    NFF O&D upholds LMC rulings

The Organising and Disciplinary Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has approved most of the recommendations made by the League Management Company (LMC) after a meeting held on Wednesday in Abuja.

The Committee upheld the decision of the LMC which asked Enugu Rangers to play 6 home matches without their fans and as such having already honoured four out of the 6 games, the Flying Antelopes will still prosecute ties against 3SC(Week 13) and Sunshine Stars (Week 15) without their fans. They will however be free to play in the presence of their supporters and fans as from their Week 17 home clash against oriental brothers, Heartland. The sanction was the fallout of the Rangers game with Warri Wolves in Enugu in Week 3 where two players of the club were alleged to have beaten up the centre referee after a goalless draw.

The O&D also resolved that the Rangers’ duo of Seun Taro and Pierre Coly who were alleged to have beaten up the centre referee during the disputed game against Warri Wolves in Week 3 to appear without any excuse before it on 30 May 2013 in Abuja.

Also the Committee has ruled that Kaduna United should also play their next five home games behind closed doors after their supporters brought the game to disrepute when they beat up match officials and the cameraman of the visiting Enugu Rangers in a Week 4 tie. They were also told to pay a fine of N200,000 and the medical bills of the injured referees.

The committee also upheld the ruling of the LMC regarding Kano Pillars and Heartland affair in Kano in a Week 8 tie to be replayed but with a change in date and venue to ensure the game is played on a neutral ground in all entirety.

The game now comes up on May 30th and would take place at the mainbowl of the Confluence Stadium,Lokoja. The new date was picked based on the fact that the old date of May 29th clashed with Democracy Day in the country.

The committee could not decide on the Lobi Stars versus Enyimba (Week 10) and Nasarawa United versus Wikki Tourists (Week 11) games but instead postponed verdict on those games and others till May 30th when it will have next sitting.

  • Sidney Sam dumps Nigeria for Germany

Sidney Sam dumps Nigeria for Germany

Bayer Leverkusen midfielder, Sidney Sam, has finally opted to play for Germany ahead of Nigeria after he was called up to the national mannschafft squad ahead of the friendly internationals against the United States and Ecuador in June.

Sam, who has played for the Germany under-19 team is eligible to play for the Super Eagles and has been courted in recent months by the Nigeria Football Federation and head coach, Stephen Keshi.

However, Sam may never get to dorn the green-white-green after it was revealed that he had been called up by the Germany coach, Joachin Loew for the friendly matches.

The NFF has now reacted to the development through an Executive committee member who refused to have his name in print.

“Keshi won the Nations Cup in South Africa without Sam so I don’t really see it as such a big miss. Besides Sam hardly speaks a word of English and would have struggled to gel with the rest of the bunch. I also hope for his sake, that Sam does not end up like Patrick Owomoyela who went on to represent Germany without any real fruits to show for it,” the NFF member told Supersport.com on Thursday.

Sam has been capped 19 times at junior level for Germany netting three goals.

The statement said the friendly was to prepare the team for its busy schedule in June.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Super Eagles will play against Kenya on June 5 and Namibia on June 12 before proceeding to Brazil for the FIFA Confederations Cup from June 15 to June 30.

The invited goalkeepers alongside Enyeama were Chigozie Agbim of Warri Wolves and Austin Ejide of Hapoel FC.

  • Poor continental outing worries NFF

NFF General Secretary Musa Amadu has revealed to SportingLife that the poor performance of the country’s club sides in their various continental assignments this year has become a source of concern for the leadership of the Federation.

Amadu said that henceforth the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) will be fully involved in the preparation of such teams to ensure that they give the country a good representation.

“We are very worried about the performance of our teams in both the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup where all our clubs were knocked out in the preliminary stage.

“From next year, the Federation will be ready to give all the clubs technical assistance to ensure that they perform creditably.

“First, we will have to review the performance of these clubs, and find out the causes of the problems, before knowing where we will come in. We are determined to avoid such in future.”

The scribe was optimistic that with the peace brokered between the Club Owners and the League Management Company a credible champion would emerge at the end of the season.

Kano Pillars, Lobi Stars of Makurdi, Heartland International FC of Owerri and Rangers International of Enugu were all eliminated from the continental competition by clubs from less fancied soccer nations. Heartland were walked-over while Lobi Stars were bashed 7-0.

