja on Sunday are anything to take seriously.

To underscore the seriousness that the NFF chiefs attach to the matter, SportingLife can reveal that the body’s technical committee chairman,  Chris Green will depart the country this week to discuss with the three Serbian coaches on the list and invite them for an intreview session to be conducted by one of Nigeria’s respected coaches, whose pedigree in the industry has been appreciated in FIFA and CAF.

Indeed, a top member of the federation poured cold water on the stories making the rounds in the international media platforms that Frenchman Paul Le Guen has been paid $50,000 to become the new Super Eagles manager.

A decent source at the Glasshouse revealed that the body doesn’t have that kind of cash to pay any foreign manager at the moment, insisting that the interim coach, Salisu Yusuf would be allowed to handle the team while Flying Egales chief coach, Emmanuel Amuneke would work as his assistant. Alloy Agu will keep his position as the team’s goalkeeper trainer.

Sportinglife gathered that Frenchman, Jean Tigana would have been given the Super Eagles job, having satisfied the requirements listed by the NFF. But the intervention of two key members of the board’s executive board suggested that the federation should pick Sunday Oliseh for the job. Oliseh got the job but resigned due to personal reasons.

Jean Amadou Tigana (born 23 June 1955 in Bamako, French Sudan, now Mali) is a former French international footballer, having played in midfield and managed professional football extensively throughout France, including 52 appearances and one goal for the France national football team during the 80s.

He most recently coached Chinese Super League outfit, Shanghai Shenhua. In his prime, he was a tireless central midfielder, renowned as one of the best midfielders in the world during the 80s.
