NFF sure of trophy – Sanusi

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has expressed confidence that the Golden Eaglets will retain the FIFA  U-17 World Cup  in Chile  after thrashing Australia 6 – 0 in the knock-out stage to book a ticket to the quarter final against Brazil

Reacting to the Eaglets victory, NFF scribe Dr. Sanusi Mohammed said the players and officials have been adequately motivated by the Federation to  enable them excel in  Chile.

“The federation expects nothing but the trophy as end of the year gift to Nigerians. What the team need now is the prayers of Nigerians and also to avoid injuries,” he said.

Against Brazil in the quarter final on Sunday,  the Secretary General stated categorically that the Federation was not worried of Eaglets meeting Brazil as Nigeria has a better record in U -17  Championship than Brazil.

“Look we are not afraid of Brazil rather Brazil should be afraid of Nigeria because we have better records in this category. The Eaglets defeated them in a four nations tournament as part of the build up to the competition and they will still beat them again,” Sanusi boasted.

  • FIFA PRESIDENCY: “NFF didn’t sabotage Odegbami”

FIFA PRESIDENCY: “NFF didn’t sabotage Odegbami”

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has absolved any Nigerian of the blame of working against the nomination of former Green Eagles Captain Segun Odegbami for the position of FIFA Presidency, instead the Federation has blamed the former international of starting the process very late.

According to the NFF President, Amaju Pinnick, the Federation did everything  possible to ensure that the aspirations of the former international scaled through, but the processes started very late.

“Segun Odegbami told us that all he needs is the endorsement of the federation that he would get the other five endorsements from other African countries. It was only few days to the closing of nominations that we got to know that he did not get the endorsements before then.

“I took the form to Cairo and was going from table to table to get it endorsed, but most of the countries were giving excuses that they have committed themselves to other candidates. If he had started early enough, we would have gotten the endorsement before the closing date. We learn daily, and would get it right next time,” he said.

Speaking in the same vein, the former Chairman of NFF Technical Committee, Christopher Green also absolved the NFF of any wrong doing, saying that Odegbami did not start his process early enough “Don’t blame the federation because first and foremost we did not put our house together in the sense that we had two candidates vying for the same position. But in other climes no country presented two candidates, only one. I do realise that it was three to four days to the closure of the nomination that Segun Odegbami was given the endorsement by the federation.

Realistically speaking, unless he did his home-work before the endorsement, there is no way he can shuttle five countries in Africa to get the endorsement within four days “Whatever happened to his candidacy I don’t know. I don’t know whether the NFF submitted his form.

“But I really doubt  if he complied with all the conditions set out by FIFA. And that is why the NFF brought out her  own conditions and when you meet up, the federation will take up the rest.

One of the conditions is that you must be popular in the game as an administrator. But if you are not, the federation will find it difficult to market.

“It is the responsibility of the NFF to forward the nomination form to FIFA but it is not the responsibility of NFF to get the required endorsement for the candidate. It depends when he gets the endorsement from other Africa countries to forward to the federation to submit.

“It is not the NFF that is contesting the election, it is an individual thing. When Sepp Blatter contested it was not Swiss but Blatter.

On why the Federation did not call the two aspirants to harmonise things, the NFF Executive Committee member said: “The truth of the matter is that they made things difficult for the NFF. This is the first time we have two candidates contesting for position in CAF, FIFA, WAFU. Usually it is the NFF that brings out a candidate to contest because they are the managers of the game in the country.

“When Amos Adamu was   there it was  only him that the federation endorsed, the same with  Galadima and Aminu Maigari. But a situation where you have two candidates going for the same position, it becomes difficult. The way forward is for us to put our house and ourselves together for future elections with a plan to get one candidate nominated, have the candidate fulfill all the conditions as so specified in the FIFA electoral guidelines and help the candidate get endorsement for other countries. It is a project that you need a minimum of four  years to prepare.

“You can’t wake up in three months and say you want to meet another country for endorsement with the federation and you know that a country can only endorse one candidate,” he said.

NFF surprises Eagles with qualification bonus

The victorious home based senior national team, Super Eagles B, had more reasons to smile on Sunday night after the leadership of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) approved that players and officials be paid extra amount of money as performance/qualification bonus for the 4th African Nations Championship.