  • Keshi to pay assistant coach

    Keshi to pay assistant coach

Super Eagles Coach, Stephen Keshi, has opted to pay his Togolese assistant Valere Houandinou, who was affected by a backroom shake-up.

Valere, who also worked with Keshi to qualify Togo to the 2006 World Cup, was laid off by a “broke” Nigeria Football Federation recently.

“Keshi has decided to shoulder the burden of paying Valere’s salary after the NFF said it was running low on funds to carry the huge wage bill of the Super Eagles,” Keshi’s brother and manager Emmanuel Keshi told MTNFootball.com

“The big boss decided to support the NFF at this time because the federation’s president Aminu Maigari is a good man who has been very sincere and supportive in ensuring that the Eagles succeed.

“As part of the efforts towards moving forward, Keshi has resolved to use his goodwill for the NFF, remember President Goodluck Jonathan gave him a blank cheque upon his return from South Africa, Keshi intends to cash that cheque now by appealing to the President to support the NFF.

“You would agree with me that the burden on the NFF is huge, the U-17, U-20 and the Super Eagles are all preparing at the same time.”

  • CHAN: NFF in dramatic U-turn

    CHAN: NFF in dramatic U-turn

Nigeria Football Federation has rescinded a decision to pull out of the 2014 Championship of African Nations, MTNFootball.com reports.

The decision was taken on Wednesday at an executive committee meeting with officials saying this will encourage and give opportunities to home-based professional players who have been part of coach Stephen Keshi’s rebuilding process all along.

A broke NFF had earlier hinted that the country will pull out of the competition which is for the players based in the various home leagues due to a cash crunch.

The home-based Eagles will therefore honour the qualifier against Cote d’Ivoire in June.

Nigeria is yet to qualify for this tournament since it was founded in 2009.

Next year’s CHAN will be hosted by South Africa after it was originally to be staged by Libya

The NFF executives also approved the recommendation of the technical sub-committee for the appointment of Amodu Shaibu as national technical director.

Kashimawo Laloko and James Peters will assist him.

NFF also approved the programmes and preparation plans for the Super Eagles, the Flying Eagles and the Beach soccer national team ahead of upcoming matches and championships.

NFF, LCC squash section condole with Ige

Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has commiserated with the CEO of HotSports Nigeria Limited, Taye Ige, over the loss of his mother, Madam Aduke Ike, who passed on recently.

The NFF in a letter signed by its General Secretary, Musa Amadu, said it is deeply mourning with the entire Ige family in their time of grief, as the death of a mother and family matriarch, from whose fountain of wisdom everyone drinks, is usually very painful and sorrowful.

It said: “we are consoled by the fact that death is an inevitable end for every human and that the departed Madam Ige left her giant footprints in the sands of time as a much loved community leader and devout Christian, strict disciplinarian and the mother of a number of prominent citizens making waves in their chosen careers.”

Similarly, the Squash Section of the Lagos Country Club has also expressed its condolences to its Chairman, Ige, over the death of his mother. The section, in a letter signed by Demola Olusunmade, its Vice Chairman, said Mama Ige will be remembered for her kind-heartedness, faithfulness and support to the good cause of humanity, exemplified by the lives of her children which is a testimony to the type of upbringing she gave them.

Madam Ige, popularly known as Mama Olopo-Ewa, died in Lagos after a brief Illness and will be buried on June 1, 2013 at Efon-Alaye. According to the burial arrangement released by the family, the Christian Wake takes place on Friday, May 31, 2013 at her residence at K52, Isare Street, Efon-Alaye by 5pm. • NFF: No Eagles revolt over slashed bonus

NFF: No Eagles revolt over slashed bonus

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have said they do not expect a revolt by the African champions after their win bonus was slashed by half.

Broke NFF have slashed the win bonus of the Eagles from $10,000 to $5,000 as part of their austerity measures, while some backroom staff were asked to go.

“I don’t see the players revolting. Players do not fix their bonus anywhere in the world; it is the job of the Federation,” said NFF executive committee spokesman Emeka Inyama.

“You would recall that we have been paying bonuses as at when due. It was because of the presidential committee (for the 2010 World Cup) that took the bonus to $10,000. The federation have always paid $5,000 after taking care of flight return tickets, daily allowances and accommodation. The $5,000 is ideal.”