SIASIA TO LEAGUE CLUBS: Seek permission from NFF, not me

Coach Samson Siasia has directed all clubs in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) requesting for the release of their players for league games to send their requests to the General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Mohammed Sanusi, as he (Siasia) has no power to release any player.

Expressing displeasure at the requests being made by these clubs for the release of their players, Coach Siasia said: “While I understand with them that they need their players for club engagements, I also want to remind them that they need to co-operate with us to qualify for the football event of the Rio Olympic Games, and the only way we can achieve this objective is by having all the players in camp to train so we can pick only the best legs.”

The U-23 supremo disclosed that for now, no player will be released from the camp, and that aside those in the Super Eagles B that were in Ouagadougou for Sunday’s CHAN qualifier against the Etalons of Burkina Faso, all other players must report to camp and be part of the team’s training session today, or forget about reporting to camp altogether.

  • Eagles official lauds NFF arrangements

    Eagles official lauds NFF arrangements

Super Eagles Coordinator, Pascal Patrick, on Saturday praised the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for ensuring the comfort of players, coaches and other officials of the national team.

A statement by Ademola Olajire, NFF spokesman, said that Patrick commended the body, particular on the improvement of travelling and accommodation arrangements.

It said that NFF had sustained a habit of chartering aircraft for the senior national team for away matches under the Amaju Pinnick led board in the face of financial constraints.

“The truth is that the NFF must be commended for the travelling arrangements that make things so easy for our players.

“Coming here to Ouagadougou, we flew in a comfortable jet for less than two hours from Port Harcourt.

“If we had to travel by regular flight, we would have spent days on the road and players would complain of fatigue as we transited from one place to the other.

“ The NFF arrangements deserve praise,’’ it said.

According to the statement, Patrick, who is also vice chairman of Bauchi State Football Association, played for various clubs in the country.

It added that the coordinator also played in the U-23 and Super Eagles and is highly schooled on the physical and mental exertions of travelling by regular flights.

“Whoever says the Pinnick led NFF has not done very well is only being mischievous.

“ I experienced firsthand what it means to travel by regular flights and getting to the opposition venue much fatigued. The story has changed,’’ it added.

  • NFF stops recalling of players from Dream Team camp

NFF stops recalling of players from Dream Team camp

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has notified all clubs whose players are in the U-23 National Team (Dream Team) camp, that from  October 25, no player will be released from the camp to honour any league match until further notice.

A statement signed by the NFF Deputy General Secretary,  Emmanuel Ikpeme, said the notification has become necessary in view of the fact that the Africa U-23 Nations Cup slated for Senegal is only slightly more than a month from now, adding that this competition will determine the qualification of the Dream Team for the Men’s Football Event of the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The statement averred that it is indeed worrisome that due to the regular requests by clubs whose players are in camp, for weekly league matches, the coaches of the Dream Team hardly have up to 10 players to work with at a time, disclosing that this is unacceptable to the NFF.

As a result, the rules guiding the release of players from the national camp will be fully applied, meaning rescheduling of league matches (where a team has more than four players in a camp) or two players to be released, and non-release of players where a team has not more than two players.

The Dream Team are preparing for the 2nd Africa U-23 Cup of Nations, which will take place in Senegal between November 28  and  December 12 . The team will square up to Egypt, Algeria and Mali in Group B, with only the three top -placed teams in the competition qualifying to represent Africa in Rio de Janeiro next year.

  • NFF promotes Adamawa ahead of Plateau United

NFF promotes Adamawa ahead of Plateau United

Adamawa United will now be promoted to the Nigeria premier league ahead of Plateau United after the Nigeria Football Federation organising committee awarded Plateau’s last game to its opponents Spotlight.

Plateau is expected to appeal this decision within 48 hours, officials told africanFootball.com.

The disciplinary and organising committee decided Thursday that because of the delayed kick-off of the final match between Spotlight and Plateau United in Katsina, the match has been awarded to Spotlight.

Adamawa thus finished top of its group with 29 points, while Plateau recorded 26 points.

Precedence was set in the 2011/12 season, when Adamawa lost out on promotion to FC Taraba because the club’s final match also started late.

This decision also means Spotlight stayed up and Kogi United and Yobe Desert Stars have been relegated to the amateur league.