The poor finances of the NFF meant that they could only pay up the win bonus for beating Burkina Faso in the final of the 2013 AFCON in South Africa several weeks late.

The Eagles will regroup on May 16 in Germany in time for a forthcoming hectic schedule which will see them face Mexico in a friendly on May 31 in the United States of America, play two 2014 World Cup qualifiers in Kenya and Namibia and also feature in the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil.

  • NFF warns Eaglets against revenge

    NFF warns Eaglets against revenge

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has warned players of the national Under-17 team, the Golden Eaglets not to think of revenge when they face Ivory Coast’s under-17s in the final of the 2013 African Under-17 Championship today.

The Golden Eaglets lost 0-1 to the Junior Elephants in the preliminaries; their only defeat thus far in the competition and with both sides meeting again in the showpiece game today, there have been whispers in some quarters that the Nigerian side will be looking to exact revenge on their West African neighbours.

The NFF, through its technical committee chairman, Barrister Christopher Green however feels that would not be the right approach.

“They cannot start thinking about revenge. The loss in the group stages was painful but at this age, it’s not just all about winning.

“The players are in the formative stages of their careers so such thoughts will not be going in line with what we want them to achieve.

“Of course, we want the title but the ultimate ambition is to see these boys still playing for the senior national team in years to come,” Green told supersport.com.

Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets have scored an astonishing 17 goals in four matches in the competition.

The Ivorians are the only side yet to concede against the Golden Eaglets.

  • NFF sympathises with Amiesimaka

    NFF sympathises with Amiesimaka

The Nigeria Football Federation declared at the weekend that it sympathised with former player Adokiye Amiesimaka over his ill-disguised and poorly-articulated campaign for disengaged backroom staff and an assistant Coach of the Super Eagles.

Chairman of the Media and Publicity Committee, Emeka Inyama lampooned the ex-footballer for being who he is, “a very idle, thoroughly confused, frustrated and self-important individual who has never seen anything good in any other person or institution.”

Inyama, also Chairman of the Nigeria National League stated that there is no going back on the downsizing, and that discourteous mouthpieces like Amiesimaka were only wasting their time and energy.

“The NFF is being proactive, as we have been told that the funds we got for prosecuting the Cup of Nations in South Africa would be deducted from our annual allocation. Now, we are left with just about N70 million every month. That cannot achieve much (if you are aware that one match of the Super Eagles cost about N120million), and we are only going to be able to fulfil our several obligations by the time we add projected earnings from our sponsors and duly cut our coat according to our cloth.

“We have explained to Nigerians the reason why we are downsizing and we are grateful for their understanding. Amiesimaka is not one of those to whom we owe explanation, because he lacks the moral ground to even speak out on football management.

“This is a man whose record at Sharks FC of Port Harcourt remains despicable. We know those who are qualified to speak on the administration of the game. He is definitely not one of them.”

Inyama insisted that Amiesimaka has even lost touch with his own legal practice.

“Otherwise, he would have known that the Justice Abang case he has been referring to, was struck out, dismissed. He lacks information and should not misinform the public. Adokiye is simply unhappy with the present NFF administration’s achievements. We know how he used to shout to the rooftop that the NSC was illegal until then NSC leadership made him member of delegation to the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2007.”

The former Commissioner for Sports in Abia State snorted at Amiesimaka’s call on the Sports Minister to tackle the NFF, sympathising with the ex-footballer on his ignorance.

“Amiesimaka is, of course, unaware that we carry the Honourable Minister of Sports and Chairman, NSC along in everything we do. Despite our explanation that FIFA will pay the salaries of the National Technical Director and his assistants, Amiesimaka was still rambling at the weekend about how we are going to pay them if we truly have to manage our funds.

“The NFF is in position to determine the size of the backroom and technical staff of the National Teams, not poor campaigners like Adokiye. He cannot even get anyone to listen to him in Port Harcourt, talk less of Rivers State, and much less Nigeria. He should rather concentrate on his failing brothel business.

“The last we will say on this matter is that the Super Eagles crew presently consist of the Head Coach, two assistant Coaches, team secretary, team doctor, physiotherapist, team coordinator and equipment manager, and no more.”
